Singapore Youth Science Festival 2002 - Island-wide Crow Survey
Crow Count on Sunday 2 June 2002 (9.00 am & 11.00 am)

The Island-wide Crow Survey is a mass participation event to estimate
the crow population and distribution in Singapore. The survey will
provide an educational and scientific experience to the public as
well as potentially offer useful information to the scientific
community, urban planners and relevant authorities.

Each observer will conduct two point counts on Sunday, 2 June 2002,
each lasting five minutes beginning at 9am and 11am.

A point count means standing at one location, counting all crows
around you within a 50m radius. The 9am and 11am location can be
different.

Participants must submit their data via the Internet. To provide
Useful data, print out the data submission form, and record your
counts and observations. They would include numbers, location,
time period, weather condition and behaviour.

To stand a chance to win attractive lucky draw prizes, submit a
short paragraph (about 250 words) on a feasible method or
approach to crow management in Singapore.

Please refer to the web page for complete details:

As part of Nature Day 2002, the Nature Society (Singapore) launched
‘unofficial and informal campaign’ for Singaporeans to vote for a
national bird.

Choose between 'the imperial yellow colour oriole, the huge, beautiful
and majestic sea eagle, the elegant drongo, the tiny red dot of a
crimson sunbird and the olive-backed sunbird, a nesting family bird.'

You can vote online via Margaret Perry’s article in The Straits
Times, 27 May 2002
