The Gridbus Project to Release the Gridbus Toolkit 2004
==============================================================================

The Gridbus Project at the University of Melbourne, Australia is pleased to
release "open source" Gridbus Toollkit containing middleware technologies that
support the creation and deployment of eScience and eBusiness applications on
Global Grids.

The fundamental Grid technologies developed by the Gridbus Project include: a
visual Grid application development environment and XML-based language for rapid
creation of distributed Data Grid applications, competitive economy-based Data
Grid scheduler, Web services-based Grid market directory (GMD) for registration,
publication, and discovery of GSPs (Grid service providers) and their
application services, Grid accounting services, tools for creation of dynamic
and interactive testbed portals, a portal for management of Grid applications
execution, and a widely used toolkit for modelling and simulation of enterprise
and global Grids. The Project has also developed a Windows/.NET-based desktop
grid software and Grid job Web services to support the integration of both
Windows and Unix-class resources for Grid computing.

The key components of the Gridbus Toolkit include:

-- Visual Parametric Modeller
-- Global Grid Service Broker
-- .NET-based Enterprise Grid System (Alchemi)
-- Grid Work flow Engine
-- Grid Market Directory
-- Grid Bank - Grid Accounting Services Infrastructure
-- Gridscape - a tool for building interacting Grid testbed portals
-- G-Monitor - Grid application portal
-- ExcelGrid - Excel Spreadsheet processing on Enterprise and Global Grids
-- GridSim - Grid Simulation Toolkit

Descriptions of each of the components and more information can be found
at the respective project pages at http://www.gridbus.org/ .

Some Gridbus Toolkit Users:

The Gridbus Middleware has been used in Grid-Enabling the following
eScience/eBusiness Applications:

-- Belle High Energy Physics (School of Physics, UoM).
-- Portfolio Analysis (Technical University of Madrid, Spain).
-- Natural Language Processing (Language Technology Group, UoM).
-- Brain Activity Analysis (Osaka University, Japan).
-- Molecular Docking for Drug Discovery (WEHI and CSIRO).
-- Basic Local Alignment Search Tool.
-- Medical Imaging (Howard Florey Institute, UoM).
-- Astronomy (Melbourne Uni - School of Physics).
-- Natural Resource Modelling (CSIRO, Australia).
-- Bioinformatics Applications (Senac, Brazil)
-- Private Grid Initiative (The Netherlands, http://www.private-grid.nl/).
