Hello Jim,

I reproduced the problem and fixed it. I have placed a new build at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the change for you to try.
Simply download that file and extract the contents into your existing v13.xx
installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the 64-bit v13 version
there is a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .
Note the upload is going slow as I'm on vacation, give it about 10 more minutes
if you get this immediately.

Thanks,

Mike Childs

Yo Mike, For some reason I decided to export an image as a bmp. Just the plain
image is exported fine. But if you turn on grid or vector output, the image gets
flipped over the x-axis. Tested jpg, png, tif and bil and at those are fine.
Just bmp with vectors.

Since GM V13.1 we can see in the vector export formats :

cGPSMapper (PolishMP) file

Are these exactly the same? (Or is one of them Polish MP Lowrance type set

Hello Hilton,

The cGPSMapper and Polish MP options refer to the exact same thing. They are
both listed so that users can find the option no matter how they know the MP
files (i.e. you might be looking for cGPSMapper and not Polish MP or
vice-versa).

Both are for creating custom vector maps for Garmin devices. The KMZ export
option under the GPS menu for Garmin custom maps is for creating custom raster
maps for display on compatible Garmin devices. This is a much simpler process,
but is supported by only a handful of devices and doesn't offer all of the same
functionality as true vector maps.

Thanks, Mike.

You covered Danny's question below, but I don't think you answered mine
regarding the "Garmin Custom Map(Polish MP)" option. Garmin uses the "Custom
Map" term to refer to KMZ rasters. (Others use it to mean vector maps compiled
with cgpsmapper or mkgmap.) If you are using Garmin's definition, the output is
not MP so the menu option is ambiguous.

Hello Hilton,

I can see the source of confusion, so I will rename the 'Garmin Custom Map
(Polish MP)' option to 'Garmin Vector Map (Polish MP)' to hopefully remove most
of the confusion. In addition the option should only be available when you use
the File->Export Vector Data menu command so you will have already selected a
vector export at that point.

Hello Danny,

This is just support for adding an entry to the [IMG ID] section at the top of
the file to specify that Lowrance types are being used rather than Garmin types.
You would add the following line to the header to enable this:

TypeSet=Lowrance

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Hello David,

What you can do is select the line feature, then right-click and select the
Advanced Feature Creation submenu option to resample the line, then specify the
desired spacing. Then right-click again and select the Advanced Feature Creation
submenu option to create separate line features from each segment of the line.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks Mike, but I can't manage to do it in the way you say. If I resample my 63
km line at fixed distance interval, 5 km for instance, what I get is a vertex
each 5 km, beside the already existing ones. So, if I then spilt the line I dont
get 5 km segments.

What Im doing wrong?

Hello david,

Hmmm that is indeed how it would work. I can maybe add an option to remove the
existing vertices and just keep the vertices at the given sample distance, but
then you would lose all of the shape in between the vertex each 5 km. I guess
what you really need is an option to split lines at some fixed distance, so each
line would be 5km in length, but could have vertices in between. Would that
work?

Thanks,

Thanks Mike, but I can't manage to do it in the way you say. If I resample my 63
km line at fixed distance interval, 5 km for instance, what I get is a vertex
each 5 km, beside the already existing ones. So, if I then spilt the line I dont
get 5 km segments.

What Im doing wrong?

Yes Mike, what I would like to do is to split a line a fixed distance (except
the last segment maybe, obviousl) maintaining the original shape, that is,
keeping the original vertices and adding some other if necesary.

Thanks a lot

David,

I have completed updating the existing Resample option to now allow splitting
the selected line(s) into new segments at the resample distance so you can
easily create the new line segments of the specified length. I have placed a new
build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13.zip with the latest changes
for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the contents into your
existing v13.xx installation folder to give it a try. If you are using the
64-bit v13 version there is a new build at
http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper13_64bit.zip .

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Thanks Mike, it works fine, but now it seems to be some kind of problem with
show/hide line vertices when the line is selected in digitizer. Now, vertices
seem to be always visible and there's no way to hide them when the line is
selected in digitizer.

Hello david,

There is an option (now enabled by default) on the Vector Display tab of the
Configuration dialog to always show the vertices of selected features. Just
uncheck that to not show the vertices of selected features.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Thanks Mike, it works fine, but now it seems to be some kind of problem with
show/hide line vertices when the line is selected in digitizer. Now, vertices
seem to be always visible and there's no way to hide them when the line is
selected in digitizer.

Hi all

I'm working on a project in Cooper Creek, Australia. I have a channel
longitudinal profile that I want to match to bank geomorphology. (If I can do
this in GM, I will have a georeferenced profile to match to my georeferenced
image - which is why I'm not just generating a profile from Excel depth:distance
graph.)

The channel profile is a series of spot depths of x,y,z points. I would like to
use vertical shading to display high and low areas. I was also hoping to use the
3D Path tool to generate the profile as a line.

I've loaded the points in OK, and the software is recognising that the points
have an elevation attribute. However, the points are mostly a single line - not
in an array that can be gridded. I can't see a way to either colour the points
for depth, or draw a profile. I've tried making the pointss "elevation shaded"
in the Configuration - Point Styles menu, but all I get is litle black dots

Any comments welcome!

with thanks

Hello Gresley,

What you want to do is right-click on the layer in the Control Center and select
to create an elevation grid from the data. This will triangulate and grid the
points giving you a terrain surface that you can then use for things like path
profile generation and for having a colored terrain surface.

Hello Kim,

I just tested it and it worked fine for me, at least for the Robinson

Yes, that's what I've done. See attached screen grabs. I'm using the Natural

I don't know much about editing the registry but there is also the ability

Hi Mike thanks - but that's exactly the problem. I don't think I want to grid
them. Because the data are in a single line, gridding them makes a spurious
surface, as the grid tries to tie in bits of channel that are unrelated to each
other. I will upload a couple of screen grabs to the photos section of this
forum, the first is the points in a sinuous line which is the channel, the other
is the grid it makes.

Also, although gridding them makes it possible to use the profile tool, the
gridding interpolations between points makes some unlikely-looking surfaces.

So can I get the elevation attributes of each point represented as a shader
colour? Maybe GM doesn't deal with spot heights.

Do the point soundings represent a stream centerline or are they just a
trackline of soundings going back and forth across the stream (i.e. the stream
is about as wide as your images)?

Hello Gresley,

If you just want to color the points by elevation what you could do is go to the
Point Styles tab of the Options dialog for the layer and setup attribute-based
styling on the elevation attribute, then use the custom dot style types with a
given color and size and a value set to the elevations you want to set the
colors at. If the interpolation option is checked you should get a smooth
transition of colors between the elevation values.

For the gridding, you could also use the tightness threshold slider to only
generate the grid actually near the sample locations, so you don't get a big
grid in places far from actual point samples.

Hello Kim,

The wrapping of the projections only applies to raster maps, vector data will
not be replicated as each vertex of the vector data will just get mapped to a
single location, whereas for raster data the render process checks for each
point on the screen to see what the corresponding point in the raster is and
gets the color from that, so if multiple points on the screen map to the same
location in the map you can replicate the raster. To get a wrap from that type
of data you would have to export to a raster format, then bring that back in.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.
