We are holding meetings every three months right now, thus by
INETA rules we don’t qualify *yet*. The next meeting is November 20th.
You are more than welcome to come down anytime and speak. Love
to have you.

Hi folks,
Are any of you interested in meeting this month?
If you need a speaker, I'm interested in helping. I am the INETA
Users Group Mentor for Mississippi. My personal goal is to approve
you for INETA membership ASAP.
If I can't find one local to the gulf-coast, I'll try to send one
from INETA or help you myself.
Indeed, if your leader will simply register this Users Group with
INETA, I will attempt to convince a big-name speaker to let INETA
send em' to ya on short order. Or I'll die tryin'.
I'm wishing very much for your success, and would even go as far as
to drive there from Fayetteville Tennessee to support you. If you
like I can share some of what I've learned about Silverlight 2 RC0 vs
WPF3.5SP1 regarding XAML.
I like informal meetings with constant Q&A to drive the presentation.
I will be here in Huntsville Alabama for tomorrow's weekly http://HowToVS.Net SIG meeting and would
happily send you the
LiveMeeting URL if you'd like. We simply meet for 1hr or so and talk
tech. We ask questions and we answer - or seek answers via code on
the fly. Like an Ad-Hoc meeting where everyone can help with the
presentation - lotsa laptops. We use ShareView sometimes too to avoid
the need for a projector.
If you can set a stage for a presenter, let me know and I'll approve
your UG right away since you've already meet a few time anyhow. INETA
will be more than happy to support your Users Group efforts in
Mississippi! You have really started something here to build your
dotNet community.
Thanks, look me up on LinkedIn.com and twitter.com

If you are in
the surrounding Hattiesburg, MS area (Jackson, Mobile, Gulfport, Biloxi, New
Orleans, Slidell, Vicksburg, Meridian, Laurel, etc) there is a free MSDN event
coming to Hattiesburg on September 19th called the MSDN Southern Fried
Roadshow.
The
event is a four hour event with Developer Evangelist Glen Gordon and Architect
Evangelist Chad Brooks. Hattiesburg is the last stop of a five city tour
they are doing throughout the South.
What is an MSDN
Roadshow?
For
those that have never gone to an event like this, this is where Microsoft sends
their Evangelist out into the heart of America to make sure the development
community is familiar with the latest and greatest software. Think of it
as free training! There is no sales pitch, their job is to simply tell
you about the latest releases and answer questions. Larger events are
done in bigger cities typically earlier in the year like Chicago, Detroit,
etc. Now is your chance to get the same material locally in your own
area. Definitely worth the price of admission!

It was great to meet you the other night at the meeting. I
really appreciate you keeping the dialogue going after the meeting.
To answer your question about flyers, yes there are/were
flyers! Vanessa Molden at Professional Outreach had flyers made up.
There were supposed to be some put up around campus (I’m not sure if you
saw them or not). For the meeting in November we could use your assistance
with that for sure. I’ll put you in contact with Vanessa
later on once we settle on who the speaker is going to be so you can assist
with that. The flyers Vanessa had made up looked really good.

First off, I would like to introduce myself. I'm Doug
Burkhalter. For those that attended the meeting yesterday, I was in the back
behind Aubrey. For those that didn't make it...well, I won't use my first
message to insult people, because I'm sure you had a good reason, but
still...:D Anyhow, I would just like to say I'm glad to see some more technical
groups popping up around here.
I would also like to mention that I have started to spread the word about the
group around campus in what limited fashion I can; I've told one teacher about
it so far, but he's working on a large project in .NET with several other
people.
Also, I was wondering about any sort of flyers or such for posting around campus.
I can make something up, but I don't have the best design sense in the world.
But I'm all for spreading the message, posting flyers on boards all around, and
so on. There are a lot of students around here in classes that cover .NET, so I
think it'd be good to recruit that way.
Feel free to veto or offer or so such as you think. After all, I'm brand new,
not trying to take over, just wanting to do my part.
Thanks for the great group, and I look forward to the future with it!
PS: I don't want to post too much contact information, not to keep it from the
group but from any random spam surfers in the world. Hoping to keep this
account pretty clear of spam. But if you have jabber or google talk, this
e-mail address is my primary logon.

