OK, this forum is moribund, but I think it is the proper one to ask
this. Over on the "main" hercules forum, someone is asking for a
listing of IBM copyrighted material. If he has a license, I think he
should have the code himself. I feel that this sort of post should
result in a "rebuke" of the poster.
In a similar vein, I've noticed a lot of posts on the "main" forum
which are OS specific (i.e. not about Hercules/390 itself). Shouldn't
those type of posts be considered "off topic" and "rebuked"? I don't
mean the "you don't have a license, so ..." type responses. I mean a
"this is the wrong forum for that question. This forum is only for
questions or problems with Hercules/390 itself, not an OS running on
it." Now, I will grant that there is a bit of a grey area here in that
a problem may be due to a bug in Hercules/390 (like with the
compression stuff recently). But some is obviously NOT related to
Hercules/390 but appears, to me, to be due to someone with
insufficient training. I'm not saying they should ask question or want
to learn. I'm all for that. But they should be encourged to use the
proper forum. After all, we do have a VM and MVS forum.
Oh, well, I don't plan to do anything about "off topic" posts. So I
guess that I'm just venting a bit. I don't respond to them, unless I
specifically know that the problem is with Hercules/390 and how to fix
it. And sometimes not even then.
