Mike,

Can you send me a sample $PRAVE message or $PRAVE specification so we can be
sure we are creating the correct syntax?

Also, will this work with version 12?

THanks,

Garret

Mike,

Is the Raveon specification OK? Will it work with v. 12?

G,

Yes, the "From ID" is used to distinguish the vessels. The "To ID" is not
used.

The Raveon spec for $PRAVE should work fine and yes it will work in v12.

Once you have multiple devices tracking you can manage them with the
GPS->Manage GPS Devices menu command.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

I'm a new user of GM (version 10 for now) and hate to post this issue because
I'm sure I'm doing something stupid but - when trying to display a map all the
projections look like Mercator (or points plotted as lat/lon).

For example I'm using the well known world countries file "world_adm0.shp". The
projection I'd like to use is Winkel-Tripel.
I select the projection in the configure panel but the resulting map looks like
Mercator, not Winkel-Tripel. So what else do I have to do to control the
projection?

Dan,

Which v10 version are you using? When I use Global Mapper v10.02 and display
a world map in Winkel Tripel it doesn't look at all like Mercator.

Thanks,

Thanks for the response, Mike. I am also using the exact same version as you -
v10.02.

Do you have a .prj file that you use in conjunction with the .shp file?

I don't have a PRJ file, I just set the projection to Winkel Tripel on the
Projection tab of the Configuration dialog. Can you send a screenshot of

Hi,

I have got some files with .bin  format. These files contain clutter and height
information for 1 area.I can open them with Global Mapper v13.00. but I need to
get the numerical values that the files contain. How can I find that??

If you check on the status bar as you move your cursor over the data you
should see the numeric data from the current pixel location.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I saw that the value are shown in the status bar. But I
want to get them as a file as I have to work with these data in Matlab.

Mahbub,

You can use the File->Export Elevation Data menu command to export the data to
another supported elevation format. I’m not too sure what Matlab supports for
grids though. You may have to export to a DXF Point elevation file, then load
that back into Global Mapper and use File->Export Vector Data to export that to
a Matlab point file that you should definitely be able to load in Matlab.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Thanks for the reply. I saw that the value are shown in the status bar. But I
want to get them as a file as I have to work with these data in Matlab.

If you check on the status bar as you move your cursor over the data you
should see the numeric data from the current pixel location.

Is there any way to automatically add elevation attributes to Tiger Road Data?
Trying to use NED data and tiger data to get a 3d view of the roads, can't seem

Chuck,

Yes, simply select all of the roads with the Digitizer Tool, then
right-click and select to add elevation values to them. This should add
per-vertex elevations from the NED data to the roads.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Chuck,

Aha, that option wasn't added until the v12 release series. You could either
upgrade (hint, hint) or use File->Export Vector Data menu command and export
to a format like Shapefile or DXF and check to create 3D features to get
elevations added from the terrain and then re-import.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Hi,

Thanks..I have found the data file.I got the file named
"clutterdata_example.mat" by setting the Global Mapper so that it does not shade
or interpolate the input pixel values when displaying the map, taking a screen
capture of the displayed map, pasting it into an image processing program,
saving this as a .bmp file and loading this to matlab. But the values are in
unit8 format. Now I need to match these values with the original values in the
map. You can see the original values in the attached print screen of the map.
How can I do that?

1) In the clutterdata_example.mat, there are 7 different numbers. But there are
9 different numbers in the color bar of the map. So I think 2 different numbers
are not present in the original data. Moving the cursor to check the values
originally available can be one process. Is there any other way to find those 7
different numbers. If that is available, then I think I can match them to the
unit8 data.

2) then I will have another problem of mapping those value with the pixels.

BR,
Mahbub

Could you perhaps load back in the uint8 file into Global Mapper as an image,
then open the Options dialog for the layer and on the Palette tab assign a color
for each value based on what it represents, then export that back out so it is
easier to visualize in Matlab?

Hussain,

You can use File->Export Vector Data to export your data to a CSV file. You
can then load that into Excel.

Thanks,

Hello Hussain,
While MS Excel format is not directly supported by Global Mapper, you could
export to CSV format which can be easily read in by Excel. To do this, you
would go to File>Export Vector Format... to chose CSV from the Export menu.
This will write out a comma delimited file that is natively supported by Excel.
Let me know if I may be of any further assistance.

Hussain,

TIF files are images, not tabular data, so there isn't really any way to
export them so that you can load them into Excel. What are you wanting to do
with the data in Excel?

Hussain,

Are your datasets in the TIFF format though? That is just an image and not
something you can really get into a tabular format. What type of data does
it contain?

Thanks,

Mike
