-------------------------------------------------------------------Those of you familiar with Ria Tan will know her voracious output for
images, information and webpages. She has moved from print to web to Chek
Jawa and now has consolidated and expanded the information at her new pet
project at Wild Singapore (http://www.wildsingapore.com).
It is now largely a companion website to the soon to be launched Chek Jawa
guidebook, and hosts hundreds of photos and fuller details on all aspects of
Chek Jawa that could not be squeezed into the guidebook. Features include
updates on new discoveries, an Ask-a-Guide section, the latest information
for visitors to Chek Jawa, and links to internet resources on Chek Jawa and
intertidal ecosystems.
Features in other sites, though much shorter, is a useful guide to nature
sites in Singapore!

“Burma rediscovers vanished bird"
By Alex Kirby BBC News Online, 3 June, 2003 environment correspondent
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/science/nature/2950892.stm
Bird-lovers are celebrating the rediscovery in Burma of a bird last seen
there almost 90 years ago. The bird is the Gurney's pitta, a strikingly
coloured species described as "teetering on the brink of extinction".
The only other known survivors are about 30 birds living in a small part of
southern Thailand. The species is listed by IUCN-The World Conservation
Union as critically endangered, the highest category of conservation
concern.
