Does the recent "release" of IBM patents (see
http://www.ibm.com/ibm/licensing/patents/pledgedpatents.pdf)
go any way to resolving the IP issues surrounding Hercules?
I know that Jay feels bound not to investigate patent issues, but I
wonder if anyone with more legal training or in a different
jurisdiction has any views.

The patents are apparently not released with regard to Hercules. Hercules is distributed under the 'Q' license, but in order for IBM's release to be effective...

Oops, should have gone one page further. The Qt license listed at opensource.org is the Q license....
