Dear All,

As we are approaching the year end, I just wanted to share some updates on
Grid Computing:

-------------------
1. 4th International Workshop on Grid Computing (Grid2003) was held
in Phoenix, Arizona, 17 November 2003. It attracted close to 400 participants.
The
Proceedings of Grid 2003 has been published by IEEE Computer Society Press.

The Grid 2004 workshop will be held in Pittsburgh, USA. I will send more on
this later.

2. Our "Global Data-Intensive Grid Collaboration" demos at SC 2003 went
well. Please browse http://gridbus.cs.mu.oz.au/sc2003/ for complete details
on what we have done as part of this collaboration.

3. The next Global Grid Forum (GGF10) meeting is scheduled ot be held in
Berlin Germany, 9-12 March 2004. For more info see - http://www.ggf.org/

4. I recently gave a tutorial on Service Oriented Grid Computing
at CLUSTER 2003 conference in Hong Kong. The slides of my talk can be downloaded
from
http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/~raj/tut/gridbus.zip

5. I finally wanted to share info on our new exploration on applying
idea of utility computing to email communications. For more info,
please browse our concept paper, entitled:
GridEmail: A Case for Economically Regulated Internet-based
Interpersonal Communications
It abstract is enclosed below. The full paper can be downloaded from:
http://www.cs.mu.oz.au/~raj/papers/gridemail.pdf
It will be great to hear your comments on it.
-------------------

As I will be traveling to India and Singapore from Dec.15-Jan5, I would like
to wish you all in advance:
"A Happy Christmas and Prosperous New Year"

BTW, of any of you are going to be in Hyderabad (Dec.15-20), Caculta
(Dec.27-30),
Bangalore (Jan 1-3), Singapore (4-6), please let me know. We will be able to
meet in
person.

Cheers
Raj

Email has emerged as a dominant form of electronic communication between
people. Spam is a major problem for email users, with estimates of up to 56% of
email falling into that category. Control of Spam is being attempted with
technical and legislative methods. In this paper we look at email and spam from
a supply-demand perspective. We propose Gridemail, an email system based on an
economy of communicating parties, where participants? motivations are
represented as pricing policies and profiles. This system is expected to help
people regulate their personal communications to suit their conditions, and
help in removing unwanted messages.
