What is new


Windows 7
New operating system asks for few adjustments...
Also, new desktop wallpaper position styles (Fit and Fill) are now
supported.


Dashboard
You can put an application on a specific screen page, or show it on all
pages. Now you can also put it "nowhere" - on the Dashboard. Dashboard is a
special place for hosting frequently used small applications, ones that
could be used on any screen page, while not cluttering the desktop when not
needed.


Window identification rules
Rules become more complicated. Now you can also specify that a certain word
should NOT be present in the window title, or two or more words should be
present at the same time. In other words, rules now have logical AND, OR and
NOT modifiers.


Page description.
Screen pages have names, now they also have descriptions. This is relatively
long, multi-line text that is shown on the desktop. It could be a reminder,
an instruction, or whatever you want it to be.


Page transition effects.
Now when selecting Random effect, you can also specify a subset of effects
to choose from.


Keyboard hot keys
When you set up a hot key, goScreen now reports unavailable  ones, so you do
not waste time trying different combinations.


New command "Hide Shell"
It hides or shows desktop icons and the taskbar. It is fun.

What is new:


Page Selector
In goScreen, there are several ways of finding an application window on a
particular screen page: Uncover, Expose, Look through, Lower/Raise. Finding a
screen page was more difficult, or required more brain power. With Page
Selector, you can now find a screen page that "looks like something you
remember", rather than "assigned to a task you remember".


Page transition effects
There was a rudimentary page transition effect in version 5.5; now there is a
list of them. It is fun.


Faster desktop wallpaper change
It is easy to notice that, when you set a custom screen page wallpaper in
goScreen v5.6, it converts the source picture into Windows Bitmap format. It
speeds up the wallpaper change, sometimes considerably.


New set of rules: "Exclude"
There are numerous utilities that enhance the operating system, goScreen is one
of them. It can make sense to treat their windows as part of the OS, that is,
ignore them completely - same way as goScreen ignores, for example, Taskbar or
Program Manager. "Exclude" rules do just that.


New command: "Stay Here All"
Normally, when you switch screen pages, goScreen applies page assignment rules
to the applications on the page that you are about to leave and may relocate
some windows to other screen pages. Sometimes, this is not what you want; you
would rather keep all windows where they are. To ignore assignment rules
temporarily, you can now use this new command.

Disaster recovery.
In rare cases when goScreen hangs up, it is now possible to kill it as process
in Task Manager and then immediately restart. All "lost" hidden application
windows will be made visible.

I have updated the release. Now it is version 5.5.0.233

The fix has to do with the fact that goscreen v5.5.0.232 does not "see"
64bits processes.
If you use goscreen on a 64 bits operating system, please upgrade your
installation.
On a 32 bits OS you will see no difference.

This is a minor update.

It fixes handling of Vista Sidebar windows.
The problem with the previous release was that when doing Uncover or Expose,
the Vista Sidebar windows were moved around as well. This is corrected now.

1. Expose
There was "Uncover" command in goScreen for some time already. At last, I
have made
my own implementation of "famous" Expose. Hope, you will like it.

2. UMPC scroll bar
This thing makes a lot of sense on 7" screen of modern ultra mobile
computers.
If an application window does not fit into such screen, goScreen now creates
a scroll bar that can be used to move such a window.

3. Possibility to set different background pictures for portrait and
landscape screen orientations.

4. Improved support of multiple monitor systems. goScreen 5.4 is much more
smart in recognizing changing monitor setup.

5. You can now invoke any goScreen command from a command line. This means
you can use scripts, or program programmable keyboard or hardware buttons.

6. Switching between screen pages became much faster.

This update fixes handling of    Adobe Creative Suite 3 windows.

Also, in v5.3.5 there was a minor redrawing problem of goscreen tooltips on
Vista - when using Aero Basic theme.
The problem is fixed in this build.

The release features numerous Ultra-Mobile PC-oriented usability
improvements.
For example
- all list can now be scrolled by "finger push",
- multiple selection behavior of list in Run dialog has changed,
- context menu can now be opened by simple left click on a "non-button area"
- Window map got a "size grip", which makes resizing it much more
"finger-friendly"

Note, you do not need touch screen to use them.
Everything works fine with a mouse, and even on Windows 95.

The most visible part of the new version is a number of new options in
configuring the visual appearance of goScreen, including the possibility to
"export" and "import" the appearance settings.
If you feel like playing with colors and fonts, I would appreciate if you
send me your configuration setting and screen shots, so I could publish them
on goScreen web site.

There are new options in defining application window management rules.
"Handle as main" set of rules complements application windows management:
By default, application windows that have entry in the task bar are shown on
one screen page, and can be shown on all screen pages by defining "keep
visible" rule.
By default, application windows that do not have entry in the task bar are
shown on all screen pages; these can now be shown on one screen page by
defining "handle as main" rule.

It is now possibile to define "default applications" for each screen page
(Page properties dialog box -- Default Applications pane), and start them
all using a single command.

What is new:

Enhanced user interface:
  - redesigned item selection mechanism in Window map;
  - possibility of scrolling the contents of Window map screen page buttons;
  - "stable" position of application window icons in Window map: in a sense
that this behavior now depends on "sort page menus" property
(goScreen properties dialog box -- General pane)

The maximum number of screen pages is increased to 80.

Several fixes in application windows handling, and stability related
improvements.
