Re: [hdtivo] Re: Series II with "lifetime" service: tuner or brick?
This question probably has the same answer, but is there any "hack" that allows you to load something akin to MythTV that would actually run on these boxes and get guide data over the internet? I know the processor is completely different, but for those of us who own these boxes and would like to create something for our relatives with standard cableTV, it would be great to use the HR10-250. I'm assuming that there is no way to make that work, but I thought I would ask the collective minds in this group first.
Thanks, kvchief

Jim:
I continue to use my HR10-250's with my DirecTV service.
However, in conjunction with my rooftop Wineguard Gull-Wing UHF
antenna, they continue to receive and record all my local (LA) HD and
digital channels, and all of the DirecTV HD channels in the 70's.
Once MPEG-2 is turned off, and the channels in the 70's disappear, I
will consider them the same as my old standard definition TiVos with
the added feature that they will continue to receive and record local
HD and digital channels.
In this light, I have turned off two old Hughes receivers that I used
in the guest bedroom and replaced them with these units. One of them
is connected to a Standard Definition television and set to 480i
output. So the HD channels are viewed in "letterboxed" format.

That's a good point, Geoff, about Jim's series 2 TIVO. Only the the HR10-250, the HD DTIVO, can get OTA in the manner to which Mike had referred. I've got two...
