Actually I think this came from Dr. Laura... (I suspect Socrates did not use
modern American English slang)... and even though the author of this email
may have changed on or two things to make the story more interesting, the
story does what it was supposed to do... reveal an IMPORTANT TRUTH which,

WISDOM

People often wonder why some people have such great friends and manage to
keep them...If you manage to apply the following in your life, the same
could work for you:

In ancient Greece, Socrates was reputed to hold knowledge in high esteem.
One day an acquaintance met the great philosopher and said, "Do you know
what I just heard about your friend?"

"Hold on a minute," Socrates replied. "Before telling me anything I'd like
you to pass a little test. It's called the Triple Filter Test."

"Triple filter?"

"That's right," Socrates continued. "Before you talk to me about my friend,
it might be a good idea to take a moment and filter what you're going to
say. That's why I call it the triple filter test. The first filter is Truth.
Have you made absolutely sure that what you are about
to tell me is true?"

"No," the man said, "actually I just heard about it and..."

"All right," said Socrates. "So you don't really know if it's true or not.
Now let's try the second filter, the filter of Goodness. Is what you are
about to tell me about my friend something good?"

"No, on the contrary..."

"So," Socrates continued, "you want to tell me something bad about him, but
you're not certain it's true. You may still pass the test though, because
there's one filter left: the filter of Usefulness. Is what you want to tell
me about my friend going to be useful to me?"

"No, not really."

"Well," concluded Socrates, "if what you want to tell me is neither true nor
good nor even useful, why tell it to me at all?"

This is why Socrates was a great philosopher & held in such high esteem. If
we are able to protect our friends and those we love in this manner, we
cannot be  influenced by outsiders in having bad notions about them.

What follows is of one of the TMHG's most famous and impressive
success stories. The Wall of Protection project began in 1951 to
protect allied servicemen involved in the Korean conflict.

We are reintroducing this project today.

The Telepathic Mutual Healing Group (TMHG) began its work in 1948
under the direction of Max Freedom Long. It consists of a small group
of Huna Research members who are dedi-cated to the healing of those
who request help healing of the body, personal problems, and social
or financial tangles. The TMHG meets on a regular basis to send
healing to those who request it for themselves or for others.

Below are two excerpts from the HRA Bulletins. The first is the
original announcement, and the second is the letter explaining the
process.

After all was said and done, NOT ONE PERSON ON THE 'WALL OF
PROTECTION' LIST WAS KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED. I'll have to check
my notes, but I believe one man received a minor injury that ended up
saving his life by taking him out of his assigned situa-tion. One
soldier was shot 6 times, and the bullets hit his shovel, his weapon,
etc., leaving him completely unharmed.

I'll take 100% success anytime! More information on this and how we
are conduction our current project will appear in the next Huna

ANNOUNCING A NEW TMHG DAILY PRAYER-ACTION SERVICE FOR THOSE
ENDANGERED BY WAR

Since the fresh outbreak of war, requests have been coming in for
special work through the T.M.H.G. to enlist the aid of the Aumakua1
in building a wall of protection around those who are now actively
engaged in conflict, or who may soon be.

The matter of building protection is in no way different from our
regular Huna method of working to get the future changed from a
possible bad one to a good and desirable one. The kahuna were
constantly engaged in the work of bringing about such changes from
bad to good on the part of the ones they served. In our work for
health or betterment of financial or social conditions, we use the
same steps: (1) decide what is wanted, (2) visualize NOTHING but the
desired condition, and (3) present this picture with a flow of mana
to the Aumakua in the usual prayer-action.

If the one who is now in danger, or who may be in danger later on,
can cooperate in this work and make with us the positive picture of
protection and the possession of a "charmed life" (as it will
actually become), then the best possible results may be expected. If,
on the other hand, the person involved cannot, for some reason or
other, be told of the method we are using or take part in it, his
friends or loved ones may do much without his knowledge. This is a
true Service and is designed to help. It is, therefore, under our
Huna system of action, entirely good and entirely justified.

In addition to the individual who is actively engaged in the
fighting, or who may be, there is a similar need for protection on
the part of those whose lives are bound up with his—the wives,
parents, children or others held close in the bonds of love, For
these there is a similar need of the carefully-built-up wall of
protection. For the soldier we visualize personal safety in body as
well as a happy final outcome and return to civil life. For the ones
who remain behind there must be a similar visualization of safety
from bodily harm, from breaking mental stresses, and for faith and
confidence. The pictured end of the war and its happy outcome and the
return to civil life, is the same because it includes the whole of
the group within the bounds of mutual love and dependence.

Those who wish to do so are invited to take part in this special
branch of the TELEPATHIC MUTUAL HEALING GROUP work, whether or not
they are regular HRAs. Also, HRA volunteers are needed for this work.
If possible, I would like to have one or more of us praying in the
Huna way on the even hour all through the day and into the night so
far as possible. It may be that each volunteer can be provided with
the signature of all the ones being held in this way to the Light.
This would give the fullest contact via the aka threads and would
make the best working conditions. For the present, the list is read
and the work carried on through the aka thread connecting the one who
requested the prayers and his or her loved ones who are to be
surrounded by a stronger and stronger wall of psychic protection.
Write to me if you are interested in any way and either wish to add
names to the list or to take an active part. Keep up the prayer-

WALL OF PROTECTION PROJECT
Open Letter to Participants

[This is a letter about recent discoveries, which have to do with the
very latest and most efficient method of making prayers.
Dear Friend:
For three years, my friends and I have been experimenting with the
methods of prayer found in a recently rediscovered and very ancient
system of thought, belief, and practice which had no name, but was
always spoken of by the initiates who knew it, as "THE SECRET." The
system was based on religious knowledge and psychology. It appears to
be the "Strong meat" which Je-sus reportedly reserved for his
disciples—a secret lore covering the ways of getting miraculous
healing results through a certain method of making and delivering
prayers.

This letter is for our fighting men and their loved ones. It is to
explain in the fewest possible words just how to use the new prayer
methods. It is to teach the man endangered in war to pray in the best
possible manner for protection from all forms of danger. It is to
teach the loved ones at home how to pray for the safety of the ones
at the front or on the sea or in the air.

The customary methods of making prayers need not be changed. What
they need is to have a few things added to methods now in use. We all
know of the miraculous answers to prayer re-corded in World Wars I
and II. There can be no question about the protection that can be
called down by prayer. All that need concern us is the matter of
being more CERTAIN that the prayer will get the desired results.

While the ancient system of which I speak was not a part of
Christianity—because it was developed and lost long before Jesus
lived and taught, there is so much of it thinly hidden in Christian
teachings that this presentation can best be made in terms of the New
Testament. Of course, it can be applied by people of any faith. Its
inner and secret teachings may be found in all great religions if one
knows what to look for.

I think that most of you who are new to "THE SECRET" will find little
difficulty in under-standing the fact that "As above, so below"
applies to the trinity of God in the highest reaches of conscious
being, the "Three In One," and, on the other hand, to us who
are "created in His own likeness on the human levels of
consciousness. Man is made up of three "selves," the conscious mind
self, the subconscious mind self and a Superconscious Mind Self,
which we know as the Guardian Angel, of which every man, woman and
child, without exception, has one. Modern psychology recognizes the
first two selves, but is still puzzling over the third, because it is
not something to be taken into the laboratory.

The Guardian Angel or High Self is much older and wiser than the
other two selves, being able to see and shape the future. All three
selves are going through the school of life. We might say that the
subconscious is in the grade school, the conscious self in high
school and the High Self in College. Jesus spoke of the High Self as
the "Father" and of himself as the "Son." This was a veiling of the
secret lore and has not been clearly understood until now. Jesus
taught, "The Father and I are one." He disclosed the fact that all
the miracles which he performed were made possible by the action of
the Father. The secret of why and how was given only to the
disciples. Jesus also taught that all prayers to the Highest Being in
the Universe, GOD, must be sent through the Father, or in the name of
Jesus as ONE WITH THE FATHER, which amounted to the same thing. What
I wish to tell you is that in the "SECRET" we have found the how and
why of this. We cannot pray directly to Ultimate God, whose very
nature is beyond our comprehen-sion, so we must send cur prayers to
our High Self and depend on its greater wisdom to know how to forward
them on to the next higher levels of Beings when necessary. (Yes,
there are many levels of conscious Beings between the High Self and
Ultimate God, and all are triune in their nature. But, because these
are quite beyond the reach or comprehension of men, Jesus had little
to say of them. He knew that in so far as men were concerned, the
thing of greatest impor-tance was that they learn to know and to work
with the "Father" High Self.)

That covers the first point in the new way of making prayers. We pray
to God as usual, but address our prayers to Him through our own
Guardian angel. One may pray to God in the cus-tomary way, asking
things in the name of Jesus, or one may address the prayers to the
Guardian Angel, asking that they be handed on to any other Higher
Being if necessary. It makes little dif-ference to whom our prayers
are addressed for the simple reason that all prayers automatically go
to the Guardian Angel or Superconscious Self.

The reason for this is that all prayer is sent by telepathy and that
the Guardian Angel of each of us is tile only one tuned in to pick up
our telepathic prayer message. In the Bible we read of the "silver
cord." This is invisible to ordinary sight, but people gifted with
psychic sight have often seen silvery cords leading away from the
body of a friend. Not only are we naturally tied to our Guardian
angel with a strong and unbreakable cord of this kind, but we are
tied to loved ones and close friends in a similar way. The threads or
cords carry our mental pictures like the wires of a telegraph, our
vital force acting as the electricity needed in the process.

In recent years many experiments have been made with telepathy. It
has been proven to be a fact at several universities. But a strange
thing was observed from the first. Words, which are vocal symbols of
things or thoughts, are far more difficult to send telepathically
than mental pic-tures of things or conditions. The eye is the oldest
and most highly developed organ of the senses and it seems to play
the major part in this matter. And, this being a fact, as all books
on telepathy tell us, our prayers are best sent as mental pictures.
In other words, one prays best if one holds before his mind's eye a
picture of the condition which is desired to be brought about by the
Guardian Angel.

For example, one might pray, "Heavenly Father — Guardian Angel — this
is the condition I ask that you bring about in the future. It is a
condition in which, day and night, in battle and out, I am surrounded
by your protection as by a WALL OF LIGHT AND MIGHTY INVISIBLE AND
INVINCIBLE POWER."

We do not need to tell the Guardian Angel how to bring about this
condition of protection under all circumstances, for it is older and
vastly wiser. It knows. But in saying the words we may select to
describe the circumstance and the way the protection is given, we
help OUR-SELVES make a complete and detailed MENTAL PICTURE of what
we desire and, even as we say our prayer, aloud or silently, we send
that picture telepathically through the intervening space, large or
small, to the Guardian Angel Self, who hovers directly over us at all
moments of danger, protecting and directing in a way hard for us to
sense, but that is effective to the last de-gree.

One may picture the Guardian Angel as a shining human form, standing
above one with arms outstretched in protection, and with the WALL of
protective Light and Power falling all around one as a cone. No
matter how this is pictured, it carries the telepathic message of
what is being asked in the prayer.

On the other hand, one must take great pains NOT to let fear or
anxiety cause one to make during prayer a picture of the condition
which may be feared, such as death, being wounded or otherwise
injured. This is because of a law, which we do not understand because
it seems con-trary to the loving action of a Guardian Angel to allow
such a picture to form as a reality in the conditions of the
individual's future. It is enough to say, in this short exposition of
the   "SE-CRET," that each human being has been given the priceless
gift of FREE WILL. He is allowed to decide for himself what he will
or will not do, and is thus enabled to learn by experience. The
Guardian Angels are bound under this law NOT to interfere and to keep
hands off of the two lower selves UNLESS their help and guidance and
protection are asked for through prayer.

Because of this FREE WILL, which is ours by divine edict, we, as men,
blunder along and learn the hard way. We make wars on our fellow men,
and often wonder why God allows such things. Knowing of the LAW of
FREE WILL, we have the answer to the question.

However, all life is growth, and at some point in his growth, each
human being makes the discovery that there is a HIGHER BEING above
him which is wiser, kinder, more loving, and more powerful, also that
it can be appealed to in prayer and that, when invited, to take a
part in his life, can and will do so in a way that seems no less than
miraculous.

One is "converted" in terms of Christianity, when one becomes aware
of the actuality of the Higher Beings and their yearning love. Often
the contrast between his acts and those of the lov-ing and utterly
trustworthy Guardian Angel—and even higher Beings—is so great that
there fol-lows a strong "conviction of sin" and a turn into better
ways. SALVATION comes from the fact of knowing of the Guardian Angel
and working with it—in this way giving all three of the triune SELVES
the rightful share in living the life of the individual. Change the
words Guardian Angel to the words Jesus the Christ and Savior, and
you will see how this fits into all Christian teach-ings.

When one is caught in the wars and other desperate situations brought
about by ourselves, because we have used FREE WILL blindly,
the "REDEMPTION" comes through the facts that Jesus taught and which
the more ancient "SECRET" contained. This teaching is that only when
we become aware of the High Self—the Superconscious, the Guardian
Angel, the Christ-in-us—and begin to work with it and under its
guidance, do we progress as individuals and as nations.

It makes little difference who is right and who wrong when a man is
caught in the blind struggle of FREE WILL war and forced to fight—to
kill or be killed. All that counts in terms of growth and real
progress is that the Higher Beings be recognized and the door opened
by prayer to invite them to take their just parts in our lives. It
may safely be left to them to adjust the entire matter of right and
wrong in war—which is, in any event, something the fighting man is
helpless to do anything about. One lives as kindly and humane a life
as is possible, while confidently leaving it to Higher Powers to
adjust the spiritual values of right and wrong. On all the lower
levels of life the strong devour the weak. It cannot be helped. But
when we tie ourselves back—which is the literal meaning of the
word "religion"—to the higher levels and part of our triune being, we
come under the new dispensation where love and kindness hold sway in
vaster worlds.

