It is a universally known fact, that there is growing religious intolerance in India. There are also increasing atrocities on Minorities especially on Muslims, Christians and Sikhs by activists of fundamentalist organisations.

Christians observed the 50th year of Indian Independence by undergoing 58 incidents of violations on them. The incidents varied from attacking and killing the priests, raping the nuns, demolition of churches, disrupting the prayer meetings, occupying the Christian cemetery or Christian Institutions' lands, burning the places of worship, attacking the Christian households, etc.

Muslim's places of worship were demolished; properties were looted; people were killed. The peak of all these is the genocide carried out by the fascist forces in Gujarat wherein more than 2000 Muslims were murdered in a gruesome manner.

Though these types of incidents have been taking place occasionally in the first 40 years of Independence and more often in the next 10 years, till recently, these incidents didn't make much difference in the life of the common people in other areas. People of different religions continued living as brothers and sisters. But now the communalist organisations are propagating their ideas throughout the nation; making efforts to start branches all over the country and enrolling the unemployed and unsure youth into these Organisations as cadres. The youths are constantly fed with notions of superiority and hatred, exhorted to fight 'the other' and `outside' people.

Hence there is an urgent need to create awareness among the youth and prevent them from falling prey to these culture's vultures.
