ctive Server Pages work great for doing searches
and designing dynamic site. Visual Interdev helps
automate the process of creating searches, but it can be a
little pricey. All you really need is a good book and
notepad (of course the ability to do ASP on your server).
Beginning ASP I found Implementing Visual Interdev by
Ventana Press VERY helpful if you have the app. If not,
try Active Server Pages Unleashed by Stephen Walther
helpful, if not a little wordy. It is worth getting into,
in my opinion. CGI is a pain to implement and
maintain, if you are not a true developer.
ctive Server Pages are not the only way to go.
One way would be to use CGI. If you already have a
CGI enabled server, you just have to install files.
If you do not have CGI Access, your provider may be
giving you some good advice to follow, but if you do
have CGI access, they may be looking to make a buck,
or they may think it is more efficient. To learn
more about CGI and its features, I recommend CGI

i all,<br>I hope someone can help me. I am quite

i Justin,<br>Just came from your site. I like
the color scheme you chose. Not bad at all. The load
time is not bad. Each page took about 30 seconds on my
33.6 modem. And I liked the layout. Keep up the good
work.
took the time to look at your site. Good use of
frames and the load time for the pages was very quik(I
connect at 53333 kbps with a 56k modem). The graphics
were quite colorful which tends to "cheer up" the
page. The page did lack in a few things though.I
believe in having some user interactivity in a web site.
It tends to liven up the page a bit, and makes the
page a bit more fun. You could achieve this by adding
some JavaScript or DHTML. Also the page lacks a theme,
or a description of what the site is really all
about, just seemed to be links to everywhere.<br> I
especially liked the image map, when you click on a non-lick
how you set it up to bring you to an "error" page<br>
Here is how I would rate this site on different

my web page? I have had it for a couple years (with
several major overhauls) and have finaly decided that I
like having all the pages the same colors and layout.
I would like to know how it's speed is and what you
think overall of the graphics, layout, etc. Please feel
free to tell me exactly what you like/dislike.

avaScript can be extremely useful on your web

There are many great places that allow you to cut and

es, gregpsc brought up a good point. Learning
HTML and writing it in Notepad or another text editor
can be time consuming. Also, it is a good teacher
too, because a lot of people learn best by
experience.<br><br>webmazterX
use these type of editors because I dont have
the time to actually code my page in notepad. They
are also great tools to learn HTML because you can
make a page then view the code to see what it does.
ow would you set a target for the text area Address Box?<br>exapmple...
onClick="window.location.href=form.url.value"<br>how do you get that link to
open in another frame?
WYSIWYG is a program that allows you to make
HTML documents without having to actually know HTML.
WYSIWYG stands for What You See Is What You Get. These
programs are useful if you don't want to take time and
learn HTML, but I think you get more control over the
way your page looks when you use a text editor and
HTML. The only thing I use WYSIWYGs for is making
frames and tables. Since it takes time to make a table
or frame exactly the way you want it, this is the
easiest way. Once you have it the way you want it, just
copy the code into your document. Ok, putting this
message back on subject, you need to know where to get a
WYSIWYG.<br><br>Well, you might already have one on your computer. If
you have Netscape Communicator, it comes with
Composer. If you have Windows 98, it comes with FrontPage
Express. If you have any program from Microsoft Office 97,
Publisher 97, or newer versions, there are options that
allow you to save regular documents as HTML.
<br><br>You can go out and spend some big money to buy a
WYSIWYG, but there are some good free ones on the net. The
best free one is AOL Press at
<a href=http://www.aolpress.com target=new>http://www.aolpress.com</a><br>If you
don't like that, there are tons other ones.
You can look for them at TuCows-
<a href=http://www.tucows.com target=new>http://www.tucows.com</a><br><br>If you
personally do not care for WYSIWYG's, I
recommend you learn HTML and write the code yourself.

here is nothing set in stone for chats, but I
would like to have weekly discussions, and maybe guests
that we can interview. First, we should wait until we
have some more members, then I am sure I can work
something out. Until then, I hang out in the chat room once
in a while, so you can stop by and check if I'm
there once in a while. I'd like to chat and learn more
about all of you. Anyway, thanks for the great idea.
