Android is certainly at an earlier stage than iPhone. I have an Android
phone, but not many others do. I think there are several key
differentiators from the iPhone at present:
1) ability to run apps in background
2) digital compass
3) better google map support in applications
4) ability to scan barcodes
5) general openness
of course these may all change in time. Android may be stuck as a
developers curiosity for the time-being, but I'm not so interested in
waiting for Apple to add the things that Android already has, and so I'm
very much enjoying developing with them.
Google has deep pockets - it will be interesting to see how long they
will subsidize their platform. It's difficult to imagine at present
that Android will ever be in as wide spread use as iPhone, but then
again who knows ...
Anyhow, I hope we can have meetings where we look at both platforms, and
perhaps others, e.g. RIM, Nokia etc.
