The 2nd Australian Grid Computing Workshop (AusGrid 2003)
2 October 2003, Royal Pines
Resort, Gold Coast, Australia
http://www.ausgrid.org/ausgrid2003/

Organised by:
The Australian Grid Forum - http://www.ausgrid.org/

In Conjunction with:

APAC'03: The APAC Conference and Exhibition on Advanced Computing, Grid
Applications and
eResearch

Call for Participation

Purpose
*******

Interest in Grid computing in Australia and internationally is rapidly growing,
driven
by real-world applications of increasing scale and complexity. The Australian
Grid Forum
has initiated a Grid computing workshop series to encourage presentation and
discussion
of grid computing efforts in Australia. The first workshop, held in Melbourne in
2002,
was very successful, with over 20 presentations and 50 participants.

The 2nd Australian Grid Workshop aims to promote collaboration and the exchange
of ideas
about the future of grid computing in Australia, by providing an open forum for
presentation and discussion of grid projects, applications and opportunities.

The workshop will also promote the development of Australian academic grid
testbeds that
facilitate sharing of resources for technology research and development.

Scope
*****

We invite you to talk about how you see grid computing used in your research
area, now
and in the future, statewise, nationally, and internationally. Brief informal
presentations that stimulate discussion are encouraged.

Topics of interest for presentations and discussion include:

* Grid projects and applications - existing or planned.
* Grid computing tools and middleware research projects - reports and
demonstrations.
* Grid testbeds - experiences with building and using testbeds.
* Data Grids - applications, middleware and grid infrastructure.
* Collaboration using the Grid and Access Grids.

Agenda
******

The workshop will consist of short (10-20 minutes) presentations, longer group
discussions and panel sessions on topics of particular interest, and
demonstrations of
grid applications.

Panel sessions will include:

* National research-oriented grid testbed: progress report; planning the
next steps.
* Access Grids: who is using them, where, how, what for, budget,
progress, plans for
the future.
* APAC grid infrastructure: what it should look like; what are the main
applications/project drivers in Australia,
what is the technology (hardware and software) needed to support these.

Submission of Presentation Proposals
************************************

Please submit your proposal for presentation to Rajkumar Buyya by email
(raj@...) on or before Aug. 25, 2003.

The proposal should consist of presentation title, authors, speaker, and an
abstract
(max 500 words).

Workshop Committee
******************

* Bill Applebe, Victorian Partnership for Advanced Computing (VPAC)
* Rajkumar Buyya, University of Melbourne
* Paul Coddington , University of Adelaide
* Andrew Wendelborn, University of Adelaide

Australian Grid Forum Meeting
******************************

This workshop also serves as the second annual meeting of the Australian Grid
Forum. The
forum's steering committee meeting will also be held in conjunction with the
workshop.
This provides an opportunity for all participants to influence activities of the
forum.
