Thanks to Lee Chuen Ling for the alert.

"Have any of you ever experienced the ironic feeling of organising a
conservation meeting and then serving food on styrofoam plates? Anyway, I
came across a company in Singapore that produces biodegradable utensils from
rice husks. If I'm not wrong Victoria Sec School is already using those in
their canteen. You can check out the company at http://www.karmicware.com/

Ria called up. right now they just do bulk orders for companies and schools,
the managing director hopes to have products in supermarkets in a few
months.

Soon we will actually have a choice so do ask your caterers  about
biodegradable alternatives!"

By Loh Tse-Lynn, Fri, 8 Aug 2003

This was first reported some month ago, and it is fascinating to hear about this!
