Not exactly what I'm looking for. Don't want to combine the areas just
eliminate holes (gaps or overlaps) where the areas meet. I've heard ArcMap has
such a utility, though I've never seen or used it.

Are you talking about for area features? You can already do some of this in
v11.xx by selecting areas with the Digitizer Tool and combining them. If
they touch or overlap they should join. Any gaps would be represented as an
island (hole) in the new area. You could then just delete that hole.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Chuck,

If you still have trouble, can you go to the Event Viewer in the Control
Panel under Administration Tools and see what the Application event log says
about this? That would tell me what library specifically is mis-configured
or missing.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm pretty sure I never had both versions in same folder. I know that
currently they are in folders you describe below because my first
thought was they had landed in the same folder, so I checked the
shortcut properties.

I'll uninstall and reinstall. I think I give recreating the problem
(install both 11.00 version, then upgrade them) a try. It will be
Tuesday evening before I'm back at that computer again.

If you use the Search->Search by Attributes rather than the Search by Name
option you can still search by name and then you can right-click on the
selected results and choose to combine them.

Hello Mike,
I have a road with perhaps 1000 short segments that I can search by name and
select all segments.

If I manually select road segments with the digitizer(4 or 5 at a time) I
can right click and get a menu option to "Combine selected line features."
However, if I right click after I've selected all the road segments "by
name" I don't get a "Combine selected line features option". I just get new
feature creation options.

Is there a way to combine line features without manually selecting them? It
would be nice to have all those segments merge themselves automatically.

Thanks,
Hilton

You are experiencing a bug that was briefly in a release on the web site. I
have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip
with this fixed for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the
contents into your existing v11.xx installation folder to give it a try. If
you are using the 64-bit version, there is a new build available at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11_64bit.zip .

Don't know if this will help or not, but GeoSetter will let you tag photos to
waypoints. Something Pro Photo Tools won't do. Also, GPSBabel will generate
waypoints from geotagged photos. And you can enter revised Lat/Lon coordinates
with ExiftoolGui, or GeoSetter.

Thanks for the geotagging suggestions. I've used GPicSync a bit, but wanted to
be able to physically move the files and then update the information. The track
can sometimes be way off, or, as mentioned by someone, I also have scanned
photos and slides that for some reason, don't have a digital time stamp ;), but
I know where they fall. I'm downloading GeoSetter to try. I was able to make
due with Microsoft Pro Photo Tools, which is ok, but there is only a pin icon on
the map, so when you have bunches, it's a real pain to figure out which one is
the one. I'm in a hotel with a painfully slow internet, so I've been typing
this and I'm only at 25%. I'll try it out and give my opinion.

Use a program called GPicSync, if you have a GPX file to work from,
and use RouteConverter to review the track and make corrections to
the track if needed. Both are freeware.

Geosetter has a lot richer set of tools than gpicsync and it gets my vote for
geotagging. I've used geosetter to tag images shot on film without a meaningful
time stamp. However, if you just want to edit exif data. Exiftoolgui has a
nice interface and lets you get at all the data in the photo.

Virgil,

There is not currently any way to update the location information in
Geotagged photos from Global Mapper, although I think there are some free
3rd-party tools to do this. Eventually we will likely add this support to
Global Mapper as well.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike,
Is there anyway to update the location information in geotagged photos? I
have several that are slightly misplaced, and ideally, I would like to be
able to move the camera icons and update the photo metadata.

On a related wish, it would be nice if multiple features selected with the
edit tool would show as selected in the search dialog.

There was briefly a build with this problem, but it has since been fixed. I
have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11.zip
with the fix for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the
contents into your existing v11.xx installation folder to give it a try. If
you are using the 64-bit version, there is a new build available at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper11_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike, i have found some problems when loading dem data in TIF format. Im
trying to load in GM 11.01 severals dem TIF tiles of the new ASTER dem data
only one tile is loaded and i get the message: "Unable to load overlay
ASTGTM_N34W003_dem.tif. Read access violation at data adress 0x000000...,
program adress 0x00.....". When i load just one tile there's no problem. The
problem is when i try to load more than one tile. Ive found too, that if i
have my .mp map loaded first, then i can't load the dem.tif tile, but if i
have the dem .tif loaded first, im able to load the dem.tif

Thanks

Diego,

If you select the polygon with the Digitizer Tool, then right-click and
choose the advanced feature selection option to select all of the points
within the polygon, the total number of points selected should be displayed
on the status bar.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

AL,

Support for internal legend creation is high on our priority list. I expect
it will be in the v11.02 release.

Hi Mike,

I think that is an important matter to take into consideration. GM has come
a long way in making the software much friendly. "LEGEND" is one important
area to pay an attention. I have got answers for many of the things I raised
here. Thanks for that. Even custom build legend like symbols or fill area
could help if enternal legend cannot be built for now.

Thanks.
