I did at first, from some other groups I'm a member of. They led to
blank pages, but I wouldn't be surprised if something like spybots
were installed as a result. All open groups have been hit like this,
so it's not just us.
I administer a group of my own, and I found it's not an onerous burden
to set the group to full Moderate, as long as the traffic level is not
humungous. Have notifications sent to your e-mail of applications and
submitted messages. You don't even have to particularly read them;
the spammers have typical approaches. The gibberish handles, e.g.
xtpmwkcjts@..., are the ones to ban, while the "Check this out"
or "New pictures here" messages with a link should force a delete and
a member expulsion. The moderator tools in the group controls allow
you to do mass or global decisions, based on what you want for each
particular. You should check at least every other day, and you can be
done in 5 minutes.
