Mark Perry found, in Windows XP, at least, and with our network
cards, you must disable recieve- and transmit checksum offload in
the network card (NIC). Alas, I've never worked with W2K, so I'm
not certain of the exact mechanics, but navigate to the options for
your NIC, hit the Advanced tab and disable those options, reboot and
try again. Good luck!

PS: Mark helped me get past this problem, but I still have the
problem that I can't get to the guest from the outside world and
vice versa, though all is well within my LAN.
