http://www.spca.org.sg/-------------------------------------------------------------------
In 2002, 10,839 animals were taken in by the SPCA.
Small animals made up approximately 14 per cent of this figure, including 972 rabbits and 464 hamsters. The number of animals adopted from the SPCA in 2002 was 1,003.
Source: “Unwanted Animals.” SPCA Bulletin, Jan-Feb 2003: 12-13.
There is a growing trend to abandon animals be they unwanted litters,
outgrown pets, mongrels or purebreds - thousands are discarded each year
when the novelty wears off - victims of a throw-away society.
In February 2002 animals brought in to the SPCA numbered 235 dogs, 401 cats,
72 rabbits, 56 hamsters and 2 guinea pigs. .

'Singaporeans take pride living in a world-renown city called "The Garden
City". And this is more than an image. It is a national effort that has
helped the country attract investors, tourists and enhance Singaporeans'
living environment over more than the last 30 decades.
On The Green Trail aims to introduce some key aspects of Singapore's eco
system in depth; From the maintenance of the shoreline of Singapore's
reclaimed beach to the conservation of the island's only hill, Bukit Timah
Hill. From how the oldest tree species in Singapore survived to how species
of birds flock to the island.
Each episode will engage relevant experts to offer insights into the
subjects while minimal narration will be used to support the visuals in a
lyrical style.'

-------------------------------------------------------------------
TRAFFIC is the joint wildlife trade monitoring programme of WWF-World Wide
Fund For Nature and IUCN-The World Conservation Union. The TRAFFIC Network
works in co-operation with the Secretariat of the Convention on
International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES),
and collaborates with a wide range of other partners, including the IUCN
SSC-Species Survival Commission, many governments and other organisations.
Now in its 19th year, the TRAFFIC Bulletin is the only journal devoted
exclusively to wildlife trade issues worldwide. It provides news on the
trade in wildlife resources, the latest in related legislation,
investigations and seizures, and original reports.