We have seen how the prayer is to be delivered telepathically to the
Guardian Self. Now we must consider a very vital matter, the vital
force or electrical life energy, which is the driving force behind
the whole mechanism of prayer and its answer.
In former years we did not know why hands were laid on those who were
to be healed or who were being blessed. We did not know what
the "virtue" was that left Jesus when the woman touched his robe and
was healed—the "virtue" that he actually felt leave his body. Now,
thanks to modern research and to the "SECRET," we know that it was
electro-vital  force. We know that this force must be present and be
put to use in every act of thinking, picturing, and forming plans—
even in remembering and dreaming. It is a force which is used by each
of the three selves of man, but it is manufactured by the low self in
the body, that being one of its jobs. The con-scious mind self draws
on this supply of vital force to get what it needs for thinking,
which is, primarily, its job. And now comes something of great
importance. If the Superconscious Self (Guardian Angel) is to have
sufficient power to mould future conditions and to do actual protec-
tive work of a miraculous nature in response to prayers, IT ALSO MUST
BE SUPPLIED WITH A GOODLY AMOUNT OF electro-vital force.

Because we cannot see the Guardian Angel and because it uses a wisdom
and skill which we have still to come to know and possess, we have
overlooked the need for its part of the vital force drawn from the
lower and denser levels of physical living. In modern Psychic Science
we have excellent evidence that this is a fact, and in the "SECRET"
we have much information, the most important point in which is that
the vital force in the hands of the Guardian Angels can make in-stant
changes in physical matter. Instant healing of a broken bone is an
example. The broken parts of the actual bone are changed and put back
in the former condition. In miracles of healing where parts of the
body are changed or restored, it is the same. Always, it is actual
physical mat-ter instantly turned to nothing and as often returned to
some better original state. In Psychic Sci-ence our great
investigators have observed under the strictest test conditions the
passage of living animals and men through walls. They have seen metal
and stone objects, ice, flowers and in-sects—endless things—changed
to an invisible form and returned to the natural form, usually after
being transported from other places and passed through closed doors
or walls. (Over a hun-dred famous men have testified to these things,
but because they could not be explained, we have heard little of them
in schools or journals. However, all good libraries can furnish pages
of testi-mony in scientific verification of the phenomena.)

In Spiritualistic séances under test conditions, scientific studies
have shown that so much vi-al force was taken from the living for
this work of changing solid or living objects that the members of the
circle and the medium were often left nearly exhausted at the end of
the sitting. If the training you have had makes you doubt what is
being related, that is of little consequence. The important thing
which is to be got across is the basic fact that, if enough vital
force is not available to the Guardian Angel, it cannot make changes
in the matter on the physical level or shape circumstances except by
very slow stages, as vital force can be obtained little by little. In
battle instant changes in the material of bullets or shells or flame
may be necessary in forming the WALL of protection.
This brings us to the actual methods used as a vital part of prayer
to supply this electro-vital force. Ordinarily, a man or woman in
normal health has more vital force stored in the body than is needed.
One may suddenly begin to run, and can go on for a short time on the
supply already in the body, but if the exertion is to keep up, more
must be made in short order. The subcon-scious self will do this, but
it may take a few minutes to get the sugar in the blood burning in
oxygen and the manufacture of the force going full blast—so that
we "get our second wind."

Fortunately, we have but to think strongly that we are making a large
extra supply of vital force, and the subconscious will at once set to
work to make it. We can test this action of mind by imagining
ourselves getting set for a race. As we imagine we are getting set,
we will find our bodies tensing and our breath quickening—more vital
force being provided. There is another way we can test the amount of
vital force stored in our bodies. We do not have to have the mod-ern
instruments that measure the force in body and brain in laboratories.
All that is needed is a ring or other bit of material to tie to a bit
of thread about four inches long to make a plumb bob or pendulum.
Holding the improvised pendulum with about three and one-half inches
of thread between object and fingers, it is suspended over the free
palm. Give the mental or oral command to the subconscious self to
make the pendulum swing to indicate your normal charge of vital
force. It will usually swing with a moderate motion. Or you can ask
that it swing a number of times, while you count the swings to get
the number of the charge. The average number of swings has been found
to run between 250 and 350. The swing is usually back-and-forth, but
can be circular. Some people may not be able to get a reading, but
can be read by a friend, if he holds the pendulum over the palm of
the one to be tested. Some are so constituted that the pendulum will
not swing for them or will just keep on swinging. That only shows
that the low self is not grasping the idea of the test. We all have
vital force if we are alive, and can accumulate a sur-charge if we
can think, exert the will, and instruct the subconscious self.

The subconscious will learn in surprisingly short order to accumulate
a large surcharge of vital force when asked to do so. One may stand
with feet spread far apart and arms extended at the sides level with
the shoulders. One begins by taking deeper breaths and says or
thinks, "I am now accumulating an extra supply of vital force and
storing it in my body for use. I am filling myself with the universal
life force from toes to the top of my head. I feel it tingling in my
hands NOW."

Usually a tingle will be felt in hands or elsewhere in the body.
One's sight will become keener and details at a distance will stand
out. One will be more alert mentally and able to re-member or to
memorize faster. One will be able to solve mental problems with
numbers faster and more accurately. There are many indications. One
will feel better, throw off depression, and overcome fear or
nervousness. The pendulum test is very good, however, as it is
something all may see. After trying to accumulate a surcharge, say
for two or three minutes, make the pendu-lum test as before and see
how much stronger the swing is or how many more times it swings while
you are counting.

When the tests show that one can quickly accumulate a surcharge of
vital force, practice at making a complete, effective, and powerful
prayer-action should very quickly show results.
The prayer steps are these:
(1) Decide what you want to ask for and try making a clear and
complete mental picture of it. When that is done, (2) accumulate a
surcharge of vital force as instructed above. There is no need to
test its strength once you have learned the knack. (3) Pray to your
Guardian Angel or to whomever you are accustomed to pray (all prayers
go to the same place in any case), and as you ask for a condition to
be brought about, picture it in your mind and describe it in words to
help yourself make the picture. This picture will go telepathically
to the Guardian Angel. (4) Say, "I am now sending to you, my Father
Guardian Self, a large supply of vital force. Accept it and cleanse
it. Use it as you see fit for your own purposes and to bring about
the conditions I ask for and picture n my mind. Use the pictures as
seeds. Use the life force I send to make them grow into material
conditions on this level soon. This sending of force and holding of
the mental pic-ture may go on for a minute or more. Each person soon
senses the length of time best suited for his own prayer-actions. (5)
Give thanks that the desired condition has already been made a real-
ity in the invisible and is soon to appear in the visible. Word your
thanks and feel your joy, while you make a gleaming mental picture of
your own joyful face filled with gratitude. This emotion of gratitude
and joy is very important, since it is something in which the
subconscious self takes part and finds a form of expression. If one
feels a stir of emotion, that is the sure sign that the subconscious
self is doing its full part in making the prayer and sending the
telepathic pictures and vital force that must go to the Guardian
Self. (6) Say "Amen," and end your prayer in orderly manner. Let go
of it mentally and be confident that it has been properly made and
will be an-swered. This confidence "having faith." Expect to see the
conditions requested come about and refuse to imagine the contrary as
happening.

The prayer action may be repeated after a few minutes of rest and
relaxation in mind, if not in body. Even in action one may soon be
able to accumulate a surcharge and make a prayer-action swiftly. The
Catholics learned long since that by praying for something every hour
for a day or more (a "novena" or nine-day rite), answers were best
obtained. Now we know that all depends on how much vital force can be
accumulated and supplied to the Guardian Self to use in building the
answer to the prayer—in bringing about the condition requested on
this material level of life and action.

The secret behind all offerings in religion is that one must offer
his own vital force. "Offer yourself, a living sacrifice, wholly
acceptable, etc.," as we read in the veiled words of the Bible. This
vital force, when in the bands of the Guardian Father Self, is
the "Light," and often one sees a spread of the whitest imaginable
light behind one's eyelids when praying. It is the "Water of Life"
also, and has been hidden in symbols all down the centuries from the
time when, in the far, dim past, the ancestors of the human race came
to know the inner secrets of the relation of the three selves of man—
the relation of man to God through the Father.

Those who can overcome their natural shyness in speaking to friends
of such matters as this can benefit greatly by joining others in
making the same general prayer, such as a prayer for the safety of
the squad. Once such a prayer has been discussed and a picture of the
desired condition agreed upon, several men may join and silently go
through the steps of the prayer while one act-ing as leader speaks
aloud the words of the prayer, in which the picture is described and
the re-quest is made for it to be brought about. The wording is not
important but the picture made by all in the group must be as nearly
the same as possible. In this way, the joined power of the Guard-ian
Angels of the men of the group is shared in such a way that it can be
focused in its entirety for the protection of any one in the group
who may momentarily be in the path of danger. There is great truth in
the "Where two are gathered in my name," and with numbers the power
in-creases proportionately. A sincere chaplain of any faith should be
able to lead this form of prayer, if he is not blinded to the truth
behind the newly uncovered "SECRET" method. The new way of prayer can
be used in addition to any other religious observance or apart from
it. It is fit-ted to men of any faith or of little or no religious
background.

A great service can be done a friend who may not readily grasp the
idea of how to make this type of prayer for himself. You may pray for
him effectively, but one thing he must do for him-self to the best of
his ability, however slight, and this is to ask in whatever prayer he
can make, that the Guardian Angel Self watching over him take a hand
in his life and help in whatever way is seen best. This is the step
needed under what seems to be the ironclad law of allowing the full-
ness of experience under FREE WILL. This is opening the door and
inviting help. If the individ-ual will request that help as best he
can, his friends or loved ones at home may pray through their own
Guardian Selves to HIS, asking for a WALL of protection in exactly
the same way as for themselves.  In this way the man for whom prayer
is strange or difficult may be brought into the group where his
Guardian can work with the others, share the accumulating supply of
vital force and use it for the good f all. Pray even for a man who
gives reluctant consent to being prayed for. It may work miracles for
him, and if he is one of your squad, prayers for him may keep the
entire squad from being touched.

Those at home can also pray, and in the same way. Distance means
nothing in telepathic contact, and prayer for another makes the basic
thing, "church," to multiply power. Frequent prayer gets best
results. Five times a day is the way the Moslems advise us to pray.
In emergen-cies we may pray almost "constantly," as is advised in tie
Bible at one place, or "without ceas-ing." Any who wish to have
prayer-actions made with and for them, may send in their name to me,

Mu & a probable connection between Druidism and Christianity. The

Plongeon who was convinced that refugees from Mu, was a continent that
resemblem Atlantis and founed the Mayan civilization.  (The Queen of

Mu" was published by this elderly Anglo-American.  it was stated that an old
Asian priest taught him to translate the "Muvian language" inscribed on the
tablets in India and Mexico.  The sunken Pacific continent of Mu is state to
have even predated Atlantis.  it fourished with mastodons, folra and fauna
alike byt the island was located on gas-filled caves.

In contrast to post-Atlantis, the English Poet William Blake believed that
the "Altantean King Albion" led the last of his subjects to Britian where

In 1888. Helen Petrovna Hahn/ Madame blavatsky wrote a book for the "The
Thesophical Society" meaning God and Wisdom called her book THE SECRET
DOCTRINE (2-Vols.)  She even claimed that Asian spirits taught her about the
lost continent of Atlanatis & Lemuria.  She concentrated her efforts on the
mystery of  "Lemuria" which is named after primates called Lemurs and this
species earlier evolutionary migration.  Scientists had suggested there had
been a conmtinent ( a land-bridge joining Madagascar, South African and
India.  The English zoologist, Philip Sclater called this land-bridge--"Land
of Lemuria"
The Theosophical Society believed "Lemurians" to be 3 of 7 root races of
man-kind in the Sousthern hemisphere and who were hermaphrodite people and
communicated by psychic poweres.  "Atlanteans" were stated to have evolved

I just got a message from a member I've been coaching recently and I

LETTER OF TRANSMISSION

Dear Friend and Huna Research Associate:

If you have arrived at the point of taking up the second unit of the
materials I am endeavoring to transmit to you, and if you have managed until
now to keep from having the toes of your favored psycho-religious beliefs
trodden upon painfully, you are in need to be congratulated.

Most of us arrive at this pint in the approach to the study and experimental
practice with the bark rubbed off on at least a few exposed corners, so, if
you have found the going hard, be encouraged.  Almost every one of us has
had the same painful experience, and nearly all of us have come on through
with colors flying.  The fact is that people who have not gone into the
study of religions and the related magic and psychic lore, deeply and
earnestly and curiously enough to arrive at some very definite conclusions,
are usually very superficial students.

If you aren’t peeking ahead to see what is in the “next lesson”, before you
have completed the work of Lesson I, you should now have arrived at a
decision in the matter of what you wish to have built into your future
probably you will be short on details, but you should have a good general
idea of what you wish to DO, to Be, TO HAVE, and HOW YOU WISH TO SERVE
HUMANITY.

Or, you may have found that you could not make a decision, and that it
seemed best to start your work making your Huna prayer-action for help and
guidance in deciding.

