We had one blown up just this past Saturday night or Sunday near Battle Creek
Michigan. I saw it on the news but I can not find anything on the net about it.
Here is the GC site GC1FYM4

It is a sad state that we are in where our govt. weather blow things up first
then worry about asking questions. What's next cops going to start shooting
anyone who is not acting like the status quo then worry about if they were up to
something. It seems to me such a waste of the system. Like terrorists are
going to put small bombs in all these little po dunk towns. For gods sake 9/11
is long gone. Our govt needs to stop being such paranoid trigger happy
warmongers looking for the next thing to shoot or blow up. What's next no more
toy guns, no cowboy and Indian games for the kids, darn lets just start burning
books next, and how about get rid of telephones and internet so all the innocent
citizens cant communicate to plant these dangerous geocaches around the world.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I think it is sadder yet that we have people in the geocache community who
use such poor judgement in placing caches. Regardless of how ignorant any of
us believe our government may be, unless some of our geocache brethern begin
to use a little common sense in cache placement, the authorities will begin
cracking down on the geocache community. I propose we allow common sense to
prevail before someone begins restricting us.

To late we are already being restricted...........

No caches in National Parks, a lot of other place you need to fill out an
application and get approval first.

It just seems like everything we do that is free has become restricted,
regulated, and have a fee attached to it.

I am into offroading and camping in addition to geocaching, they kindof go hand
in hand. It seems to me that every where I turn the government has gotten more
and more restrictive.

*Sigh*, I'm a rule guy. You tell me the rules, and I'll follow them. Problem
is, I don't always pull my head out and look around. I have to agree with
you, there does seem to be a lot of restrictions on stuff.

"Recently in Boulder, CO and Santa Cruz, CA , law enforcement officials were
called out to investigate what bystanders suspected was a bomb.

Last summer, a road was shut down in Ottawa, Canada when a pipe with dangling
wires hanging out was discovered under a bridge. Four dozen policemen, the
hazmat team and bomb experts were called out to investigate what turned out to
be a geocache container. The cache owner thought his cache idea was funny. The
law enforcement officials were not amused."

From what I can tell, this "bomb under the bridge" is an appalling example of a
thoughtless cacher making the sport look bad.
You can't blame the police in this instance.

The Oregon 400t has great geocaching capability built in along with Garmin's
geocaching download service. However, if you wouldn't be using it in the car,
the Colorado 400t might be better as it has a wheel instead of a touch screen.

I'm not sure which version of the Oregon I've used. I own a Colorado, but have
used a couple Oregon's while teaching people about the Wherigo cache type.
In my opinion, the Colorado has a slight edge on the Oregon performance/accuracy
wise. On the other hand, data entry in the field is MUCH simpler on the Oregon
(OR-Touch screen, CO-Spin the wheel, click the center button, repeat.......) The
CO screen is easier to read in bright sunlight, and the OR seems to have a
slight issue with the wherigo player, some cartridges that run just fine on the
CO & emulator crash the OR.
The paperless caching features on both are just awesome.

Please educate the masses about this wonderful sport called geocaching.
It never ceases to amaze me that people are still so paranoid to think
that an object like the one used in this geocache could be harmful to
them. Jeez!!!

When I place a cache I want to identify it with a symbol or a sticker to
identify it as a geocache and where to find out(ie the Website) of course I
didn't start this until my 3rd cache hidden, but stickers are made for a reason.
Right? perhaps if more stickers or id tags are on our caches, as opposed to
inside, bomb squads may not have to be called so often. Not forgetting common
sense in hiding them too.

Dear Gonzalo,
It is so nice to hear from a cacher in another country. It is wonderful that
you are promoting geocaching in Spain! This is a fun and worldwide activity, and
I have enjoyed finding caches in Europe myself.
Good luck to you, and best wishes!

"A creepy cache has prompted Dakota County to institute new rules for high-tech
treasure hunting in its parks. ... And, in a perfect world, prevent a repeat of
a May incident in which a group of teenage boys stumbled across a full-size
coffin-shaped cache in Lebanon Hills Regional Park. Emergency personnel
responded and the Dakota County Sheriff's Office confiscated the homemade wooden
coffin, which contained a plastic skeleton."

Global Positioning Stash HuntOh, my gosh! This is just after the story a couple
of weeks ago about a man who sprained his ankle caching and had to be taken out
by a rescue team.
This is so sad. This is the first caching death I have heard of.
People really need to be careful out there.
Kristin
