I don't think it's really necessary to sign an invoice. I used to do it
when I made them in Word, but as long as it has all your contact
information on it, I don't see the point (unless it's required by law in
your country).

I never sign mine yet I always get paid :-)

I have Bitfax software and an Agfa SnapScan scanner.  The Bitfax receives
faxes fine - all I have to do is open the Receive Manager in the program.
I also fax things straight out of MSWord.  As for signing and faxing, I can
scan the sheet and select Bitfax as the location my document will go to.  It
then opens Bitfax, asks me to select the phone number, scans and faxes the
document in one operation.

Well, as far as I am aware, faxed signatures are not legally binding
anyway, so why not scan in your signature and insert it into whatever
document needs signing before faxing it off - that's what I do.

It's easy if you have the document in electronic form. If not, it
is a little more cumbersome and you have to scan it in first...

Try http://www.j2.com - I think they offer a free service option.
My ISP also provides such a service (although you would be allocated
a Munich fax number) - see http://www.gmx.net. I can't remember whether
it's a free service or whether it's only available to GMX Pro customers
(at approx. 30 Euros per annum well worth the money anyway :-)

tif is a standard graphics format, although not all graphics software
can handle the multi-page tif files which are produced by the fax conversion
service if the fax contains more than one page.

I find the simplest method for reading those tif files is the standard
"Imaging" program that usually comes with Windows. If it's not in your
Accessories menu, search your Windows directory for KODAKIMG.EXE

I have used for years the successive versions of Delrina Fax (now version
10), which is compatible with Word and linked with a basic OCR system I have
replaced with TextBridge 9 that deciphers most languages. It all functions
very well.

frustrated. I have now Finereader and i am very happy with it.

As for a fax machine - why bother? All the material people send me by fax
(which fortunately isn't all that much) goes to a free electronic fax
to e-mail conversion service, from where it is sent on to my as a tif

I remember getting such things in two instances:
- Mail attachments from some (older?) versions of M$ Outlook
- From people behind proxies

In some cases I was able to fix it by opening the files in Notepad,
checking what the file should originally have been and changing to the
correct file extension.

Well, I did update the description while I was writing my answer to you. I
see it is not there and I did clear my cache. I have also noticed that
accessing the groups pages at Yahoo is very, very slow these days.

I agree. Subscribers will have better chances of getting answers to their
questions if the subject line helps others determine what your message is

It would also be helpful to provide as much information as possible in your
initial message because it can be very difficult to help with a problem
without knowing about your equipment, operating system, environment,
language, etc.

BTW, I forgot to do so initially, but I have set the list to discard all
attachments. If you need to send a file or picture to describe your problem,
you would need to upload it to the Files section of the site and then tell

in my computer?

Incompatibility between Windoze versions??? Mine is in English, hers is in
Italian, so Windows ain't talk to Finestre?

Whenever she sends me a zipped file, it doesn't open because it is
corrupted. An word file??? Requires Oriental characters... She sent me a
disk with the same files and they worked. Forget Excel. We have tried them
all.

Thanks to Veronica Lambert.  No more replies please, my problem is solved.

Many thanks to Judy Ann of Translab Translation Team.  I  have Windows 98 and
installed German version and can now get the Euro symbol by typing Alt Gr  +
e.  To prove it, here it is € .  Recht herzlichen Dank für ihre Hilfe.

I don't know if it will work for you, but I have to type Alt Gr (is it
called that in English?? The key to the right of the space bar) + E.

Depending on the age of your system  (win95) you must install a Font
with the Eurosymbol.
If you have W98 in the German Version of W98 just type Alt Gr + E.

Dear fellows,
	 In MS Office 97 CD, there's a template with several macros, one of which
is meant to import and export Auto Replace entries, one of the features I
use the most.
	 I tried to export my Auto Replace entries with it to an RTF document and
everything seems to work fine. However, when I try to import it back, Word
says that the document is not the correct format. I've also tried saving it
in DOC format or re-importing the very same document without changing
absolutely anything in it. Nope. It really looks like the macro simply
doesn't work.
	 Can anybody give me any feedback on that?

I think this list is a great idea. And sorry for the cross-posting, but
given the urgency, I'm willing to try anything.

I'll help get the ball rolling with what has become a near crisis, since I
can barely use Word at this point:

I just reinstalled my OS and Office 2000. Everything was humming along just
fine (for a total of two days) until a little while ago. Every time I try
to do something as mundane as save a file, I get a message saying
"Microsoft Visual Basic. Sub or Function not Defined" (my translation). The
Help "Assistant" typically, and cryptically, gives pages and pages of
instructions about how to fix this problem. All of them well beyond my
technical capabilities.

I already tried 1) Word's self-repair function, 2) a complete reinstall of
Office. But the problem continues.

If it makes any difference, the problem arose after I used Deja Vu's
"reimport two-column" function. (In fact, one of the reasons I reinstalled
my OS and Word was because my Word macros were damaged and wouldn't let DV
import my Word files).

Any help appreciated,

May as well be the first to ask a question.

Is anyone else using a Targus mobile port replicator with a notebook
computer. The drivers supplied by Targus on diskette won't work with Windows
2000, even though there is a separate Win2000 folder on their diskette. I
searched the Web and could not find any drivers for this unit.

The main driver I want is for the serial port so I can attach my cell phone
to use it as a modem. Everything else is all set, but my Toshiba 2800 has no
serial port. Everybody tells me this will work, but it won't work without
drivers.