The theory is, as nearly as we can find out, that the conscious mind or
middle self, has grown through a few incarnations and levels of
intelligence, and has now come to the place where it has to learn to paddle
its own canoe, and at the same time learn to guide, direct and care for the
low subconscious self.  The creative power of mind has been partly entrusted
to us, and we will be held with noses to this particular grindstone until we
get over the childish way of drifting through life.  That is the way we did
a few lives back when we were low selves in some body.  Back in those days
we depended on the conscious mind self who bossed us, to decide on things.
We may have brought across the tendency to let someone else do our thinking
and planning for us, or to drift along, pushed this way and that by chance
happenings or by associates.  Whether this angle of theory and speculation
is valid or not, makes very little difference just now.  Anyone needs a plan
to follow, even if it is only a plan to go down to the corner store for a
loaf of bread.  None of us start out aimlessly, not knowing that we are
going to the store or that we are going to get bread – EXCEPT when we start
out living our lives.  That’s why so many of us find ourselves in places
where we had no desire to be and with a stone for bread.

With that little lecture off my chest (you could probably have delivered a
better one), we come to the third thing you may have decided.  This is that
you have worked your way into a situation, which exactly suits you.  In that
case, you need only to make your Huna prayer-action to insure yourself
against being shaken out of your snug (no, I did not say smug) nest.

Service, with a big “S”, is a synonym for SAFETY, in matters where we wish
to let well enough alone.  Get your hand in and do some healing while you
are in good health (I hope you are).  Someday you may need some other fellow
to help you.  It doesn’t take theories to teach us that this is good common
sense.  We learn either by falling over everything and barking our shins, or
by stopping to take a good long look around to see what is the best
direction to go, and to map a course between the brambles and pitfalls.  Out
of these three choices may come something very like this “Three Guesses”, or
even the “THREE WISHES”.  Who knows. --MFL


Lesson 2.

SUGGESTED APPROACH TO HUNA IN THE SECOND STEP.

Once you have decided on at least some elements to build into your future,
with the aid of the High Self or Aumakua, you are ready to begin learning to
pray in quite a new way – the Huna way.

THE HUNA THEORY OF PRAYER must be studied and understood, then kept well in
mind, otherwise you may fall into a slovenly way of doing what is the most
important action in the series of experiments that your are undertaking.

The Huna prayer-action differs from the ordinary prayer in many respects.

1. In the care with which the decision is made as to what to pray for.

2. In the fact that the prayer must be sent telepathically, through the low
self, and along the aka thread to the High Self, as thought forms, and on a
carrying and empowering flow of mana or vital force. (This set of thought
forms must be created and made ready before hand.  The supply of vital force
must also be readied.)

3. If there is a hundering guilt sense, fixation or complex, or if there is
doubt (lack of ability to control the low self to the proper degree, then
preliminary work must also be done to meet these obstacles – to clear the
“blocks” from the “path”, as the kahunas would say.

4. In Huna one does not pray in the supposedly Christian manner of the
Germans in the first World War, “God strike England.”  We learn in Huna that
the best way to set the High Selves of others to working against us is to
try to injure the ones over whom they stand as Guardians.

5. In Huna one does not pray as a part of religious duty in the way we
modern often do.

To the kahunas prayer was a very serious business.  In prayer one can cry
“Wolf, wolf!” once too often.  The real meaning of “taking the name of the
Lord in vain”, seems to have been making a prayer action for something of no
importance or with part of the action forgotten or carelessly performed.
The word of profanity tossed out by a man is usually of no importance
because it involves none of the actions that make a prayer “strike the
mark”.

This is as good a place as any to get out our text, SSBM, and brush up on
the Huna concepts with the Aumakua, the guilt sense, the fixations, and the
blocks in the path.  Set yourself a series of readings, and make notes from
day to day so you will be sure where to look for items in the next text.
(Unfortunately it has no good topical index)  begin with Chapter 3, page 59,
and wade through to the end of the book if you wish to pick up all these
points and get them well in hand.  Or check through the pamphlet Huna, where

Here are some RANDOM NOTES,
The idea of “God Within”, caused some confusion in the approach of a number
of HRAs in our first year.  They wrote to me to quote line and page to show
that “God” was within each of us and that the use of the telepathic method
of sending the prayer was not necessary.  And, if telepathy need not be
used, there could be no need for a flow of mana, and if thought forms had to
be used, we could make them as we talked directly to God inside our own
bodies, minds and souls.  (“Ye are gods”.  “The Kingdom of Heaven is
within”. etc.)

I also had it explained to me repeatedly that all one has to do to be free
of a guilt complex is to pray for forgiveness after repenting.  In
Christianity Jesus had died on the cross to pay for all of our sins, if we
would only ask in His name for forgiveness.

I also was belabored with the question, “Don’t you know that if we do not
get what we pray for, it is because our karma is such that we do not deserve
help?”

Let me quote for you a bit from a special article which I wrote to cover the
stumbling block of the modern idea of “God Within” (God being considered as
a Universal Consciousness or Spirit, in the last analysis.)

HUNA AND THE GOD WITHIN

Men first worshiped their gods as things outside themselves, in trees or
rocks or idols, or in the sun and wind and sky.  Only much later came the
concept of “God Within”. (This is not a Bible doctrine, as a check will soon
show.)  We may well pause to put to ourselves the very serious question of
whether or not there IS a god or God within us.

We must go far back into the yesterdays of mankind to find the first part of
the answer.  Savage man was a believer in spirits at a very early age, for
the simple reason that mediumship was common and that many could see or
sense the spirits of the departed, (living on in their aka bodies.)  The
best of these mediums came to be regarded with awe, fear and respect.  They
were quick to take advantage of their power, and frequently pretended to be
taken over bodily by a god – the god apparently talking through their lips
and giving commands.  The claims of importance of the gods grew, and with
the claims, the stature of the gods.  Eventually, the tribal medicine men
reached the stage in which they claimed that the god, which spoke through
them, was the ONE and ONLY and SUPREME GOD.  It was easier, apparently, to
go apart into the desert or mountains, and come back to tell what the god
had said.  Moses came back with the Ten commandments.  As time went on, the
many “revealed” scriptures were given through direct mediumship by the
disembodied, or by the process of the holy man writing down what had been
revealed to him.  These scriptures give us the phrase, “Thus sayeth the
Lord.”

In this way the psycho-religio-magical systems evolved (Huna with the rest,
in all probability.)  Through all the pages of holy writ we can trace the
labored growth of these man-made and spirit-made concepts.  They were
childish and savage at first, with jealous and savage tribal gods who ruled
over their “chosen people”, and them only.  Later the concepts matured
slowly so that the god became a world God and demanded dominion over all the
world.  The zeal of the missionary movement was kindled, and in some cases
the conquest of the world was pressed with fire and sword.

As the concepts matured, Ultimate God became too wise and powerful and
awe-ful to speak through human lips.  This was because what was said by his
self-announced representatives-on-earth, was not in keeping with the idea
that HE was all-powerful and knew the future.  The all-powerfulness was not
often exerted as promised, and the prophet was, with good reason, “without
honor in his own country”.  Predictions too seldom “came true”.


In the West, in modern times, a few bold individuals undertook to find a
better God concept.  They turned to science and found it less than helpful.
Psychology, then a budding semi-science, offered the ideas of the subliminal
part of consciousness, with a possible supraliminal.  They accepted that to
a degree – and then found themselves forced to go back to do the old, old
thing of making a FIRST PREMISE, and accepting it without proof.  This was
the premise that the universe must have been created through a process
exactly like the creative processes man can imagine (not like some
infinitely different process, which a higher form of consciousness might
imagine).

The result was the usual guess that there was a SINGLE, one-and-only kind of
Creative Consciousness, and that IT was ALL that could possibly be, also
that IT was omnipotent and omnipresent.

With this FIRST PREMISE accepted (out of seeming necessity because nothing
better could be evolved), the rest was easy.  They had only to begin drawing
logical deductions.  (Always with the play on words that confuses.)  They
argued that if God was ALL, we were a part of Him, and so was had a part of
god in us.  It followed, very logically, that we should, therefore, be able
to appeal to the part of god within us, and be heard instantly.

The new concept of “Universal Mind or Consciousness” was, however, just a
very old set of ideas under new names.  Not only were the ideas old, but the
old drawbacks were fastened tightly to the fine new package. The prayers
made to the part of God within still got no better average of results than
the prayers to the God without.

With the advent of Spiritualism and Psychic Science, a new approach to the
idea of God Within was made.  Premonitions were found to come in our dreams
and as SOMETHING THAT AROSE IN OUR MINDS AS FROM SOME INNER PART OF THE MAN.
Now, after a number of years, the battle still rages over the (a) source
from whence come the glimpses of the future, whether from an outside
conscious activity, blanket or Universal Consciousness, or (b) from some
undeveloped native sensory faculty or mechanism, perhaps involving the
pineal or pituitary glands (the gland idea being borrowed from India via the
Theosophists.)

At this very late date, comes the rediscovery of Huna, and, for the first
time in recorded history, we have before us a simple answer to the problem.
This answer involves not more than a dozen elements (3 manas, 3 entities, 3
aka bodies, and the aka threads, and the “fixations” that “block” them to
prevent contact and interchange with the High Self.)

Huna presents the “Ultimate God” as something that appears to be a blanket
mixture of consciousness, energy and matter, all spread through the
universe, but allowing individual centers of conscious being to appear and
exist with a sense of separate levels of growth or
movement-through-environment.  They may be embodies in gross visible matter
or in invisible aka bodies.  They may be gods or microbes – or three-self
man.

Under this Huna explanation, we have our problem reduced to whether the unit
in man – the High Self – just above the conscious mind self in evolution and
mental power, is WITHIN THE PHYSICAL BODY or connected to it by an aka
thread, while remaining OUTSIDE (at least for the most part.).  We no longer
have to worry about the part of God on Arcturus (a distance so great that
the imagination might be badly strained to bridge with even an aka thread –
and certainly to great to allow that part of God to be within us.  In other
words, the High Self (as the lesser god to whom we are able to pray, and who
will know when and how to pray for us to still higher gods, if that should
be necessary,) is the god without which sends messages to us across the aka
thread – premonitions, etc., - by way of the low self who is WITHIN the
body, as if at the other end of a telephone, and who passes up to us the
messages.  These messages seem to come from deep inside ourselves – as they
really do, according to Huna – and this may account for the conviction that
there is a god within.  (End article quotation.)

In the prayers made down the centuries by methods other than those of the
kahunas, ALL the ADJUNCTS, from sacrificing a living animal and burning its
body on an altar, to the modern use of “affirmations” and “decreeing”, are
efforts to find a way to get better answers to prayer.

If we are to understand the various prayer methods favored by various cults,
we will do well to analyze them in terms of Huna, asking whether the thought
form of the prayer is clear and strong and uncontaminated by doubts and
fears; whether the telepathic mechanism is indicated, and whether the vital
force is brought into play to do its part.  Most important of all, we must
ask whether any particular method of prayer recognize the complex and takes
steps to find and remove it.

Many things in prayer rituals can be classes as useful because they act as
physical stimuli to impress the low self and help establish faith, or help
us to cause the low self to act as requested in presenting the prayer to the
High Self.  Kneeling and clasping the hands is an example.  Any posture, to
which the low self is habituated and trained to react, is useful, even if
not necessary.  To get to confession and to be absolved of sin is help for
those brought up to that rite.  Lighting a candle before the altar before
prayer is a ritual act of great value to some, as in the presence of a
shrine, be it noting more than a tiny corner in the home, before which to
kneel.

A letter arrived one day from one of the newer HRAs, puzzling over the part
assigned by Huna to the matter of supplying the High Selves with the mana or
vital force in order that they might have sufficient force at their disposal
to make the prayed for changes in the future. “I have always believed,” this
HRA wrote, “that WHATEVER GODS THERE MAY BE were GODS because they were
wiser and infinitely STRONGER than we who pray to them? Why should we now
think that we have to make the High Selves stronger before they can help us
by answering our prayers – or have I overlooked something in you report
Huna?”

The matter was not too clear in my book. And, right here, let me call
attention to the fact that we are unable at this point to test the validity
of the Huna idea – unless by getting better answers to prayer.

However, as we are mainly concerned with the work of understanding Huna, and
trying to make certain that we know what the kahunas believed and did, we
can let a fruitless argument about the power of the Huh Selves lie for the
moment.  The only thing that is important to testing out the Huna system
just now is to know enough about it to be able to make the tests
intelligently.

A look at the whole ritual of prayer and worship, from the kahuna’s point of
view, may be had by examining the meanings of the word they used and by
making a comparison with similar words and their meanings in other systems.

I realize that word studies may be dull to some students, so apologize in
advance.  I also admit a tinge of self justification, for I have had
superficial students of things Hawaiian call my interpretation of Huna
“Longism” not “Kahunaiam”, and, of all things, I wish to avoid being classed
as a cult founder.


Back in the dim past, the preEgyptain kahunas may have given voice to a few
cryptic utterance, and so misled their half-savage contemporaries.  Be that
as it may, we find in history the ritual by which the gods were asked for
help.

There was first a ritual of worship, with dancing and such music as could be
made, with praise and thanks offered vocally by the priests.  Then came the
sacrifice and the burnt offering, after which the prayer was offered.
Before hand, the purification rites were observed, usually a washing, and,
perhaps, a confessional and absolution such as we find appearing in the
Catholic Church at a later time, without authorization in the New Testament.
(Check the years of purification in India and Burma before fire-walking was
undertaken as a test of the final attainment of purity.)  In between times
there crept in the element of magical signs and formulas, censing and other
rotes.  One half of the world was constantly borrowing makeshifts from the
other half and adding them to their systems.

