You've hit the nail on the head. No names, no pack drill, can't say
any more, but according to a well-known IBMer I spoke to a year ago,
that is precisely the case.

Having said that, that doesn't at all square with what other people
have heard from IBM.

In fact, I seem to recall that current releases of Solaris are/were
available for hobbyist use for a nominal ($10 or thereabouts) charge.
Certainly this was the case 4-5 years ago, I bought one!

David, I don't think IBM is happy about us using VM/370 or MVS3.8J, but there is very little they can do about it. I am sure they find it very embarassing that...
