Tonight, 26 June 2003, Mediacorp TV12 Arts Central, 9.30pm
Yandi takes a look at Chek Jawa today, amongst other things in Nature at Our Doorstep. In the nine part magazine show, resident biologist Yandi explores
green spots to view Singapore's natural heritage and checks out some outdoor
action. Other sections feature interviews with nature and environment
peronalities, green products for the informed consumer and host Nigel Marvin
introducing another aspect of nature in Singapore.
--- adapted from TV12’s webpage synopsis.
I watched part of last week’s episode and enjoyed watching an enthusiastic
Yandi and the interesting interview with NSS President Geh Min. There are
about five short takes on different aspects in each episode so it is easy to
enjoy. You can safely recommend this to your friends who are clueless about
the nature/environment scene as it promises to be a good introduction.

---> [3] Adrian's encounter with the Malayan Colugo at Lower Peirce,
Wed 24 June 2003
“Walking towards the carpark of Lower Pierce Reservoir Park, I was near a phone booth at about 6 pm when someone excitedly pointed to a tree, saying
"flying fox!!". He said it had glided from a tree and it after a long while,
I finally made out the outline of the creature. It was the Malayan Colugo!
Fascinated, I edged closer, and soon was a metre from the tree trunk, a Sea
Apple (Syzygium grandis). The creature was clinging on to the trunk about
five metres above the ground, and thus a mere three metres away from me! It
was between 50-70 cm long and 40 cm wide.
It struck me then that it looked so much like a mousedeer except that it was
covered with a nice orange red coat (patagium). Eventually, it turned its
head 180 degrees and looked directly into my eyes. It waited awhile and then
bound up the tree. A most captivating experience and a pleasant surprise for
the day!”
