I believe these identifications come from a fringe theory posited by Ahmed
Osman.

In addition to Thutmose III=David & Amenhotep III=Solomon, Osman also suggests
that Akhenaten is Moses, going further by identifying Tutankhamun with Joshua
and, by extension, Jesus.

If you go to http://freespace.virgin.net/a.osman/ you can find an overview of
Osman's thinking. As you can imagine, there are a good many scholars and
laypersons (myself included) who have a hard time believing his theories.