NOW THE KAHUNAS.  They danced as a preliminary, using several individuals,
and having rhythmic bodily movements, standing or sitting, wit drum and
rattle, and with chanting.  This was usual in the formal or temple worship,
not with the busy kahunas with their single client before them.  The dance
was the religious hula.  This word is a compound of the roots hu and la, the
first root meaning to rise up and overflow as water in a fountain (along
with a dozen other rather similar meanings) and the second root meaning
“light”, which is the symbol of the contact with the High Self, as “water”
(in the first root) is the symbol of the mana.  It will be noted that the
dance and its movement and chants and sounds accumulate and “overflow” as a
means of making contact with the High Self.  (In the temple worship the
needs of the entire tribe were being stressed, and prayer through a
“braiding of the cord” or uniting of the many aka threads to contact the
united High Selves as the Poe Aumakua or “Company of High Selves”. (More of
this work of praying together will come later as we take up the Telepathic
Mutual Healing Group activities of the HRAs.)

The prayer, which had been decided upon after much careful thought (and
often after asking the Aumakuas, mediumistically to a degree, (see cases in
SSBM), if the prayer was something that could be granted, (the prayer) was
delivered, vocally and with the command to the low self to deliver its
thought forms on a flow of the accumulated mana (overflow of water in the
fountain – symbol of the body) to the High Self.

It will be noted that the element of the SACRIFICE has not appeared as yet.

THE RITUAL PRAYER OF THE KAHUNA followed these steps:

1. Hoo(to make) anoano (seeds).  “Seeds” are the symbol of the thought forms
of the conditions which one wished built into the future so that it will
appear in due time as a REALITY in the present.  The thought forms act as a
mold, at least symbolically, which is used by the High Self in forming the
future as requested. The root ano has several meanings. Note their
significance. (a) An image or likeness (mold) of a thing. (b) To have or
take on a form or appearance. (c) To change or transform. (d) To change the
appearance of a thing. (e) To change the state of things. (Meanings taken
from the Hawaiian-English dictionaries.)

2. Hoo (to make or cause to be) mana (the vital force of the low self).
This word is translated “To worship”.  It means, from the roots, “To
accumulate more mana than is ordinarily present in the body.  We see that
after the thought forms are made by visualizing and otherwise building an
accurate and complete picture of what we desire, the next step is to
accumulate a surcharge of vital force. As this is accomplished, the thoughts
turn to the High Self, as the loving Parental Father-Mother Spirit, and with
gratitude and expectation. (“Worship” is to acknowledge or attribute “worth”
to.)

3. Mo-hai-hoo-mana: is a continuation of the accumulation of mana.  To hoo
mana is added mo-hai. (mo: “to strike, as with a spear”. This meaning is a
symbolic one as in kaa and ku, and indicated the act of making a quick and
exact and full contact with the High Self by means of mana sent along the
connecting aka thread to vitalize it and call the attention of the High
Self.  If the low self does not make this contact when we wish it to, we are
said “to miss the mark”.  The second root, hai, means to “sacrifice or
present a gift on an altar when this root is combined in the mohai form, but
by itself, hai” has a special meaning of “TO PUT SOMETHING INTO A DEFINITE
PLACE”, (my caps for emphasis), and this is the symbol of PLACING THE
THOUGHT FORMS EMBODYING THE PRAYER – the actual prayer essence – in the High
Self, (its aka body, supposedly, as all thought forms are stored in aka
bodies by all three of the selves of the man.)  The root idea of “altar” in
the Hawaiian is, basically, “a high place”, which is the symbol of the abode
of the High Self, as is the word for “sky”: lani or “heaven”.  It will be
seen that Huna throws a great light on the matter of the inward meaning, of
the idea of the sacrifice. The kahunas had but one word for this ritual of
giving, and that word (mo-hai-hoo-mana, given above) tells us in exact
detail, once we know the common symbols of the “SECRET”, just what was
sacrificed.  It was a gift of MANA, nothing more, nothing less.

4. In the ritual the contact is made with the High Self, as already
mentioned, and on the flow of consciously sent or “given” or “sacrificed”
(made sacred by the act of giving it to the High Self) mana, the thought
forms are sent as seeds drifting on a stream.  The kahunas often voiced
their prayer at this point, describing carefully, three times over in the
same words, this serving to make the thought forms embodying the pictured
future strong and clean-out.  (Care was taken not to contaminate the “mold”
by thoughts of the undesired present or of fear or doubt.

5. The prayer was a ritual performance that was made with swift directness
and ended very definitely so that extraneous thought forms NOT belonging to
the prayer would not also flow along the aka thread.  One did NOT pray
aimlessly with something else in the back of one’s mind.  One did not leave
a prayer dangling and drop off to sleep.  The kahuna said, in effect, “Here
are the thought forms of my prayer and the mana to use in constructing the
new future (also tear down the patterns or molds of the already constructed
future, which was not wanted).  I now hand over the prayer to you (“it takes
its flight”), I ask for the return flow of blessing and refreshing high mana
from you (“the rain of blessings”, and I now end my action and break the
contact. (“the kapu is lifted”).

6. The prayer-action-ritual, if expertly made and if enough mana had been
sent for the work, might result in an instant healing or in an immediate
answer to the prayer.  However, if the prayer involved much change of the
already crystallized future, the symbolic “seeds” (thought forms) were
“watered” daily, in other words, the thought forms were sent afresh with
additional mana daily, thus building strength into the thought forms as well
as supplying the needed mana for the continuation of the work (and for any
other work being done by the High Self, and which called for supplies of
mana of the low self kind as raw power to be changed into the high mana, the
latter being the miracle working force.)

In the above steps the business of clearing the guilt or other fixations
away, is not included.  This “unblocking of the path” is done before hand.

In the Hawaiian language there are three main words for “pray”.  The ones
used by the missionaries in translating the Bible into Hawaiian were:

Noi : “To beg”.
Pu-le: “To supplicate or pray”
The root pu gives the meaning of “To come forth, as words from the mouth.
(Or, as we would say, as thought forms with words.)  The root le is found in
the word lele, “To fly or jump upward”.  So from the two roots we see that
prayer as described in pule conforms to the idea of sending thought forms
flying to the High Self (on the mana flow.  The “SECRET” was preserved, it
would seem, but never putting all the eggs in one basket – by never putting
all the symbolic meanings in the roots of one word.)

The word for “prayer” probably favored by the kahunas, was wai-pa, but
because this means “To divide water” (as well as “pray”, and as its roots
give no other meaning, the missionaries, quite naturally selected the other
words.  However, this word is very important to us.  We know that water
(wai) is the Huna symbol of mana or vital force.  And, in the root pa we
have the opportunity to find out what the kahunas did with the mana when
they performed the prayer ritual.

The root pa (in wai-pa: pray) has over twenty variations of meaning.  I will
not stop to list these in the order given in the Hawaiian dictionary, but
will touch the highlights of significant meanings pertaining to our study.

1. A pair, or something done by a pair or by several. (This points to the
Huna belief that the High Self is a united pair of entities, male-female,
also the fact that several may engage with the High Selves in prayer.)

2. To divide. (In this case, to divide “water” or mana, giving the high Self
what it needs, or giving vital force to one who is ill, thought the hands
when laid on the body.

3. To STRIKE, or hit, as a spear, or to touch. (This is the symbol, which is
found in word after word, for making contact certainly and freely with the
High Self along the aka thread.)

4. To be barren, childless, or parched and wilted and dry.  (This is the
Huna symbol for the condition in which there is a lack of mana.  The
implication is that the creative effort to be made in the mechanism of
prayer demands a goodly supply of mana – the “water of life” (wai ola.)

THE TIME ELEMENT IN PRAYER is the great importance of Huna.  This is one of
the things that sets it still farther apart from other psycho-religious
systems.

In Christianity we find a very slight reference to the time element in
prayer in the instructions attributed to Jesus in the gospels.  Mark, 11:24
is the cause of an amazing modern warping of the TIME ELEMENT in prayer.
This passage related to the faith rather than time, but was made to turn on
time instead.  In the King James version we read, “What things soever ye
desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall receive.”
Note that the word “NOW” and the camel of faith, at one and the same time,
the proponents of the modern schools of affirmation and of decree, have
managed to convince a surprising number of us that we must believe that we
have already received the thing for which we ask in prayer.

Upon the correction of this misconception depends the question of whether
time is time or something else.  If it is not time, Huna is based on a false
premise, for in Huna the prayer is aimed at making a change within the
limitations of time and space. (The two ideas blend in mana-wa as a
time-apace complex.)

In order to try to follow the modern style of “Perfection here and now,” we
have had to admit that the thing or condition, be it dollars of health or
love, is NOT here NOW, otherwise we would not be praying for it.  We have to
explain that it is already created in answer to our prayers, and that we
have received it NOW, but we must invent some explanation to show why time
must be allowed to pass BEFORE the “here and now” aspect is apparent.

How much more logical and easy to go with one of the other modern schools,
and simply DENY that the thing we wish to rid ourselves, as poverty,
sickness and lack of love, exist.  Just call any condition that falls short
of the postulated perfection of the ALL GOOD, an error of thought in mortal
mind.

One if these bold stratagems, tosses time out of the window, the other uses
a play on words to toss physical being off the globe, if not out of the
universe.  Both strenuous efforts were made to obtain more of the element of
FAITH in the “here and now” handing down of the answer to prayer.  It has
been a middle of warped thinking.

From the Huna angle, the denial of the thing that is bothering us is futile
BECAUSE our low self – I like to call mine “George Unihipili” or just
“George” – is a very literal fellow indeed.  It is very difficult to
convince him that the broken leg is not real, or the pain, or the hunger.

More than that, we who are middle selves, are rather practical and common
sense about almost everything but politics, love and our religion.  WE,
also, find it difficult to believe that the broken bone is healed “here and
now” or that the next payment on the income tax is just “error” and does not
exist.

Of course, there is nothing against your right to affirm “Eternal life, here
and now,” of you happen to be inclined to do so--- but be sure to go back
over the fence to the side opposite to Huna when you affirm. (I am permitted
to give this advice, because I once made that affirmation daily for all of a
month.)

The importance of keeping your George from deciding that you are talking
through your hat, is that he is the one whom you have to convince that what
you ask him to do in the prayer ritual is REASONABLE.  Consider what happens
when we have a sense of guilt.  The prayer falls short of the mark because
George is ashamed of himself and his man, and refuses to enter the presence
of the High Self.  And the reason the middle self does not pray, under such
conditions, is that it also refuses to enter the Presence with soiled hands
and heart.

In the first year Huna experimentation we have found that it took just as
much time to clear out accumulations of dogmas and misconceptions as it did
to replace them with a corresponding amount of Huna.  And every day some new
absurdity bobs up to be dealt with.

We can hardly unlearn fast enough.  Each day brings new ideas as we read,
and the less valid they are, the more beautifully they are dressed and
worded to make them seem utterly true – until we examine the first premise
upon which the statements are based.  Let me quote from Ralph Waldo Trine.

“Prayer, as every act of devotion, brings us into an ever greater conscious
harmony with the Infinite…….for it is this harmony which brings all other
things.  Prayer is the souls desire, and thus is its own answer, as the
sincere desire is made active and accompanied by faith sooner or later gives
place to realization; for faith is an invisible and invincible magnet, and
attracts to itself whatever it fervently desires and calmly and persistently
expects.  This is absolute…..” “….the fault, the failure, lies not in the
law but in ourselves.”

This sounds wonderful.  When I first read it, back in 1908, I gave my own
meanings to his “Infinite”, his “harmony, realization”, and even his
“magnet”.  It was not clear to me how “faith” and “desire” alone could
produce such marvels, but I liked the ideas.  They sounded like ultimate
authority.  (It was some years before I made the sad discovery that
‘Authorities” never agree, and that if one is correct, the other 9,999,999
must be wrong.  I never found the one that was right, unless, perchance, it
is the blanket one-authority to be found in Huna.)  If, like myself, you
can’t figure out how “faith” can “fervently desire and calmly and
persistently expect”, or how even “desire” might do this, just tell yourself
that you must not be too critical of the kind of writing.  It still sounds
grand and true and lofty.  Besides, just think what Trine could have done if
he had known Huna!

WHAT WE NEED TO LEARN is just how to make the thought forms of the prayer,
once we have decided on what we wish built into the future; just how to
accumulate a surcharge of mana; just how to cause the low self to make
contact along the aka thread with the High Self and send the thought forms
on a flow of mana to the Aumakua; just how to have “faith”; just how to end
the prayer action; and how long the continue the repetition of the prayer
action. (These are the basic parts of the mechanism, but there are many more
small points to be considered later on.)  IN ADDITION TO THIS we need to
learn how to remove guilt, doubt, unworthiness and similar feelings,
convictions and fixations, or to steer a course around them, and so keep
clear of “blocking” elements in the “path” of communication with the High
Self.  This work with the blockings begins before the prayer action.

A letter came to me one day, which may express the feeling of most of us at
this point.  In it a new HRA wrote, “It looks so terribly complicated that I
do not think that I’ll ever be able to learn to make a prayer like the
kahunas did.  I guess I’ll just have to content myself with the study of
Huna, and keep on praying in the less difficult way, even if I do almost
never get results.”

As a matter of fact, the ordinary and simple prayer contains a little of
each of the elements of the Huna prayer ritual.  We decide what we will ask
for, we reach out mentally to God or some Universal or Infinite (and so
contact the High Self).  We voice our prayer aloud or silently, and if we
feel emotionally moved by desire, love or the urge to worship, the mana
flows and the thought forms are carried along the aka thread to the High
Self.  We say “Amen” and bring the prayer to a close.  While the low self is
not expert at doing its part in the work, it sometimes does well, even if
many times it does not react as we might wish it to do.

