Hi,

there are two different 7-parameter datum transformation methods: the
position vector transformation (EPSG:9606, used e.g. by PROJ.4) and
the coordinate frame rotation (EPSG:9607). These methods differ by the
sign of the rotation parameters. Which one is used when I specify a
custom transformation method in Global Mapper?

Also: What are the transformation parameters used by Global Mapper for
the "Potsdam/DHDN (Germany)" datum?

Kone,

I would suggest visiting http://topex.ucsd.edu/WWW_html/srtm30_plus.html
where you can download 30 arc second world-wide terrain data, including a
tile with covering the area you are after. For higher resolution data (i.e.
90 m/3 arc second SRTM), try http://srtm.csi.cgiar.org/.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Since I'm not about to drop a grand for the SDK, I wrote a shell
script that sends all the appropriate mouse clicks. It works, and
there's some other things I can do with the technology.

On the "Palette" tab in the "Options" dialog accessible via the
control panel there is a "Save palette file" button. Is it that what

Chuck,

Could you post a link to a sample script, or put a copy in the Files
section, so we can see how it works?

I'd like to be able to standardize layer settings (on or off) and
boolean searches with scripts, and Mike says that won't be part of the
standard scripting language until another release.

Thanks,

Hilton

An error on saving the workspace is as follows:

"The following errors were encountered saving the workspace:

ERROR: Unexpected error embedding overlay data.

ERROR: Unexpected error embedding overlay data."

I suspect this relates to two layers of generated contours which are
present since the last save. Any ideas?

I'm not entirely clear what you are after, but you can use the Digitizer
Tool to draw new features (like houses, trees, etc.) over loaded layers.
Those features can then be saved out just like any other loaded vector data
set.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Kone,

I would suggest visiting http://topex. ucsd.edu/ WWW_html/ srtm30_plus. html
where you can download 30 arc second world-wide terrain data, including a
tile with covering the area you are after. For higher resolution data (i.e.
90 m/3 arc second SRTM), try http://srtm. csi.cgiar. org/.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Hi,

there are two different 7-parameter datum transformation methods: the
position vector transformation (EPSG:9606, used e.g. by PROJ.4) and
the coordinate frame rotation (EPSG:9607). These methods differ by the
sign of the rotation parameters. Which one is used when I specify a
custom transformation method in Global Mapper?

Also: What are the transformation parameters used by Global Mapper for
the "Potsdam/DHDN (Germany)" datum?

Kone,

If you can get your data from the GPS into a format that Global Mapper
supports (most likely GPX), then you can simply load your satellite imagery,
then the GPX file to have the GPX overlay the imagery. You can export the
combined result to a new raster file (if you want) using the commands under
the File->Export Raster and Elevation Data menu. Make sure to check the
option to include vector data on the output to have the rendered vector map
data saved on the new file.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Kone,

I'm not entirely clear what you are after, but you can use the Digitizer
Tool to draw new features (like houses, trees, etc.) over loaded layers.
Those features can then be saved out just like any other loaded vector data
set.

Hi,

when I try to export a workspace containing online ECW data ("Open ECW
file from the Web") to a raster file (GeoTIFF, PNG, JPEG, no matter
what) Global Mapper 9.02 becomes unresponsive for a very long time.
Until now I didn't have the patience to wait more than half an hour so
I can't even tell whether the operation would be completed
successfully in the end. (I can see that there is network traffic,
though.)

This also happens when I set the sample spacing on export to values
that would result in rather small files. E.g. I can reproduce the
problem by loading the "esg_world_color" ECW and then exporting it
with a sample spacing of 2 arc degrees (should result in a 180x90
pixel file).

Loading the online ECW data just for displaying works fine.

Christian,

The problem is that exports from ECW files always access data from the most
detailed layer of the ECW file. So even if you are subsampling the data,
whenever a pixel is requested it is still coming from a tile in the most
detailed layer of the file. For much faster subsampling I would suggest
using the File->Capture Screen to Image menu command as it will just do a
render and save that. The renders will come from the more appropriate
detailed layer of the ECW file.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Sometimes the crop is just plan wrong (for example, on chart 18744-1)

And sometimes I get "unable to setup collar bounds" (for example, on chart

The same thing happens on both the TIF and KAP files. I downloaded the charts

Chuck,

The automatic collar cropping is designed to work for USGS DRG and Canadian
topo maps. It will not work in general for all collared maps. In the cases
that it does not work you will have to use one of the other collar cropping
options and manually specify the collar boundaries.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I just tried this in v9.02 and it seemed to work fine for me. You do need to
make sure that you have the rectification projection set to Geographic with
units of Arc Degrees for parsing of coordinates in a lat/lon format like
that to work.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Since it was a marine chart I was with the mercator projection instead
of Geographic. (why isn't possible to have planar units lat-lon with
this projection ? )

It auto-detected the format : degree°minute'second" so it fix it
automatically. (expect for degree beginning by zero )

Any way, I set to Geographic now and it's working perfectly !

Thanks a lot Mike

OK, I think I can modify my automated mouse clicks stuff. Paste the

I have now updated the image rectification coordinate input to select
formatted lat/lon values even if the selected projection is not Geographic.
I have placed a new build at http://www.globalmapper.com/global_mapper9.zip
with the change for you to try. Simply download that file and extract the
contents into your existing v9.xx installation folder to give it a try.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Thanks,

Mike

Since it was a marine chart I was with the mercator projection instead
of Geographic. (why isn't possible to have planar units lat-lon with
this projection ? )

It auto-detected the format : degree°minute'second" so it fix it
automatically. (expect for degree beginning by zero )

Any way, I set to Geographic now and it's working perfectly !

Thanks a lot Mike
