Windows "midi mapper" often fails for me too, I have to options to choose from. "midi mapper" and "micrsoft GS wavetable synth." When "midi mapper" fails, just try changing to the second option (if available)

This has solved this very problem for me on multiple occasions.

Javier thanks for the suggestion, I am totally confused. I followed your
suggestions and found the SW Synth NOT muted and the mapper correctly set. I
basically gave up.

In the course of the day I had to shut the computer down when I booted up again
NO change.

This morning when I turned the computer on the Harping-MIDI worked perfect!!! I
don't have any idea why but it is up and working and I am glad as I have quite a
few MIDI I ma working on learning.

Thanks

Ben

Hi Ben,
Most of the times this happens because the sw synth in windows mixer is muted,
go to the windows mixer (double click in the volume icon) and check that the sw
synth is not muted. If this doesn't work check the MIDI Out device under the
options, normally MIDI mapper should be fine unless some other application
changed it, try changing the option there.
hope it helps,
Javier.

In the harping mixer there are play and display check boxes for each track.  The only way that I can shut off all of the sound using the program is by unchecking the boxes.  I don't see how that could be your problem but you could check it.

I have been using the free version of the MIDI player several months with out any problems. Last night I used it, tonight when I went to use it I can not hear anything!!! The colored MIDI bar parts all come up on the screen and as it is played they change colors like usual but NO sound.

I know that my audio card is good because I can play other song using Windows Media Player and other players such as VLC media player but I hear nouthing using the MIDI Player???

I am sure something somehow got toggled off My computer used Realtek HD audio manger I check there and everything appears to be turn on as I said I can use other player playing non MIDI files perfectly fine.

I uninstalled MIDI player and re installed it and it still does not work!!

Anyone have any suggestions where I should start??

Please be kind and speak english, not computer geek, I am no computer expert.

Thanks

Ben

From what I can make out, you can load as many customs as you want, but you can
only load one at a time. So it is like, you load one, then you can load another
but this new one will "overright" the one you just added.

Hey, you are close but not quite there. Here is how it should be:

;
; Seydel Zirkular/Circular2
; Zirkular C
;
CHROMATIC
NAME Hering blues 48

BLOW_SLIDE_IN  G# C# C# F G# C# F  G# C#  F  G#  C#
BLOW_SLIDE_OUT  G  C  C  E A  C  E  G  C   E  G   C
DRAW_SLIDE_OUT  A  B  D  G B  D  F  A  B   D  F   A
DRAW_SLIDE_IN  A# C D# G# A# D# F# A# C   D# F#  A#

Just copy and paste that into note pad, hit save, type filename.tun

Then vwalar.

Hope this helps, dan

OK, so for anyone that is like me, the solution is rather simple, make yourself
a tun file and then change the 5 blow to the same note as the next one ;) my
solution works on the standard tuning.

;
; Seydel Zirkular/Circular2
; Zirkular  C
;
CHROMATIC
NAME 12 hole Custom setup (std 48)

BLOW_SLIDE_IN  C#  F  Ab  C#  F  F  Ab  C#  F  F  Ab  C#
BLOW_SLIDE_OUT  C  E  G  C  E  E  G  C  E  E  G  C
DRAW_SLIDE_IN  Eb  F#  Bb  C  Eb  F#  Bb  C  Eb  F#  Bb  D
DRAW_SLIDE_OUT  D  F  A  B  D  F  A  B  D  F  A  B

in the normal tuning you would find on blow slide in there are 2 C# instead of 2
F and 2 C instead of 2 E. By defualt the program works on the "higher" numbered
note so by changing it to the same as the following note, you basically render
it unused.

Hey Dan,
Interesting idea, maybe I can add the option to the program so it picks the
other holes by default, anyway your custom fiule does not work because for the
chromatic it's slightly different, you have to specify the notes for the slide
in and out, for example:

;
; Demo Chromatic Tuning Layout
;
CHROMATIC
NAME Bebop Tuning AS12.3f

BLOW_SLIDE_IN  C#  E#  G#  B   C#  E#  G#  B   C#  E#  G#  B
BLOW_SLIDE_OUT C   E   G   Bb  C   E   G   Bb  C   E   G   Bb
DRAW_SLIDE_OUT D   F   A   B   D   F   A   B   D   F   A   B
DRAW_SLIDE_IN  D#  F#  A#  B#  D#  F#  A#  B#  D#  F#  A#  B#

hope it helps,
Javier.

Hey, I recently tried to make a tun file for a chromatic harp, but it doesnt
work. I made it with the same layout as a diatonic tun file.

;
; Seydel Zirkular/Circular2
; Zirkular  C
;
CHROMATIC
NAME 12 hole seydel circular (std 48)

BLOW  C  E  G  C  E  E  G  C  E  E  G  C
DRAW  D  F  A  B  D  F  A  B  D  F  A  B

The reason I am working on this is because I tend to use 4 blow and 8 blow
instead of using 5 and 9 and just for simplicity I am making the tun file to
display 4 and 8 instead of 5 and 9.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

--- Javier that is the problem!!

I did not see it really addressed in the tutorial either he just said down load
MIDI files from web sites.

If I could get the MIDI on the desk top (or some other folder ) I am sure I
could get it in the program.

  If I go to a web site that has a down load button I can click on it and get it
saved on my computer and I can get it in the program no problem, But if it does
not have that down load button is it possible to still down load that MIDI filt
to my desktop??

That IS the problem, and I don't understand how to do it.

I am sure this is a trivial thing for most of you but not for me.

The MIDI files on this Yahoo Web site do not have a down load button so how do I
get them from Yahoo to My desktop is the question.

Thanks

Ben