For this simple prayer work, a person in good health should have a constant
supply of mana in their body so that there is enough and to spare to use to
send the thought forms to the High Self and to donate a supply for use in
rebuilding the future.  The rebuilding may be slower than when a very large
supply is given, but this is something still to be experimentally
determined.

The way the kahunas accumulated a surcharge of mana was to command the low
self to start accumulating.  A picture was held in mind (as one way of doing
it) for the correct physical stimulus.  This was the picture of the body
filling with vital force, as a fountain, until full overflowing.  Mana, when
accumulated, or when flowing, often causes a tingling or prickling sensation
in the limbs or body proper.  (The return flow of High Mana, called the
“rain of blessings” by the kahunas, and always requested as a part of the
prayer ending, seems frequently to cause a tingling in the region of the
base of the spine.)

Once you have a good understanding of the Huna prayer mechanism, you will,
because you have it in mind, automatically begin to train the low self to
conform to the pattern.  Its skill in making contact with the High Self (and
its willingness to respond to our desire or order) will grow, as will its
natural ability to accumulate mana. You can now begin practice.  Fine points
are to follow.

Dear Friend and Huna Research Associate:

It is a great pleasure to begin work with you as you stand ready to put a
shoulder to the wheel and do what you can to help get the ancient Huna
system back into full working order.

As you must know, the very fact that you can have claimed a part in this
work sets you off as one in a thousand. Only a very few are able to stand on
their own feet and make a calm study of what seems to be contrary religious
or psychological beliefs. The vast majority of mankind become frozen
mentally into the mold of one religion or other, or of one scientific
approach. And, once their minds are set in those molds, they become blind
and even violently antagonistic to all that does not agree.

This holds for politics as well as religion. It holds for race prejudices,
and even schools of scientific thought. Psychologists are a fine example of
blindness in high places. They fought the concept of the "subconscious" and
they fight the facts of psychic science just as bitterly today as they did
twenty-five years ago.

I therefore congratulate you most heartily on being in the fold, so to
speak, and able to weigh the materials of Huna calmly and without strange
emotional flare of angry rejection which marks nearly every one – without
that flare-up that marks the intellectually childish and immature, even when
they are most highly educated.

Of course, you will have accumulated a knowledge of certain materials in the
psycho-religious field in which we delve. You will have found certain
beliefs and theories more reasonable, more logical or more valuable to you,
than certain others. That is as it should be. However, it will be a simple
matter for one who has come this far through clear-seeing, to understand
that we are now taking up a quiet and entirely impersonal study of what the
kahunas of ancient time and of modern Polynesia believed. Because the
kahunas believed in this or that – which we nay not wish to accept without
much more study and testing for plausability and workability – is no reason
at all for one of us to become even faintly upset. We each have the rare
ability to study Huna as a thing apart from our already accumulated
findings, otherwise we would not be HRAs. Instead, we would be on the
outside, possibly shouting hotly, "The old time religion is good enough for
me," (and willing to kick the shins of all for whom it is not "good
enough".)

You will smile understanding when I, in my endeavor to coach you in your
part of the experimental project with Huna, state things as fact, for you
will know that I do this to make simpler the presentation of what I think
the kahunas considered facts – but which may not turn out to be facts at
all. In acting as coach, I presume to do so because I have studied Huna
longer and more fully, which not because I desire to have you cease to be
calm judge of all the materials which we will handle together and try to
evaluate (my own extra-Huna conclusions and tentatives not excepted).

What most of our friends will be unable to understand, but what we each
know, is that we are determined to find the truth, and at any price. If we
have to make over all our most loved dogmas and closely held convictions, we
will do it. We are not unique in this search. A few of the clear-seeing
have, down the centuries, asked for the Truth at any price, and, like them,
we stand ready to sacrifice all if the familiar landmarks, if we find it
necessary, and to dare strange approaches to the jungle-covered realms of
mind and Being.

Suggested Approach to Huna in the First Step.

Our approach to the experimental phase of the 72 year old investigation of
the ancient HUNA SYSTEM of the Polynesians (and their pre-Egyptian
ancestors), is not a matter of following a broad road which has been well
traveled. It is hacking a narrow path through the jungle of a new world.

I have asked you, as my friend of clear vision, to help me cut into this
jungle because your arm may be stronger than mine, psychically or mentally
or spiritually speaking – perhaps stronger than any of the arms now raised
to cut new paths back to the lost LIGHT.

You will have the advantage of what we, your fellow Huna Research
Associates, have learned in the time that has elapsed since we began our
work. Acting as the director and gatherer of reports on efforts, I pass on
to you all that we have learned thus far – all we have hoped for, all of our
aspirations and inspirations. In passing on to you our findings, we will
expect you to watch for the things we have overlooked and the mistakes we
have made. Each of us, as the Torch is passed to him in this race against
the World Night, must do his best to raise it a little higher before the
darkening world. Make this the time in your life when you really give all
you have of talent, of understanding, of courage and faith, to one glorious
effort to win back for the world the greatest blessing which can be imagined
in out most inspired moments. YOU may be the one to find the path to the
ancient TRUE LIGHT that has been lost.

THE HUNA THEORIES WHICH WE ARE TESTING, as a beginning, are easy to grasp.
They are much like those with which we are familiar in the older and newer
religions which we are current at this time. The chief difference lies in
the fact that several things have been added to the more common methods of
obtaining things by prayer to a Higher Intelligence.

1. The preparation for the act of praying is different in that careful
consideration must be given to the NEW CONDITIONS which we wish brought
about. In Huna the prayer is not made for the momentary need so much as for
the needs of all the life ahead. Instead of drifting, we take as much time
as is needed, and make up our minds in so far as is possible, EXACTLY what
we wish the future to hold for us. We all will ask for health, happiness and
prosperity, of course, but we must not forget to include service to others.
There is much that is helpful in the ideals of the kahunas. In our text,
SECRET SCIENCE BEHIND MIRACLES, (daily readings from which we are needed to
help one absorb the Huna point of view and impress it on the low self) page
188, 4th paragraph, we read:

"The kahunas taught that there was an ideal condition to which the
individual might aspire. It was a condition in which the aid and guidance of
the High Self was requested, received, and then acted upon. The one rule of
life that must be obeyed was that we should do nothing to hurt another,
unjustly. For those more advanced, the rule included loving service. Love
can unite men and enable them to do great works for the goof of all. Hate
and fear can unite men only for war and destruction."

In CASE 29, beginning on page 336 of SSBM, will be found an excellent
presentation of the need for and the method of deciding what one’s future is
to be. A careful review of this case is urged.

THE THEORY on this point is that we must decide on our future, then plan it
in as much detail as we can. That done, we set about taking the next step,
which we may call:

2. The second step. This is to build a complete set of thought forms of the
new future, through visualization and with the use of a physical stimulus to
impress the low (subconscious or unihipili) self.

The third step is to accumulate a sufficient surcharge of vital force, or
the low mana of the kahunas, to send the newly created thought forms along
the invisible aka thread of connection, to the High Self.

The fourth step is the follow up in which we daily review and strengthen the
visualized future embodied in our thought and forms, and daily present them
anew with a fresh supply of vital force to be used by the High Self, and its
associate High Selves – the Poe Aumakua – to do what the kahunas symbolized
as "grow the seeds (thought forms) by the sprinkling them with water (mana),
until they bear fruit as actual conditions as the future becomes the
present".

As a part of the work of taking these steps successfully, one endeavors to
remove one’s guilt or other hindering fixations.

Those, in brief, are the steps to be taken in our experimental efforts to
use the "High Magic". We begin with them because they include the basic
things to be learned in the "low magic".

THE NEW PART OF THESE METHODS needs to be stressed at this point, not the
part with which most of us are familiar. We sometimes hear the important
remark, "But all this is old stuff!"

The long-term scope of prayer and the more careful preparation is new.

The use of visualization is familiar in New Thought and related systems.

The use of visualization to create consciously a set of thought forms to act
as molds for the materialization of desired future event, is slightly
touched on in Theosophy, but I new in handling and intention.

The request to the Higher Self, asking that the thought forms to be used to
create for us a new and more desirable future is now.

The accumulation of extra vital force and to sending of it to the High Self
to be used in the creation of the desired future is now.

The invisible aka thread connects us with the High Self is now, but a
slightly similar mechanism to connect the conscious part of the man to the
physical body, when out of it as in astral travel or unconsciousness, is
familiar to us as the "silver cord" of Theosophy.

The use of flow of low mana to carry the thought forms telepathically to the
High Self, is now. (And of the greatest importance.)

The fact that the aka thread runs between the aka or "shadowy" body of the
low self and the High Self, and that it is the ONE AND ONLY means of contact
between the lower man and his High Self, is not only NEW, but is
revolutionary in the psycho-religious thinking of this century. It gives us,
at last, an explanation of WHY the usual vocal prayer made by the conscious
mind or middle self, gets no answer. (The low self is not brought into play
and the telepathic sending of the prayer is missing, to say nothing of a
supplying of the needed vital force to be used by the High Self.)

There are a number of other new and vital points which we are borrowing from
the kahunas and testing for ourselves, but they need not be listed here as
some are slightly complicates for swift notation.


If this revealing list of new elements seems a little frightening, now that
it has been stressed, the assurance can be given that a daily study of SSBM
and of these papers will soon make everything simple enough. In making the
experimental approach to Huna, one must allow time for absorbing the new and
readjusting the old concepts. The confusing new terms will soon be learned.

For the purpose of this first set of suggestions concerning your approach to
Huna through experiment and practice, only the first of the four steps just
given need be considered. Taking that first step is something that should
not be hurried.

There are several angles to be studied with care before deciding on the
general outline of the future you will begin to work to build. I do not know
what your particular study background in the psycho-religious field has
been, but because you will later, in all probability, be called on to
explain these points to those to whom you may introduce Huna, no harm will
be done by taking up points that cover a fairly wide part of the common
beliefs and theories.

FOR WHAT MAY WE PRAY?
This question was made the title of an article written for N. Meade Layne’s
"Flying Roll", and later reprinted in his "Round Robin", (a magazine of
great general interest to students in this field). I will touch the high
points of the article here.

A student who leans to the philosophies of India, asked, "Is it wise to
promise people material gains as a result of, or to induce spiritual
endeavor? To me there seems a great danger in this approach, which is
contrary to all true occultism and truly ‘higher magic’ …."

This question brings up one of the rock-bottom theories upon which in
religion is built, but which psychic science and the semi-science of
psychology hardly touches.

It is, in essence the question that has plagued mortals since the dawn of
modern times, and which has been answered in all terms, from those of
hopeless materialism to those of the most impractical and bewildered
idealists. It is the question of, "WHY ARE WE HERE?"

Now, if you have favored beliefs or tentative conclusions drawn from your
other studies, put them on the other side of the fence where they will not
come into the present discussion and get their toes trampled. We are going
to begin from scratch and make a cool and clear-eyed survey of the materials
in this part of the field. In other words, we will wash the slates so that
we can better begin a new set of calculations and draw a better picture of
the future about to be decided upon. Let me quote from the article just
mentioned.

"So intermingled in the West are the dogmas and ideals of Christianity and
of religious systems in India (and elsewhere), that ……in the matter of
praying for help to a Superior Intelligence, we find ourselves confronted by
two warring factions. One faction demands that we pray for nothing but
spiritual enlightenment. The other demands that we also pray for "our daily
bread".

"We are all familiar with the ideas current in India, where it is often
believed that a man must reincarnate as many times as there are grains of
sand by the sea, and in the process must wear out an immensity of karmic
debts. To escape from this (endless torture of forced living) Wheel of Life,
the process of making fresh karma, good or bad, must be stopped. This is to
be accomplished by ceasing to desire or to strive for any material thing or
condition. One must even cease to desire to escape from the Wheel, or to
attain union with God.

"In this system the only grounds for believing any part of the dogmas, lie
in the fact that some individuals seem to recall former incarnations, and in
a few cases children have correctly recalled memories of recent incarnation
– the memories proving correct when checked, or sufficiently correct to give
general proof of reincarnation for a single return. This, on the other hand,
is not proof the validity of reincarnation impressions covering a great
number of past lives." (End direct quote and go on to transcription of
article.)

As to the doctrine of karma, or even the Christian, "As ye sow, so shall ye
reap," this idea is based on incomplete observation. It is true that from
wheat as a seed, one reaps wheat. But to decide that a wheat seed and the
act of cheating a stranger, bring identically exact returns, is a fine
example of the usual PLAY ON WORDS that makes a proposition sound logical
and complete when it is NOT.

Even the dullest observer may see the cheat "flourish as the green bay
tree". All through nature the strong animal robs the weak, the big fish eats
the little ones, and there is no trace of "karmic retribution". DEEDS AND
SEEDS are not identical. The ancients, when formulating the doctrine of
karma, undoubtedly ran into this snag, for they tied karma and reincarnation
together in a tight package.

They fell back on the unproven assertion (a guess, like many other guesses
which we must wipe off to get our clean slate) that if the chat was not
punished in this life, he would be in some other. In this way the human idea
of what makes exact justice was forced by heroic measures to fit what was
seen on every hand in nature – and what in no way fitted man-made ideals of
justice.

In every system of psycho-religious thought, we see some amazing structure
built on a FIRST PREMISE, which, if accepted, seems to lead with great logic
to the conclusions which follow. It is the first assumption that we are now
examining as we inspect the various techniques which are supposed to tell us
why we are here and for what we are entitled to pray.