first meeting with special guest Sara Ford. Here are the details once
again. We’ll start refreshments at 6:30 and we’ll kick off
the group at 7:00 followed by Sara’s presentation.
Where: University of Southern Mississippi at
the Liberal Arts Building Room 205
When: Meeting at 7:00 PM, refreshments (and
pizza if we can get it worked out with Microsoft) starting at 6:30 PM
Topic: Visual Studio Tips and Tricks
Speaker: Sara Ford, Program Manager Codeplex,
Microsoft
We have free swag (t-shirts, stickers, books, etc) to give
away tonight as well.
All,
If anyone has access to an overhead projector that can be used with a
laptop computer for Tuesday night's meeting (Aug. 26), please contact
me immediately.
USM has been gracious enough to lend us space for our meeting.
However, the room is not supplied with an overhead projector.
Thank you.

FIRST MEETING AUGUST 14th! Hey everyone. I know a lot of you have been waiting patiently for some news about the group. Well good news is here! Aubrey and I met with staff at USM this week and secured a location for us on campus. This is a huge bonus for the group to be working with the University. A special thanks to Fred and Vanessa at the Office of Professional Development and Outreach ( http://www.usm.edu/profdev_edoutreach/ ) for their help and support. Our first meeting is scheduled for August 14th. More information to follow throughout the next several weeks.
GEEK DINNER JULY 10th WITH MICHAEL NEEL For July even though we are not planning on having a meeting but we are planning on having a special guest come in who will be in the area doing a tour at other user groups like ours. Due to the timing and lack of location for the month of July we decided to keep things simple and do a Geek Dinner next Thursday night while Michael is in town. What is a geek dinner? It is just a time for everyone to get together and socialize and talk tech. We'll pick a location soon (if you have any ideas throw them out) and let everyone know.
ABOUT MICHAEL Michael
C. Neel is a Digital Media Developer with Jewelry Television,
independent consultant with ViNull Software and Vice President of the
East Tennessee .Net Users Group (ETNUG). He has been published in
asp.netPro magazine and is a regular speaker at .Net conferences and
user groups.
So mark your calendars for July 10th around 7:00. Place and location TBD.
I don't think I sent this out to the group so I wanted to drop a quick note to everyone that we've created a Technology Podcast called Deep Fried Bytes. Chris Woodruff and myself host the show. You can find more about the show here:
Thanks for emailing to the group. We have yet to set an official location to hold the meetings yet at this time. We are still trying to lock down a location at USM. I was hoping to get the first meeting off the ground in July. Hopefully we'll be able to work out the details and then start shouting from the roof tops about the group.
Glad you found us, look forward to connecting and meeting you as well.

I cannot make arrangements for locations without knowing *when* we are going to try to meet up as a group. I need your help to make sure the date I think we should go with is feesible.
I put together a calendar with all of the .Net user groups that are near us (i left one off but it is on the second thursday, the Ft. Walton group). I attached it to this email. The days that are in red are the days we could potentially meet. Only Mon, Tues, Thurs are days we can meet on BTW.
In picking a time, the thing we want to take into consideration is we want to coordinate with other groups so we can bring in a higher level speaker and have them do a tour of several groups in one week (similar to what Sara Ford is doing in August). Based on the calendar, either the 3rd Tuesday or the 3rd Thursday would give us the most momentum to do that. Looking at the groups we'd coordinate with and their locations, the 3rd Thursday gives us a closer radius to bring in someone and coordinate with Birmingham and New Orleans. Having it on the 3rd Thursday would allow a speaker to travel between Birmingham, NO, and Hattiesburg which would be a lot better than having someone drive from Huntsville to H'burg to Lafayette, LA.
Unless anyone raises any objectings or reasons as to why we should not host the group on the 3rd Thursday, that is the date I am going to set. I know the board discussed meeting on Tuesday but I think our better choice would be Thursday. Any objections?
