Hi,

I use the slope shader a lot as it is easier to create "visual texture" in
a background and see the imperfections when I am analysing sea bed
information..

Now when I do it, although I set it on a gray scale, i.e. white at 0 deg
slope and black at 1 deg slope (pending on the terrain the 1 can be 10 15
or etc..) the data background is always blue

Can I change it into an actual grey scale? if I go to custom color and
choose something else, I loose all the tecture again. It would be easier to
explain if I can forward an image. If it is OK to do so, let me know.

It is not that important but the question was raised at the office and I
have been trying to change it albeit with 0deg sucess.

Thanks and Regards,
Yiannis

Hello Yiannis,

Can you check your water display settings on the Vertical Options tab of the
Configuration dialog and make sure that is off?

If you want to send an image use gmsupport@..., or actually I
would suggest using the globalmapperforum.com web site for support as you can
attach images there and it is better organized for support than the Yahoo group
which is quite old.

Thanks,

Mike Childs

is there a way to measure an angle between two lines in GM without doing

Thanks for that.

Mike,

Yes, I use EDIT_VECTOR COMPARE_STR="COLOR=GREEN" for all the green buoys.
I do the he same for red. Same for yellow.
But then I have a number of buoys wich are red and green, green and red,
green white green, etc.. So all kind of combinations.
I would like to assign one LMC_Type for all this kind of combinations.
(Because the number of LMC_Type objects is very limited when exporting to
Lowrance LCM.)

I hope this is clear what I want to do ?

Danny

Hello Danny,

I went ahead and updated the COMPARE_STR attribute to take != as well as = as
now. I have placed a new build at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the change for you to try.
Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v13.xx
installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13 version
there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Hello Saif,

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_elevation_model for a detailed
explanation, but in short a DTM is the bare ground, DSM is the height of the
tallest solid object at any location (i.e. ground with buildings), and a DEM can
be for either, it's just a model of elevation values of any type.

Hello Saif,

See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_elevation_model for a detailed
explanation, but in short a DTM is the bare ground, DSM is the height of the
tallest solid object at any location (i.e. ground with buildings), and a DEM can
be for either, it's just a model of elevation values of any type.

Hello Danny,

I went ahead and updated the COMPARE_STR attribute to take != as well as =
as now. I have placed a new build at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the change for you to
try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing
v13.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13
version there is a new build at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thank you Mike for this quick response, allthough it is weekend now ...

Yes, that is what I would like.

Remember, I have green buoys, red buoys, yellow buoys and all kind of
mixtures.
The only feature to select them is by color.
So I would like 'if color not equal to green, or not equal to red, or not
eaqual to yellow' (so all the rest) to convert them all to one LMC_TYPE.

Hello trytoofish,

How far were you zoomed in on the SID when you chose the control points? If you
were zoomed way out then you might be a bit off from where you were trying to
select. Make sure you are zoomed pretty far in on both images. Also check your
rectification method on the Options menu of the rectification dialog and make
sure it is set to Automatic so the best method will automatically be chosen.

Hello trytoofish,

Yes, if Automatic was selected at least your control points should match up
between the 2? Is the image off at the control points or just somewhere else in
the image? How many control points did you provide and how are they arranged in
the image? Typically you will want 4 or 5 control points. The rectification
should be tied exactly at the control points that you provide. Also what version
of Global Mapper are you using?

Hello Jack,

For a WMS source the result is a raster image from the server. The size will
really depend on the resolution used for the export. If you do a lower
resolution export than the default then the text should be correspondingly
bigger as each pixel is larger in the output. If you do a high resolution output
the text will be a much smaller ground distance, otherwise you would end up with
just a big blob of text for high resolution exports if the text was still a
large portion of the resulting image. So basically try using a lower resolution
for your export. Because the text is rendered on the server based on the
resolution that you choose there isn't any kind of font setting to change the
text. Or of course for a high resolution export you can simply zoom in on the
resulting image to see more detail and make the text larger.

Thanks,

If you were zoomed way out then you might be a bit off from where you were
trying to select. Make sure you are zoomed pretty far in on both images. Also
check your rectification method on the Options menu of the rectification dialog
and make sure it is set to Automatic so the best method will automatically be
chosen.

Hi There,

I have been trying to export elevation data and doing the contours for Aster
GDEM download using GM 12 with unsuccessful attempts. The process stales at ~2%
for the Block Long 23.9 to 27, Lat -10.8 to -13.5. I have tried Arc ASCII and
Geosoft Grid formats, both failed.
Interestingly, I downloaded elevation data and did contouring for adjacent
blocks with no problem at all.

can anyone advise me on this issue?

Thank you and kind regards,
Ida

Hello Ida,

The server that the ASTER GDEM data comes off of is notoriously unreliable, but
you might get better results by moving to a newer v12 build. I have placed a new
build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper12.zip with the change for you
to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing
v12.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v12
version there is a new build at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper12_64bit.zip .

Moving to v13 will almost definitely make things better too if you want to
upgrade.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Thank you Mike,
I have updated GM12 with the new build that you gave and could download the
block, however the results has stripes of missing data and it took me half day
to complete the download. I will put the screen shots on the yahoogroup "File"
folder. I have 512kbps internet connection here but it worked fine with the
other blocks:(

Any other advice?

thanking you
Ida