If we depend on "revealed" knowledge as in most bibles of religion, we at
once see that something is badly wrong. The ASSUMPTIONS of the different
"revealed" systems DO NOT MATCH. They are sharply contradictory as a rule.
Even the idea that there are Higher Beings (in terms of consciousness), is
an assumption. However, it is an assumption so widely spread and apparently
so based on the fact of often-answered prayer, that we are forced to accept
it in one form or another, as Huna does, otherwise we would be forced to
drop the element of religion from our psycho-religious concepts and studies.
In passing, we do well to note that our use of "logic" is a very unreliable
tool with which to measure the materials with which we are dealing. The
doctrine of karma and reincarnation are beautifully logical, but ONLY if we
do not look too closely at the first premise. The same weakness is disclosed
in every system in which the idea of a Supreme Intelligence is well
developed.

Take the example of assuming that God MUST be the sum total of all created
things. It seems a good assumption, but then it follows, with terrible
logic, that there is nothing outside of God and that He must, therefore, be
ALL THERE IS. It follows that the evil and injustice we see on all sides,
and the sickness, poverty and woe, are either a part of God, or that our
first conclusion is wrong. To keep in step with our human idea (not
nature’s) that God could not be just or even kind, if He allowed bad things
to exist as part of His All-Being, we have to revise the first premise and
make a Devil or consider all undesirable things illusions created by the
improper thinking of "mortal mind". Or we can have "original sin" or any one
of the painfully evolved patches offered to make the first assumptions hold
water.

The Huna way was to play safe and decide that the human mind cannot
understand matters relating to the levels of consciousness above our own –
thus allowing the basic premise of a Higher level (or levels) of
Consciousness to stand.

The professors in many of our classes in theology elect to remain blind to
the insecure ground upon which religion-magical systems have been built. At
Columbia University religion has been defined by one of the professors as,
"Worship of a superior Entity without thought of any form of reward for such
worship." It is pointed out that when a reward is expected, be it salvation
and a future life in heaven, or be it one’s "daily bread", that mixes MAGIC
with religion.

Man is incurably the idealist, even if he usually prefers to talk of his
ideals of conduct and life instead of living them. Pure religion, without
the magical element of prayer, is the farthest of human imagination as
applied to idealism. It embodies the ultimate in loving and unselfish
worship, and in unselfish service of other men as a further act of worship.
It embodies the ultimate dream of entire desirelessness and chastity of body
and thoughts. It is too bad that it is so utterly impractical and out of
keeping with the demands of life as made on each of us by our surroundings
and by our physical and mental NECESSITIES. If we all became desireless and
began to give ALL our time to the selfless worship of the God Concept, we
would have no humanity after as long a time as it takes to starve to death.
India and Mongolia are a sorry enough example, and only a portion of their
citizens put on the yellow robes and take up the begging bowl.

To be practical – as most of us are, fortunately – we must accept life as we
find it and conclude that whatever Creator there mat be, He was wise enough
to make man pretty much as he wanted him to be and in pretty much the
surroundings which were best for him. If we take this stand, we then have
little trouble in becoming practical in the matter of mixing our religion
with magic. We admit that we need and DESIRE many things to live normal
lives. We have found that prayer to a Higher Intelligence is a practical
thing in so far as we know how to pray correctly, and we go on praying for
what we need – for what we need help in getting for ourselves, or our
families and friends – even for the world.

This brings us back to the question of WHY ARE WE HERE? It appears that we
are here to live normal lives and learn what we may while living them. We
may safely guess that we are evolving in one way or another at the same
time, but we CANNOT safely decide to throw normal living to the winds and
give all our time and efforts to trying to force or speed up the supposed
process of evolution, be this a growth of body, or growth of the "solves"
which may be ours.

It follows that, if we are correct in praying for swifter growth in mind or
in our vague "spirit", we are equally right in praying for bodily growth or
normalcy. Continuing with our deductions we may decide that there is no
logical limit to what we may be permitted to ask for. Logically, we may
argue that if we may ask for and get a small amount of healing or
prosperity, we can, by the same token, ask for a limitless amount of health
and wealth. We might ask to be given the earth….. But again we see that
something must be wrong with LOGIC or our basic assumption.

This leaves us in the same old tangle that has confronted our thinking for
centuries. Again we are found to invent an excuse, and make a patch to get
our proposition to hold water. We suggest that the reason we can’t get the
full healing or the earth, is that we are not worthy, or that it is our
karma to be ill and poor, or that one must ask first for the "kingdom of
God…" etc. Or we may decide that our prayers are improperly made, or that we
need rituals and chants and formulas in our use of magic. Or, we may just
decide that we have no criterion to use to judge the conflicting assumptions
and clamorous dogmas – and that we had better wash our slates of them all.

Fortunately, we can turn to Huna, old as it is, for help on this point.

In looking to Huna for an answer to the question of, FOR WHAT MAY PRAY?, we,
as Huna Research Associates, must keep in mind the fact that we have
rediscovered the ancient SECRET, and that we are now testing what we know of
it to see if it will work. We do not have to accept the basic assumption or
following dogmas of Huna. It is enough that we consider them quietly and
accept them as materials upon which we base our experimentation.

After agreeing to begin work under the assumption that there is a High Self
and that it is the next level of consciousness above the conscious mind part
of us, and that it can be appealed to by proper prayer, we are ready to ask
what light the kahunas threw on our problem.

The kahunas were simple men, and their system reflects that same simplicity
and practicality. They offer us no flights into the idealism of which we
have cleared our slates. Their was the normal condition.

1. Normal health.
2. Normal supply of the necessities of life.
3. Normal relations between the three selves in the man – the low self,
middle self and High Self. (And if relations with still higher Beings were
required, the High Self would know what to do about that requirement.)

For the kahunas, the normal condition was the happy one. Love and
helpfulness and the observance of the rule of non-hurt to others, with free
normal intercourse between the three selves, made for the ideal of the
NORMAL.

They also recognized the fact that the three selves of man were of different
levels of consciousness and probably of growth and development. What was
right and just for the low self, living as it does in the animal body, may
not be right and just for the more advanced middle self and for the wiser
High Self.

1. The low self was to be taught not to hurt others. (To be trained away
from the animal way of the strong eating the weak.).
2. The middle self was to go a step beyond the rule of non-hurt, and learn
to live and work helpfully with others.
3. The high Self was, supposedly, advanced to the point where loving and
unselfish service is the rule of being.

In the light of these concepts, we may safely, in our experimental use of
prayer after the Huna fashion, and using the Huna mechanism, ask for
anything that is normal and good for us and those around us. We MAY NOT ask
for anything, the granting of which would violate the rules of their three
selves and their levels of life and growth. That is, violate the rule of
non-hurt, of helpful cooperation in family and group life, or of loving and
unselfish service of others. We must live JUSTLY, as we, the middle selves,
conceive justice, NOT as the low self and its animal companions of land and
sea conceive it in that the strong devour the weak.

If we look at the ideals expressed in action in the lower forms of life
which seem to be guided by some Higher Intelligence, we can see that helpful
cooperation is good. It has been demonstrated in ant and bee. We can see
that love and unselfish service, and gentle sympathy and pity are also good.
The dog and cat mothers demonstrate these ideals and more. The path is not
wide at his point, but it is very straight.

In observing what nature has to tell us, we note also that on the animal
level the other cheek is not turned. Nip is returned for nip. It is the
middle self that learns the benefits gained from turning the other cheek, at
times.

In what we call "religion", an amazing amount of common sense has been used
despite the fact that an even more amazing amount of impractical idealism
has been preached. In Huna we have a return to the common sense with most of
the impractical idealism left out.

Since the work of testing Huna has begun, a number of question have come up
as to what should be prayed for, or, to put it into Huna terms, should be
decided upon and built into the future, either as a long-time building, or
as a building for immediate needs.

Most questions should be answered by applying common sense. Only a few made
the mistake of deciding to ask for the moon. The majority included in their
picture of the future the wider canvas of world peace and betterment, with
themselves and their home and families and friends happily set in the midst.

Where many had trouble in seeing clearly, was the situation in which the
free will of a relative or close associate was involved. For instance, a
mother might not wish her son to marry a certain girl, or a girl might wish
to pray that a certain man would fall in love with her and marry her. Or a
man might wish to cause a change in his wife’s attitude toward him, or in a
son who drank too much, or a daughter who was wayward.

In making the decision concerning what things we will strive to have built
into our future, we must keep always in mind the fact that when it comes to
changes which others must share with us, we must not impose our will on
them.

The kahunas apparently thought that the matter of minding one’s own affairs
was most important. The Aumakuas were called, "The Utterly Trustworthy
Parental Spirits", and they seem to have been "trustworthy" in as much as
they could be trusted NOT to take from the middle self its FREE WILL.
Blunder as it may, the middle self of each of us is to be allowed to learn
its own way. The only time that thew High Self is allowed (by what
mysterious Power, we do not know) to take a hand in the affairs of the
middle self man is when ASKED TO DO SO.

This rule seems to hold to a lesser degree for us on our level of
consciousness and life. We may force the children and the criminal and
insane to obey our dictates, but not the normal adult.

Where another’s acts affect our lives, we are within our rights in asking
that any bad affects of the association be changed. We can safely picture
ourselves in the future freed from the bad effects. We may ask that others
be guided and helped to better ways and better conditions, especially if we
stand ready to help in what ways we can without trying to impose our will on
the one helped.

The group and the family represent a grouping of the High Selves of each
individual, these being an extensive as the group and known to the kahunas
as the Poe Aumakua, or "Assemblage or Company of Aumakuas". One who offers
to help the person, over whom an Aumakua stands as Guardian, undoubtedly may
ask help from the Guardian. The parents may appeal for the help of the
several Aumakuas of themselves and members of the family. Collective work
seems to multiply the force, which is brought to bear on problems involving
groups.

To ask anything that is hurtful to another is to set the Guardian of that
person against you. (Also, possibly the spirit friends of the injured
person.)

In trying to decide what we wish to begin building into our future, we may
begin by asking for guidance and inviting our High Selves to take a hand in
our affairs.

Another strange fact appeared as the experimental work got under way. Many
of us discovered that we had been drifting. We had been taking things as
they came, and had no definite ends or aims beyond the little plans for the
immediate future. Our plans for the years farther ahead were either lacking
or were so misty and subject to the change of our whims as to count hardly
at all.

Some of us found it difficult to think of ourselves, as we might be ten or
twenty years later. Some found that hey were inwardly trying to go back to
happier days instead of work toward happier days in the future. Some could
hardly free the responsibility of deciding on a future and working toward
it. The tendency to mark time and drift was greater then had been expected.

After a number had decided what they wanted to do, to have, and to become,
the old habits of drifting had to be fought. A letter came which said, "It
is so easy to slip back into the old way of living aimlessly…… and yesterday
I found four correspondence course in the garret, none of which any member
of the family has more than half finished…."

With some of us the need for making changes on our lives has been great
enough to keep us steadily at work. With others it has happened that at the
moment everything seemed good enough. In the latter case, the experimental
work would be "an ounce of prevention" instead of the "cure". To keep things
good enough, it is safe to set the face firmly toward a similar future, lest
worse befall. In any event, one can do his part in helping build a better
world condition in which there is peace and understanding.

Turn to Chapter IX of SSBM at this point and read it. Read the proofs I have
assembled to show that the kahunas were right in thinking that the future of
each of us is sufficiently fixed in advance to be seen through the various
mechanisms of presentation. Study carefully page 168 under the heading of,
MAKING OF THE FUTURE, and get familiar with the Huna teaching that our
future are almost automatically (because of the free will) formed for us in
advance from the thoughts we think – from our plans, hoped, fears, etc., and
from the plans, hopes, fears and so on of our close associates.

Look back over your life and see the many times when you could have done
much better had you been planning carefully and had you been building
steadily in one direction instead of allowing yourself to be moved hither
and yon by passing influences. Try to benefit by past experiences in
deciding on the future.

For those of us who cannot help loving the lofty ideals of unselfish
service, the way ahead is especially bright, my friend, W.R. Stewart, who
found kahunas in North Africa, as I related in my book, was an idealist of
this type. He wrote that he had discovered that when his prayer-actions
included aid for others, they got faster and far more generous answers from
the High Selves. At the shrine at Lourdes, we recall, the ones most often
and most miraculously healed are those who have come to pray for others
rather then for themselves. Go out of your way to help in any way the most
unloved and unworthy and you win the gratitude of the High Selves who yearn
endlessly over them but who are not permitted to help except in certain
small ways. Make ten such friends in high places and you have protection and
help for the asking. Stand ready to do what you can to help the world, and
you have the star of the Great Company of Aumakuas. But you must be very
sincere. Service is not to be taken lightly. It is on of the take- withable
things, which we carry with us when we go on. It is what we must use to
build any enduring monument to our memories. After the death of W.R. Stewart
I received a stained note from his old chairwoman to tell me sad news. It
ended wit the words, "He was such a kind man." What an epitaph for a
monument which will never be raised over the grave of one who would wish
only for such remembrance….. Plan also to Serve as you can.

DECIDING ON A NEW FUTURE is a very serious business, but it is laughably
like going to select a new suit. One studies the lives of friends. One tries
to remember the most worth while lives of great men and women. One tries to
imagine oneself as like this or that personage.

Laughable or not, this is the correct way to find a future that will fit.
Imagine one, then try it on. Look at yourself in the mental mirror and get
the effect. Wear it for a time – become the person you imagine and project
yourself into that "suit" long enough to see how you like it. See if you can
be happy and comfortable in it for minute on end.

