For those of you who like further study, check out the Yerkes-Dodson
Law.
And, as a leading management consultant says, "The time's arrived for
needlepoint."
The KEY is letting go of the project ... putting it out of your
mind ... forget about it.
The wording I use comes from the English translation ... I believe
the Hawaiian is "Aumama lele wale akua la. Pau" ... which means, "The
prayer takes flight, let the rain of blessings fall. It is done."
Pau means "finished."
Having completed your prayer-work, GO DO SOMETHING ELSE. I've found
it works best to get carried away with mindless repetition (eg.
Needlepoint) ... some way of severing your previous train of thought.
It also helps to quit concentrating on yourself and dwell instead on
what's happening outside your narrow orbit of self-interest. That's
one of the magical aspects of "altruism."
Anything that helps you put it out of your mind will work ...
walking, jogging, swimming, artistic expression, showering,
housework, a relaxing meal, helping others, whatever.
These things require a shift in attention ... and that allows the
conscious mind to "get out of the way" so the INSIGHT ... the BREAK-
THROUGH EXPERIENCE can happen.
