I think it's like the display of dates in Thunderbird: if it's today,
only the time is displayed; if it's older, the date is also displayed.
So if you see a post on ProZ that doesn't include the year, you can
safely assume it's 2009. If it's older than that, the year will be included.

Cheers, Dominique

Herb, thanks. I use the Win key for special characters, using my super-duper
Keyboard Layout Manager (www.klm32.com), the best keyboard layout program there
is on earth, not to say universe :-), so it is not a good key for me.

And I think I would like Ctrl+V to be my plain text paste.

You say that the macro is assigned to Alt+0, but it looks like it is Ctrl+0.

Hello Hans,
I assigned it to control+zero because it has no formatting, so I could remember it :-)

My main problem with macros is I can't always remember which combination does what in which program!

Then, you should consider the "Better Paste" AutoHotKey script, which
does just that (and works in every Windows application in which you can
paste text). It's kind of easy to remember Ctrl+V pastes ;-)

Hi Dominique,

Is a script the only way or is there a registry setting? In my case,
it's Office 2003

I don't know if it's the only way, but it's one way and it doesn't
interact with the registry: everything is in the script (whether you
load the .ahk via AutoHotKey or the compiled .exe). When/if you exit
from the script/the .exe, everything is exactly as it was before you
loaded it. Just like with IntelliWebSearch (which is a compiled
AutoHotKey script), in case you know it.

Your version of Office doesn't matter: it will work with all of them.

Btw, you can still have paste as formatted ("paste as you know it") when
the script is loaded (and has taken control over Ctrl+V): just press
Ctrl+Shift+V.

Cheers, Dominique

Hello Hans,

I expect so, I recorded this macro as is, and didn't edit it, only to add my comments.
The option for this one is "PlainText".

Hello Hans,

Thank you, but actually I live in the Netherlands!

I thought I'd look into the Macro thing a little more for you.
When you're in the macro editor you can right click with the mouse for more options.

Here are some links from the MVP Dian Chapman - guru in the Word-MS group I am a member of, you might find some useful tips there.

As many of you know, with Word 2000 compare in tables, in each cell, the entire
text is replaced with the new text.

Is this still true in Word 2007, or does compare work there as it does with
non-table text?

Regards,

Hans L

Hi. I received a very long glossary from a client in PDF. I can save the PDF to
txt, it appears as two columns. I have tried reading this into Excel, using
Fixed Width. The result is pretty good - one column for each language - but
there are some rows which are empty, some which contain just a page number in
English, and others where the end of a long paraphrase jumps to the next row in
the same column, leaving a blank cell for the other language. My aim is to get
the whole thing accurately into CSV and then into my software's TB. (MemoQ as it
happens).Does anyone out there know a simple trick? I am hopeless with Excell, a
real black hole.

Yes, after using it in its free version for a while, I've finally bought it.
I think it's at least a great timesaver, and sometimes a lifesaver, for us
Excel-impaired people.
