Hi Brenda,
I'm sorry I couldn't make the meeting too. I would be
willing to join the advisory (well - excited to
actually, just very busy) if there is a need for more
bodies. I would only be able to make evening meetings,
however.
I also need to cut a cheque for $600 for the GWFC from
Hatching Change.
Let me know if I can help,

Hi GWFC--sorry most of you couldn't make the meeting last night--we were
swimming in leftovers!
I need to confirm involvement for the advisory committee for the Community
Food Mapping project.
Please RSVP with your commitment (some of you already have, thank you). The
project covers 12 weeks and we would probably meet every other week with the
successful applicant (project coordinator).
The advisory committee will:
1) work to develop two key initiatives from the mapping results.
2) develop strategy on how to disseminate results.
3) oversee work provide feedback to the project coordinator.
4) work on visioning for the future--other funding sources etc...
Thanks!
Brenda on behalf of GWFC
I'll be there!

We thank all applicants but only those short-listed will be contacted.
To update you on what the funding committee (Paula, Chaya, Angela before she moved to Toronto, Brenda & I) has been up to - we've put in 3 funding proposals so far, one to the City, that wasn't successful, one to the SMART fund which unofficially has been successful but we need to get the official word, which should happen any da y now, and one to the United Way that we'll hear back about this month. yay!
We'll be getting $15,000 from the SMART fund to do the mapping initiative as phase 1 of a project re. mapping, follow up on key initiatives etc. but it has to be spent by the end of March, which means we have to move fast.
-Here's the SMART proposal, FYI.
<<Budget rework for SMART - Devon's changes.xls>> <<SMART- workplan modified questions - draft 2.doc>> <<SMART chart - problem solving.doc>> Basically, we need to form a hiring cttee ASAP so that we can hire a part-time coordinator for the mapping project ASAP. The hiring cttee would need to do up a job description & a job posting; figure out how we're going to advertise; decide on a closing date; figure out interview questions; & do the interviews. I've emailed Paula Carr from Collingwood Neighbourhood House, and she's agreed to send us their job description etc. for their food security coordinator, so we can use that as a starting place for ours.
I think we'll need 1 meeting before christmas so that we can get the job posting out as soon as we officially hear word from the SMART fund.
Who would be interested in meeting about this?
Also, here are 3 potential meeting times for next week as a starting point (but if these don't work & you're interested in being involved, please send around other options that would work for you.
Tues Dec 20th - 9-10:30 am Wed Dec 21st - 10:30am - noon Thurs Dec 22nd - 1-2:30 pm

Hi Devon,
Here are the descriptions as discussed. The posting may be slightly off because in the end we combined 2 positions -our breakfast learning institute and the food security institute positions which are now both reflected in the description we are sending you. Hope that is clear, if not please let me know.We also have a contractor working with us on food security that lives in Grandview Woodlands that may be interested in the position. Her name is Heidi Braun and email is braun_heidi@... Good luck!!! Paula

Hey folks,
To update you on what the funding committee (Paula, Chaya, Angela before she
moved to Toronto, Brenda & I) has been up to - we've put in 3 funding proposals
so far, one to the City, that wasn't successful, one to the SMART fund which
unofficially has been successful but we need to get the official word, which
should happen any day now, and one to the United Way that we'll hear back about
this month. yay!
We'll be getting $15,000 from the SMART fund to do the mapping initiative as
phase 1 of a project re. mapping, follow up on key initiatives etc. but it has
to be spent by the end of March, which means we have to move fast.
-Here's the SMART proposal, FYI.
<<Budget rework for SMART - Devon's changes.xls>> <<SMART- workplan modified
questions - draft 2.doc>> <<SMART chart - problem solving.doc>>
Basically, we need to form a hiring cttee ASAP so that we can hire a part-time
coordinator for the mapping project ASAP. The hiring cttee would need to do up
a job description & a job posting; figure out how we're going to advertise;
decide on a closing date; figure out interview questions; & do the interviews.
I've emailed Paula Carr from Collingwood Neighbourhood House, and she's agreed
to send us their job description etc. for their food security coordinator, so we
can use that as a starting place for ours.
I think we'll need 1 meeting before christmas so that we can get the job posting
out as soon as we officially hear word from the SMART fund.
Who would be interested in meeting about this?
Also, here are 3 potential meeting times for next week as a starting point (but
if these don't work & you're interested in being involved, please send around
other options that would work for you.
Tues Dec 20th - 9-10:30 am

