Recently, I noticed a new
logo in nature circles. A heron silhouetted
against a mangrove tree.
Before the screening of Secret Worlds episode
2 on Channel I, we saw the
new video bearing familiar faces of Buloh
staff and volunteers ? no
longer with the accented pronunciation of
‘kang-kong’. Finally, weblinks
to pages in Sungei Buloh Nature Park
were generating errors.
An email to some friends revealed
that a low key event, conducted on
Earth Day, 20th April 2002,
unveiled this:
“Following the announcement
by Minister Mah Bow Tan, on the
gazettement of Sungei Buloh,
the reserve is given a new lease of life.
As of 20 April 2002, we are pleased to present ...
Our new name: To better reflect
Sungei Buloh's status as a nature
reserve, it was named Sungei
Buloh Wetland Reserve.
Our new branding: The mangrove
tree is the most visible and permanent
part of the mangrove landscape.
It represents the health of the
mangrove ecosystem. The heron
in flight highlights the unique selling
point of Sungei Buloh, the
birds. It also represents Sungei Buloh's
importance on the international
conservation scene.
Our new website address: Sungei
Buloh's website has moved to a new
domain at <http://www.sbwr.org.sg>
In addition, catch our new
video, "Where Mangroves and Wetland Wildlife
Thrive" the next time you
visit the wetland reserve!

---> [2] Talk on Monitor
Lizards of Buloh this Sunday 2 Jun
--------------------------------------------------------------------
SMA Rashid, a PhD student
from NTU, is giving a public talk titled
"Water Monitors of Sungei
Buloh Wetland Reserve". He has been
conducting field research
at the park for some years now, and you
might have seen him featured
on Secret Worlds and one of the
Channel News Asia documentaries
this year.
This talk will keep away from
scientific jargon and is suitable for
the general public. He will
discuss water monitors and share with
you some of his results of
research on the lizards in the Reserve.
Venue: Theaterette, Sungei
Buloh Wetland Reserve
Date: Sunday 2nd June, 2002
Time: 1200 - 1300
To get there, you can take
TIBS No. 925 from Kranji MRT, same side
as the train station. It
travels to the park on Sundays and Public
Holidays.
