I am very pleased to finally announce the release of version 3.1 of
my CTCI-W32 networking package for Hercules, known perhaps more
commonly as 'TunTap32':

Main CTCI-W32 web page:
http://www.softdevlabs.com/ctci-w32

Direct download URLs:
http://www.softdevlabs.com/Hercules/CTCI-W32_3.1.0_bin.zip
http://www.softdevlabs.com/Hercules/CTCI-W32_3.1.0_src.zip

What's New:
http://www.softdevlabs.com/Hercules/ctci-w32-new.html

The "What's New" web page contains very detailed technical
descriptions of exactly what has changed. Perhaps TOO technical for
most people perhaps (since most of it deals with programming issues).
For the rest of you non-technical (non-programmer) types, here's what
basically has changed from a pure user's perspective:

WHAT'S NEW

* CTCI-W32 now works with the latest 3.1 version of WinPCap.

* You should no longer need 'IP Forwarding' enabled if you
use a router. (If you don't use one though then you'll
still need to keep it enabled of course.)

* I've been told that multicasting now works just fine, but that
may be only be true for 'tap' (LCS) devices and not for 'tun'
(CTCI) devices.

* You no longer need to keep Checksum Offloading disabled.

* The 'TT32Test' testing utility has been greatly enhanced.
I neither have a help file for it nor am I going to bother
explaining how it works either (sorry!) because hopefully
it should still be fairly intuitive. (It's NOT REALLY that
complicated of a program to begin with!)

* As with my other products, 'FishLib.dll' is needed in order
to use it. Please see the HercGUI web page for information
on FishLib and the download URL.

INSTALLING

Unzip it into a directory of your choosing and either:

a) Copying the DLLs from your unzip directory
into one where Windows can find it (e.g.
%SystemRoot%\system32)

-or-

b) Add the CTCI-W32 directory Windows' search path.

(Same goes for the FishLib.dll too)

USING

The binary distribution includes "Debug" and "UNICODE" builds of each
component in addition to the normal Release" build. All you need is
the Release build. The Debug builds are there for troubleshooting
purposes. The UNICODE builds are identical functionally to the
non-UNICODE ones, but may not be in the future.

That's pretty much it I guess. <shrug>

Enjoy. :)

Oh yeah..

<rant>
PLEASE DO *NOT* SEND *ME* EMAIL IF YOU HAVE ANY PROBLEMS WITH IT!! If
you have any problems with it, please send your email TO THE
HERCULES-390 GROUP instead and I will help you with it there. Due to
the volume of mail I receive I am no longer able to provide personal
help with your problems. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE ask the GROUP for
help. I *do* monitor the group (I read it almost[1] every day) so I
*will* it. I just many not have the time to help you with it right
away. Thus, for your own benefit and the benefit of the entire
community as well, PLEASE post you questions to Hercules-390 ONLY. If
you send it directly to me I may not have time to help you whereas
more than likely someone in the will. Neither I nor the other
developers are responsible for helping EVERYONE who asks for help. We
*all* are. We're a community. A team. We ALL help EACH OTHER the best
we can. If one person is busy there are always others available
(usually) who can help you. Please don't expect one overworked
developer to help you *personally* with your problem. It's
unrealistic and unfair not only to me but to yourself[2] and the
community at large as well.
</rant>

(it had to be said)

[1] I admit that when I get really busy I may go several days to a
week or more without reading any email but it's fairly unusual. In
any case there are over 5100 members at
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hercules-390/ whereas there's only one
at fish@.... The chances of your question being answered are
5100 times greater when asked on hercules-390 than by asking me
directly. 'Nuff said. :)

[2] You'll get much faster response for whatever problem you're
having by asking a GROUP of people for help rather than asking a
single person (who, due to prior commitments, may not have time to
help you). Do yourself a favor and ask THE GROUP for help and not me
personally. Thanks for understanding.