Mt.Lehman, B.C. – Sunday
7 August 2005,
noon to 4:00pm
Summer
Lunch and Green Cuisine Competition
Culinary teams from Vancouver's 'C'
Restaurant, Gramercy Grill, Raincity Grill, Tomato Fresh Food Cafe,
Terminal City Club (2003 champion),
Aphrodite's Organic Cafe and The Seasonal Experience from
Langley will be sharpening their
knives, digging deep for inspiration and lacing up their running shoes
in
an attempt to best the 2004
defending team from the Vancouver Club. The winners take home very
stylish
Green Cuisine chefs' hats and cargo
aprons donated by Blackwood Career Apparel, a bountiful basket of
farm produce and a gift from
Barbara Jo's Books to Cooks. Following tradition, last years' champs
are
hosting this year's event under the
enthusiastic leadership of Chef David Besto
Veteran shareholder and farm fan Jo
Willson invites you to, "Eat a gourmet lunch surrounded by birds, trees
and happy people havng the time of
their lives!"
Each team brings along basic items such as stock, seasonings and one
secret ingredient. With the help of a
guest, selected by raffle, the
entrants harvest fruit and veggies from John and Alyson's lower fields
and race
up the hill to prepare four unique
plates in the remaining hour. The winner is decided by judges, (guests
selected by raffle), who taste and
score the creations under the tutelage of Chef Besto.
Prior to the contest, there is a "fresh-as-it-gets" buffet lunch of
wild salmon, barbecued organic chicken
wings from Thomas Reid Farm, local
organic vegetables, salads, sushi and other surprise morsels
(including lots of vegetarian
options) prepared ahead of time in the kitchens of the contestants. And
to top
it all off, the much-adored dark
chocolate-dipped raspberry popsicles.
In the opinion of Terminal City Club 's Chef David Long "This is a
really fantastic event because it brings
everyone involved in the food chain
together from the public to the farmers to the cooks and the chefs.
It's
not only educational fun, but
honestly delicious."
All proceeds go to help Glen Valley
Organic Farm Co-op and Fraser Common Farm Co-op secure land for
organic farming and further their
local food security initiatives.

International /Eat In Act Out/ Week.
Initially launched by the non-profit organization,
/The Food Project/
(www.thefoodproject.org
<http://www.thefoodproject.org/>), /Eat In Act
Out/ Week is a series of events happening worldwide to
promote local,
healthy food and communities...a week to celebrate our
local economies,
our rural communities, and recognize the magnificent
work of our local
farmers and food producers- globally.
/Eat In Act Out/ refers to using local food, cooking
food yourself
instead of eating fast food or take out, and taking
action to
positively
change our food system. Through /Eat In Act Out/ Week,
The Food Project
hopes to:
1) Encourage everyone in our communities to eat
locally and think
critically about their food choices
2) Build a sustainable food system where everyone has
access to
affordable healthy food
3) Highlight the capabilities and importance of youth
in this movement
4) Engage youth in positive forms of social activism
5) Strengthen its connections, and build the movement
by working
together on an international event
**Here’s a perfect, low-maintenance, fun, social event
for community
garden associations, neighbourhood associations,
co-operatives,
non-profits, families, and citizens across BC*****
*August 1^st -7^th ,* organisations across BC will
encourage their
members to fill-up their basket with fresh, local
ingredients, cook a
tasty meal, and bring friends, family, and neighbours
to their
favourite
park, farm, or community garden for a
socially-responsible
picnic...imagine town wide, citywide picnic
celebrations of our urban,
sub-urban, and rural food-producing communities-
across the province of
BC.
And, watch-out for the *green ribbons*! At markets in
Vancouver,
Victoria, Kamloops, Penticton, Prince George, and
Abbotsford, teams of
dynamic volunteers will be distributing green ribbons
for people to
wear
August 1^st -7^th , to catalyse province-wide
conversation about the
importance of eating locally and supporting our local
growers.
Please, spread the word!

Hey Paula,
thanks for being involved and keeping the Food
Connection breathing. I have a bunch of minutes, but
they're all hard copies, except for the one week that
I did the minutes. I'll dig up those ones to forward
to you, but how can I get you the hard copies?
How's your summer been? I'm really adjusting and
getting into my place at the Farm, actually living out
here as caretaker for the next two weeks. I'm still
interested in arranging to have your students out to
the farm, and organizing a Fruit Tree project in the
fall. Let's chat.
be well,
