I'm one of the moderators of this Yahoo! Group, and in my opinion
this is spam, because it has nothing specific to do with Robert's
attempt to get employment. But I looked at the site, and it has a lot
of good answers to various practical and theoretical questions, and
Robert is interested in getting a Java job, so I think Robert can make
good use of this site, maybe. I'm going to let this spam stand in place
until Robert and I can work out a better place to put this link, or
we decide to just keep it here.

It's in the links section, and in the Subject field of this message.
As of today I now have a way for you to alert me immediately
if I'm online. Just log into my Web-alert system at that URL.
See the "Contact me" link there.

I've been doing some volunteer work lately.
Does anybody want to know what I've been doing?
Does anybody want to know anything about my life, as it were?

As of Nov.06, Robert now knows how to produce HTML pages suitable
for mini-Web browsers (WAP = Wireless Access Protocol) in cellphones
such as his Nokis 3595.
As of Nov.07, Robert now knows how to produce CGI applications
for likewise.
See the URL in the Subject for a simple example of the former
with a link to a simple example of the latter. (With a regular
Web browser, this is a meaningless exercise, but if you have a
cellphone with a mini Web browser, or know somebody with one,
please try it now.)

I think that I have no chance to ever earn a decent living again. I'm
also ailing in a variety of ways. I suffer from depresson,
ostpirouious (severe aches in hip-bone joints) and am slowly loosing
my sight. The county hospital would put me on an end of the line
Triage, and I would have to wait for hours and hours in that waiting
room surounded by sick Mexicans. Soon, I will hit bottem. The only
hope for me is to somehow garner the inititive to pack up and leave
town to start a new life in Las Vegas. But the reletives whom hate me
will be estatic to see me leave here.

More than a year ago I taught myself how to write WebServer/CGI
applications, and wrote a demo to show my ability to others,
in the hope somebody might hire me to write WebServer applications
for them. So far nobody has offered any such work. Does anybody
in this club-now-group know any such work available, any companies
hiring for such work, or any rich individual willing to hire me
to do some quick WebServer applications?

I can do lots of things, but nobody has offered
to pay me<br>money to do any of them for several
years. I have done my<br>best to make a good resume, by
several different approaches,<br>so I now have more than
a dozen resumes, and not one of them<br>has gotten
me even one interview for several years. I
don't<br>know what you mean by a "portfolio", please explain.
I'm<br>over 40 years old. Kids right out of college don't
suffer<br>age discrimination as I do. I've already tried more
than a<br>hundred agencies, including temp regular
recruiter etc., and<br>not one of them has EVER gotten me
even one interview, even<br>several years ago when I
got a few interviews on my own via<br>directly
applying for advertised jobs. I would gladly
take<br>anything offered, but nothing whatsoever has been offered
to<br>me for years. I have tried to apply for entry-level
jos, but<br>all the entry-level jobs require at least
one year<br>experience getting paid for something I
have never done even<br>for a day. I would gladly take
an entry-level job if anyone<br>would offer me one.
Do you know any current entry-level openings<br>that
I would qualify for in this area (near
Sunnyvale/MtnView,CA)?

Find a job? I can not belive there is NOTHING you
can do. You are not going to get hired to do<br>Web
Design with out a portfolio AND a good resume.<br><br>Do
you have those? How old are you? Kids right<br>out of
college are snapping up the web design jobs. The way the
job market is going, with every other dot.com going
belly up .. maybe you should look else where for a
job.<br><br>Go to a temp agency. Get a job doing
ANYTHING.<br>Get a job a burger king selling BK broilers and fries
.. at least you will HAVE A JOB!!!<br><br>You have
been out of the job market too long. You should take
what every you are offered. People who have not been
out of the job market for 10 years will be hired over
you. So you need to start from the ground up all over
again. Entry level. At you age .. it is a sorry place to
be ..<br>but have to accept reality.
