NAMES AND AIMS
The African Health Informatics Association “Health Informatics in Africa” (HELINA) shall be constituted as a non-profit organization concerned with the theory and practice of Informatics and technology within Health Care and Biomedical Science in an African context.
1. The basic objective of the organization is:
The African Health Informatics Association (HELINA) shall play a pivotal role in the transformation of the African countries health system and makes measurable contributions to the improvement of health of the continent through continued development and implementation of health information technology.

2. The specific objectives are:
2.1 To promote informatics in health care and biomedical research in Africa to advance international co-operation and dissemination of information;

2.2 to move informatics from theory into practice in a full range of settings, from physician's office to acute and long term care;

2.3 to promote high standards in the application of work in this field;
2.4 to support research and development of traditional medicine;
2.5 to encourage high standards in education and curriculum development in Health Informatics;
2.6 to function as the autonomous African Region of the International Medical Informatics Association (IMIA).