Take an example. Suppose you think of being a great artist, author or
teacher. Picture yourself as such, then go on past the peak of the thrill of
triumphant attainment, and see whether the simple fact of BEING successful
in the chosen line is, in itself, enough to make effort to become THAT worth
while. After reading SSBM you may be impressed with the dream of becoming a
great healer. If so, pretend that you have become THAT. Look around your
imagination and see your office, or lack of one. See the waiting room filled
with charming patients, or see a long line of poor and degraded patients
moving slowly past you as you sit at a small table in a dusty yard – as
Slatter used to sit fifty years ago. Or see a mixed crowd in a waiting room
or line. See whether that Service would make you happiest of all.

There is a room in the world for lives of every kind. Be practical. Above
all be honest with yourself. If you find that you are uneasy in a velvet
suit trimmed with gold braid, or in a doctor’s smock, lay them aside. Make
your own choice. Take all the time you need. Make notes if you will, and
change them over and over until you are satisfied. If you cannot decide on
many points, decide on a few and add others later, when you are well into
your building experiment. Rome was not built in a day, but stone by stone.

If you have a very dear, very understanding, and very trusted friend, you
may talk over the matter many times with them. But be warned, if you talk
with your friends at random, particularly if they are not as well acquainted
with Huna as you are, they will build such a wall of doubt, laughter and
confusion around you that you will never be able to make up your mind.
Instead, you will probably give up the attempt entirely.

Another word of warning from the HRAs collective experience up to now. If
you have rushed into Huna after a hurried reading of SSBM, and primarily
because you have a problem which MUST be met swiftly, with absolute
certainty, and in a certain set way, you had better try to solve that
particular problem in some other way, and reserve your approach to Huna for
matters to which you can take more time. A situation which has been building
in your future for a long time is often completely broken down and
completely replaced in a very short time, particularly by a beginner. Don’t
bank on a miracle. We are in the experimental stage. While some splendid
results have already been obtained, we have not finished our work and cannot
as yet obtain miraculous or instant results.

While there is a certain amount of help that may be given, once you have
decided on at least the major parts of your future and have reported in and
asked for that help, the final results depend largely on you and your
ability to follow through the necessary period of practice and
self-training. Now and then someone is healed or helped who does not know
that help has been asked for them in the Huna fashion. Sometimes an HRA is
aided who only sits with folded hands, expectantly waiting. But, as a rule,
each of us rises or falls according to the drive behind the urge or the
need.

The Telepathic Mutual Healing Group began its work in 1948 under the
direction of Max Freedom Long. It consists of a small group of Huna Research

They Laughed
When James Started Praying for Rain...

Breath and Spirit

A Notable Reprint from HRA Bulletin 53.7-8 (April 15, 1951)

A QUESTION ABOUT BREATH AND SPIRIT came in by letter recently,
with the note that Glenn Clark, famed for his "Camps Farthest
Out" movement, advocated special breathing and a spiritual
exercise in connection with prayer. "What does Huna say?" asks
the letter.

In early Christianity the word for breath and for spirit had the
same roots and a common meaning. Breath was life, and with it
gone the spirit was supposed to have departed. The word "soul"
was a later word for "spirit," borrowed from the Middle English
and of the North European languages rather than the Greek or
Latin. It is more like the "self" in concept, while "spirit" has
more of the element of the life force or mana. The Egyptian word
"ba" for "shadow" is pointed out in the dictionaries as similar
and earlier than the Greek and Latin concepts, and as coloring
the Christian idea of the self in man. In Huna we have the "ba" in its
original form as "ka," and with the elided vowel "a," lost in translating
the glyphs of Egypt, we have our "aka" or shadowy body, which Huna tells us
is not the self but just the invisible body used by the self both in and out
of life in the physical body. (Each of the three selves has its own aka
body.)

The warped knowledge of Huna which was borrowed by the Jews and
later by Christianity remains a tangle of muddled concepts until
one applies Huna and restores order. In Fenton's translation of
the Bible (Ferrar Fenton, "The Holy Bible in Modern English," Adam & Charles
Black: London, 1903. Reprinted in larger type by Destiny Publishers:
Merrimac, MA, 1966.)we get in Genesis the statement that God rocked the
surface of the waters with His breath before creating light. In Huna we have
three corresponding secret meanings hidden behind the symbols. The "water"
is mana. The "breath" is the "shadowy body" or aka body of all things -- the
outline or mold. The "light" is the consciousness or selfness or soul.
Consider the "breath" in more detail.

In Hawaiian, the language used in our Huna study, there are
three words for "breath" or "breathe."

EA: To enter into. To raise or lift up, as water rises up (as in
a fountain -- symbol we use in accumulating mana surcharge).
Spirit, vital breath, breath of life, life itself.

AHO: The breath or natural breathing. A cord of line. ("Aha" also
means cord, and is better to use than to say "aka thread,"
although we have become accustomed in HRA to the latter. It is
significant to find the word "aho" with a double meaning
indicating a direct connection with the connecting thread and
breathing. The significance would appear to be that the
accumulating of mana or putting it to use, entails the use of
the breath in one way or another. Hidden under the symbol we see
the "entity" or consciousness in some form, directing the
creation of the earth or of some small thought-form in our
prayer-actions.

HA: To breathe. To breathe with some exertion, (a stronger act
of breathing than indicated in the word "hanu," which is another
word for natural breathing.) A trough for water to run through,
(water standing for mana, this suggests the possibility of
causing mana to flow in definite directions by the use of a
trough -- breathing.) (Remember that soul and spirit are
"unihipili" and "uhane" and the "aumakua.")

Genesis (Fenton) continues:  "God then said, 'Let Us make men
under Our Shadow....So God created men under His Own Shadow,
creating them in the Shadow of God...."  Note that careful
translation replaces the word "image."  This takes us directly
back to the Egyptian and still farther back to Huna, so that we
find it stressed in the account of the creation that the shadowy
body or "aka" was used as the mold into which man was cast in the
material body.

The process was used in the same identical way in the creative
work of the kahuna and the account of the "Creation" may well be
a veil to conceal the Huna secret meaning. To use Huna methods
of creating we move the waters, or mana, we breathe as a part of
controlling and accumulating and sending mana,  ("ea", from the
roots means, E: to enter, and A: to burn. We moderns say that we
breathe in air and use it to burn or oxidize food elements in
the blood stream.) The symbol of breath in "ea" and "aho" give us
the "life force" and the mold of the shadowy or "aka" body. "God"
symbolizes the intelligence (the selves of Huna) setting the
creative process in motion and directing it, step by step, as in
the "six days" taken for the creation of the world.

In the New Testament account as we now have it, Jesus returns in
full materialized form after his death, and appears to the
disciples. In John 20:22 we read: "And having said this, he
INFUSED(poured?) Himself into them and said, 'Receive the Holy
Spirit. If you expel sins from any, they will be free. If you
subdue them, they shall be subdued.'" Fenton gives us a footnote
for the word "infused," which he used instead of the familiar
"breathed," and we turn back to Genesis 2:7 and find "breath"
used instead of "infused." "...formed Man from the dust of the
ground, and BREATHED into his nostrils the life of animals, but
the man became a life-containing soul."

The three selves of Huna have been the major puzzle of Christian
doctrine. The ancient doctrine was that all beings, high and
low, from man to the gods, were triune in their nature. The
Egyptians had the gods as the Father, Mother, and Son. In the
confusion, lacking Huna knowledge, it is quite apparent that the
three selves of man were confused with the three units of a
triune God. The six bits were shaken up together, and man came
out with a single self. To remedy the matter, he was assigned a
Guardian Angel, or, if he was properly good, the Holy Spirit was
added to him. The Holy Spirit or High Self was, however, left
dangling between heaven and earth in the doctrines. It was
vaguely seen as a self connected with man, but not in the same
way that the one spirit or self was in him. It was a superior
spirit which had superior wisdom and power, and which came to
help men under certain conditions.

The suggestion of the lines from John, quoted above, would seem
to be that the fixations of guilt as well as other fixations
which had to be "subdued"  instead of simply "expelled" (or
removed), can best be he handled by those who have had a working
introduction to the Holy Spirit or Aumakua.

This, if it is a fact, could be of utmost importance to our Huna
exploration and experimentation. Perhaps all psychoanalysis and
even Dianetics,  fail of full effectiveness in finding and
draining off fixations or guilt complexes because of the lack of
a necessary element of High Self mental and mana power. For some
time I have been leaning strongly to the opinion that we need
very badly to have some way to finance and carry out a proper
series of experiments on just this line. Some work has been done
by HRA Dr. Reinhold and HRA Mrs. Reinhold, as well as others.
The preliminary results cry for a full-scale testing on a larger
basis.

The Three Selves In
The Greek New Testament

One of my first articles on Huna had an interesting beginning. By 1972 I had
known about Huna and the work of Max Freedom Long for about four years and
was reading everything I could find about it. Max had already found for me a
complete set of back issues—HRA Bulletins and Huna Vistas. I had read the
3,000 pages with increasing interest and had made an index for my own use. I
had also read all of the Huna books. It wasn’t long until everything I read
was related to Huna and the connections and interrelations could be seen.
Because of references in all these publications, I was very excited about
tracing the Huna code meanings through the Greek New Testament.

One Sunday morning I was sitting on the floor in choir loft after playing
the organ for the morning service. About forty college students filed into
the choir and my usual seat was occupied. I usually had with me some
interesting reading material in case the sermon was boring. I also had a
Greek New Testament with me, so turned to the passage the pastor announced
for his sermon. At once a phrase caught my attention. I focused my eyes and
looked for those words in the Greek text. They sounded very significant! Was
the pastor actually going to preach on THE THREE SELVES? Too much to hope
for. He was a learned doctor of theology, but tended to see only the
traditional interpretation and was unlikely to notice anything that said
otherwise. He read swiftly through that passage without noticing anything
unusual and went on the usual sermonizing..

So, sitting there on the floor behind the organ bench, I was in a world all
my own. I started jotting down notes on the Greek word and found the
following:


“May your whole being—spirit and soul and body—be kept blameless.”
(I Thessalonians 5:23)

Clearly this is an explicit reference in the New Testament that man is made
up of THREE SELVES. Huna philosophy, pure and simple. This is obvious in the
English translations and the Greek makes it even more enlightening.

The Greek word for “whole being” is holocleron, meaning “having all parts.”
The English words “whole” and “holistic” are based on the first root of this
word. All the parts of a person are given.

1. Spirit   •   Greek:  pneuma   •    High Self
2. Soul     •   Greek:  psyche   •    Middle Self
3. Body     •   Greek:  soma     •    Basic Self

The Spirit is the “spiritual” or divine part of a person and is connected
with breath. The word “spirit” comes from the Latin word, spiritus, meaning
breath and the Greek word, pneuma, also means breath or air (as in
pneumatic, pneumonia). Spirit relates to the High Self, which is the part of
our being that is connected to divinity.

Soul is identified with the psychic nature, i.e., mind, rather than with the
spirit. This is the Middle Self, or reasoning, thinking, conscious part of
the person. Soul and  spirit are not the same. Theology often confuses the
two and uses them without distinction.

Body is the physical part and relates to the Basic Self, which has charge of
the autonomic functions of the body. Soma (root, somat- ) is found in such
English words as “somatic” and “chromosome.”

Some of the other words are badly translated. “Blameless” (an adverb in
Greek) means “in a manner not meriting blame” and refers to the verb, not to
the “whole being.” The verb “keep” means “to care for” or “keep watch over.”
The phrase should not be “Keep Blameless,” but “Care for in a manner that
merits no blame.” This is a perfect parallel to the fundamental Huna
principle of “The Hurtless Life.” The word “whole” (holokleron) goes with
all three parts. The literal translation of the sentence is “May your spirit
and soul and body as a whole be kept intact with all parts together in a
manner that is above reproach.”

There is another passage that indicates unequivocally that there is a
distinction between the Spirit and the Soul, but it is often disguised by
mistranslation.


“There is a physical body and there is a spiritual body.”
(I Corinthians 15:44).

That may seem so obvious that it is not pertinent. But the Greek actually
says:


“There is a PSYCHIC body and there is a spiritual body.”

The two phrases are identical to the nouns in the preceding passage:
psychikon and pneumatikon. If “physical” was intended, the word would have
been physikon.

I hesitated at the time to suggest that such a mistranslation could be
deliberate—but I checked incidentally through eight English translations and
they all misconstrue it. I found the same in a more recent check of some
thirty translations All the ancient manuscripts of the passage  have  the
word  psychikon—and that is very different from physikon, even if they may
seem at first glance to be rather similar in appearance. It seems clear that
this is a statement concerning two of the Selves (psyche/soul and
pneuma/spirit) without mentioning the physical body (which everyone knows
exists and may be taken for granted in the discussion).

When I wrote Max Freedom Long about this, he added the following comments
(letter of 12-5-68):

“Apparently the translators were at some pains to hide the secret meaning of
the High Self, but in selecting pneuma to name it, they used a kahuna code
word which points to the High Self without naming it directly. This is aho
for the natural breath; patience; A LINE OR CORD. Here we have enough to
tell the initiated that breathing to accumulate mana, and to send it over
the aka cord, indicates the fact that the High Self is the one being
mentioned. In the lore of India they spoke of it as ‘The Thread Soul,’ with
the same idea of the cord or aka shadowy thread. The Greek meanings for
spirit were closely bound up with breath or air as well, or so I seem to
recall. Psyche is simple and direct for the middle self, and Body is a
perfect code symbol for the low self who owns and uses the body.”

The problems of translating are intricate and difficult, particularly in
texts with religious or theological significance. The two passages mentioned
above point up the precaution that must always be taken when using a
translated text to support a specific interpretation. No matter how
objective and scholarly the translators try to be, their own basic premises
necessarily impinge upon their manner of expressing thoughts. The words
psychikon and physikon cannot be mistaken for each other, in spite of
general resemblance to the untrained eye. Such an error could not be
repeatedly made by the many different experts who have analyzed the the text
with the greatest of care. The mistranslation must therefore have been
tacitly agreed upon by general consensus, because of their basic premise
that man consists of only soul and body.

Complexed traditional beliefs make it difficult for present-day church
members, engrained with ideas about man and God based on incomplete
information, to understnad, much less to accept the concept of the Three
Selves. To discover the High Self among the strange, vague, distorted
anthropomorphic notions about “God” presents a hurdle that most Christians
seem unable to overcome. What is worse, they also seem unwilling to
investigate the possibility.

The Bible has enough references to convince the most complexed
traditionalist, if he would but examine them with openness and a desire for
the Truth. The High Self must be known directly through experience or
“Realization.” Max Freedom Long spoke of this in his first report of his
discoveries, Recovering the Ancient Magic (1936), in one of the clearest,
most inspiring, and enlightening discussions in the book.

“We have no word in English to describe what is called samadhi [Realization]
by the Hindus, or what is still more accurately indicated by ko [Attainment]
in Hawaiian.... Sri Ramakrishna calls  the  state  of  Realization,  ‘God-
consciousness.’ He explains that from the conscious state one passes to a
superconscious state in which the pattern verities of creation are contacted
by the ego.... The process of becoming consciously aware of these
superphysical pattern-idea realities is one of blending with the
pattern-ideas—the blending with Love being the blending with God in His
highest phase, creative or externalized—although all is God that is touched
in Realization.... In trying to explain God, Sri Ramakrishna once said: ‘The
conviction that God is in all objects—that there is Unity in variety—is
called Knowledge of Oneness. Knowing Him intimately is Realization.... There
has been as yet in this world no created being who has been able to express
by word of mouth the nature of the Absolute.... There is unspeakable joy in
the company of the Lord. Words of the mouth cannot describe it. He alone
knows, who has felt it.... God the Absolute is the one Substance to be
realized—not described or known. The sign of True Knowledge or Realization
is cessation of doubt and therefore of all philosophical discussion.... The
result of the foregoing position is that the Higher Self alone knows the
Higher Self.... All facts of the universe—every  object,  every
phenomenon—comes under creation, preservation and destruction—under Body,
Mind and Soul.’ (This is much compressed from the fuller eighteen-page
discussion in the book.)

In Biblical terms, God is Spirit. And in the description of ”The Whole Self’
as SPIRIT, SOUL, AND BODY, the Spirit represents the High Self or God. The
Hawaiian name of this part of man is ‘Aumakua, “the utterly trustworthy
parental Spirit.” The Greek work pneuma means breath. The Hebrew word,
Ruach, also means wind or air. It is only “in spirit” (breath) that we can
truly “worship” God. It is significant that the Greek word which we
translate “worship,” proskynein, means “to kiss” or “throw a kiss to, from
afar.” Communication with God (contacting the High Self) has been the
age-old desire of man. When the High Self is known or realized, contact is
possible. The spiritual part of man can receive spiritual things. Mana can
be sent along the aka cord, like a kiss from afar, and the God on High, or
“Father in Heaven,” can be contacted. The passage in John 20:22 thus takes
on new meaning: “Jesus breathed in (on them) and said, Receive ye the holy
spirit (breath).” A key to approaching God is given in Hebrews 11:6, where
two prerequisites are stated: first, we must believe that He exists (the
High Self cannot be contacted if we do not know of its existence or do not
believe that there is a High Self part of us); second, that we must believe
that He is a rewarder of those who seek Him. It is the High Self that
rewards; rewarder is literally the “paymaster.”

I have made a long list of all the designations of God in the Bible (far too
long to list here) and many are very instructive for our study of the High
Self. For example: Elohim, “He Who Puts Forth Power” is used 2,550 times;
Jehovah (Yahweh), “He Who Is Ever Present,” is used 6,000 times; Adonai,
“The Lord High and Lifted Up” (Isaiah 6:1), is used 340 times. There are
many others. It is only through the concept of the High Self in each person
that these many Hebrew names of God become comprehensible.

Max Freedom Long’s book, The Huna Code in Religions, presents and
illustrates the method of tracing the code language in religious writings.
This magnificent book gives detailed examples from Christian, Yoga, and
Buddhist writings. If this book were read and studied carefully, it would
provide the procedure and the inspiration for the future of the Huna
Fellowship.

MANA MAGIC:
KAHUNA SECRETS ON DEMAND

Huna is amazing. The more you study, the more you do, the more you
learn. I like what Max said, "The real point of studying Huna is that
one can and should learn to work with his vast and untouched powers."

Lately I've been working with mana (the vital force) for healing others
mentally (psychotherapy) and for helping them heal physically. I also
have developed a "mana depletion" method to weaken a violent opponent in
a physical threat (fight) situation for martial arts protection. And, if
you want, I'll teach you how to do them at the next Huna training in
Cape Girardeau, MO, in October.

Let me tell you how it all started.

Last year (April 1998) in Portland, Oregon, I watched a Huna guru clear
up emotional problems in three different people. He did it almost
instantly by using a secret Ha breathing method, along with some hand
gestures.

I was amazed. I was thrilled. I was mesmerized. Such power!

Now I hold a Ph.D. in Sports Psychology. I'm a Silva Mind Control
Instructor and ESP Trainer. I hold a Neuro-linguistics Trainer's
certificate. I'm certified to level III in Ericsonian Hypnosis, and I'm
a certified Huna Kumu, but I'd never seen such fast, clean and covert
psychotherapy in my life. I'm not telling you this to brag, but to
assure you that I'm not a simpleton that'll swallow anything because
it's on a hook in front of me.

I knew conventional therapy would have taken two years, if it worked at
all. I knew a good NLP trainer would have taken twenty minutes to a
couple of weeks, depending on how much he wanted to milk the cow for.
But this guy cured these three people in less than ten seconds. And, I
wanted that knowledge because knowledge is pure power, and I'm that type
of person.

Being suspicious by nature, during the next break I hunted down those
three people, one-by-one and closely questioned them.

"Yes, it had worked. Yes, the negative emotion was entirely gone. Yes,
they felt much better."

NOW I WAS REALLY HOOKED.

I had to know how he had done what he had done, no matter what the cost
in time or money.

So I went up to the guru and requested he teach me his "Huna Magic". He
told me I wasn't ready for it yet and would need to take his special
training in Kona. There, at his "Special Huna" training I would learn
"the" secret.

So I went.

I paid him money and I dedicated myself to learning his secrets. I was
in Kona two weeks and I was taught wheelbarrows full of useful wisdom,
but nothing about what had drawn me to his class in the first place.

Once again I asked other instructors when I was going to learn how-to-do
the therapy technique the guru had used in Portland.

Once again I was put off. There were three more levels of their secret
training's to go through. . . but when I was ready I'd get it.

Of course, each level, with tuition, plane fare, food, lodging and
transportation came out to about $4,000, or a total of $16,000. Then, if
you were ready for it, there was a special advanced "behind closed
doors" one week class with the guru and no more than eleven of his
hand-picked students. . . FOR ANOTHER another $10,000. But only if you
qualified. I was through qualifying.

During class I again broached the subject with the guru. He mentioned
that everyone must go through the steps. He then gave a two-step
metaphor. The first metaphor was that you must go through High School
before you can take college classes. And then you must obtain a degree
before you can undertake post-graduate studies.

Then he laughed (a break-state for metaphor number two) and gave me a
story about Dion Fortune. Dion Fortune is the pen name of a psychologist
(Violet Furst) who was also into magick around the turn of the century.

"HOW TO GAIN SECRET KNOWLEDGE!"

Dion had been critiqued by the Golden Dawn Society for giving to the
public their secrets of magick in two of her fiction books, "Moon Magic"
and "The Sea Priestess." In their minds this was secret knowledge that
was only reserved for their highest echelon of practitioners.

Dion's answer to their accusations was that she'd not taken those
advanced trainings from them nor had she signed any oath to keep them
secret. She stated that through her meditations she'd accessed High
Knowledge from previous incarnations where she'd already achieved those
esoteric trainings. She was therefore under no obligation for secrecy.

So this guru said that if anyone (as he looked at me) was meant to have
secret information before it came up in training that it was okay with
him if they went and got it through past learning's from other
incarnations.

I knew at that point that if it was going to be, it was up to me. By me
I meant guidance from my own High Self.


"The Secret Method Of Talking To
Your High Self."

So that evening, alone in my hotel room, I went into a relaxed state
(alpha brain wave), where the right brain and left brain hemispheres are
synchronized and working together in a deep state of meditative expanded
awareness, then, I asked my High Self for guidance.

The answer came back: 1. "Learn how-to-see energy fields, 2. Learn
how-to-feel by touch other people's energy fields, 3. Learn how-to-feel
by emotions other people's energy fields, 4. Learn how-to-project energy
so others could feel it consciously and/or unconsciously, and 5. Teach
others how-to-see, feel and do energy drills, and then, you'll be ready
for more instructions."

Since I could already do the first 4 steps somewhat (If you need
instructions just give Vince Wingo a call. He has some of my Training
Videos.), I jumped right into the 5th step, teaching others. So every
week I'd access other people's energy fields visually and
kinesthetically. Luckily, I have access to a couple of hundred martial
art athletes who come to me every week for training. I have lots of
live, interested and willing bodies to practice on.

I made a lot of mistakes. I learned a lot of lessons. I taught a lot of
people.

I threw energy balls at people in Cancun. I've pushed people around (by
their energy fields) in Salt Lake City. I've felt energy fields that
were hot. I've felt energy fields that were ice cold. I've felt energy
shooting out of a man's back three and a half feet. I've felt holes in
people's energy fields that sucked your energy right in (energy
Vampires?), I've seen pukey green energy fields, gray energy fields,
blue energy fields, sparks shooting out of people's heads, rays of
energy shooting from people's finger tips. Then on some days I might get
nothing. It varied according to my own emotional state and my own "want
to" state.

But the difference that made the difference was my teaching other's to
do the skill that I was learning to do. The more I taught them the more
I learned how to do energy better and better.

"Here's How To Teach The Impossible!"

I found that the easiest way to teach someone something that they think
is impossible to do is to teach it to them three times and in different
ways. The first time is a preconditioning, where you show them
verifiable proof (facts) where others have done what you will be
teaching them to do.

"Secrets Of Finding Their
Motivational Strategy!"

Then you must give them historical information from sources that are
valid to them along with specific benefits that they will get if they do
the drills. Some people want more power, other people want more control.
To find out a person's specific meta-program just ask them the question,
"What is important to you about learning how-to-control vital force?"
Their answer will be their specific motivation strategy. You can also
prime their mental pumps by giving them ten or so possible "you get
this, and this does this." Of course you must code it isomorphically by
talking about how George used his new skill, not how they can use the
new skill. If you talk one-on-one, 47% of the population will mismatch
what you are teaching, but if you talk about how George used "healing
energies," that thought will be planted in their unconscious minds by
sliding past that critical factor barrier.

Second, you take them through drills that are verifiable (they can see,
hear, feel and do) of their new skill being learned. To do this, start
out with a demonstration where you do the technique and they either have
it done to them or witness it being done to someone they know. That
simple demo will automatically install a belief that learning such a
skill is simple and easy to do.

"The Method Behind Energy Pushing!"

For example, one demo I do is have a student stand in front of me, about
twelve feet away, facing the other direction, his back side towards me.
I have him relax, and, if he's had alpha brain wave training, I tell him
to close his eyes and tune into his energy field and just go with what
ever he feels.

I then put up both of my hands (as if I'm getting ready to push a car),
with both palms outward towards his back until I feel his energy field
with the energy shooting out of the palm chakras of both my hands. I do
Ha breathing to increase my own vital force as I slowly push his energy
field until he starts to lean forward away from me. As soon as he starts
to lean forward, I then slowly pull back my hands until he starts to be
pulled backwards towards me. I then continue to slowly push and pull
gently to be sure the watchers are assured his movements corresponding
with my pushing and pulling are not coincidental nor accidental. NOTE: A
sensitive person will actually be forced to step forward when you push
or they'll fall forward flat on their face.

After they've seen the drill and understand the instructions, have the
class break up into groups of three people each. One person is the
meta-person whose job is to make sure the other two people are doing
their job correctly. The second person is doing the pushing of energy
fields, and the third person is relaxing to expand his awareness so he's
conscious of when his energy field is being pushed. In this process all
three practitioners are learning because they are doing a specific task.
All three people should rotate and trade places until all three have
been successful at each job. It's a fairly simple process.

Next on the agenda is to have them share their successes. When they
share their successes they bypass the mis-matchers and their negative
input.

Lastly, there is a third step most trainers leave out. It's, "how else
can I use this new wisdom?" Or, "Where else can I do this drill safely
and not get thrown in jail?"

I tell them to have fun in the Movie Theater. Many of my students come
back with stories of how that fat guy munching popcorn three rows down
started "rocking" back and forth in his seat, then looked around quickly
to see who was pushing him. . . but there is no one even sitting close.
It's also neat to practice this stuff in a restaurant or at the mall.

"The Method Behind Throwing
Energy Balls!"

After they've had some success with "pushing" I have them learn
how-to-make energy balls and throw them at the backs of other people.

The balls are made by using imagination along with the Ha breath to
accumulate mana into your dominant hand, usually the right hand if right
handed, then tossing that energy ball at various parts of unsuspecting
people's anatomy.

Interestingly enough, the time it takes to effect the person aimed at
twenty-five away is about one to two seconds, the exact same amount of
time it takes to project healing mana to a person three inches away from
you. In both cases you can feel a sort of "click" as you make contact.
Maybe at the realm where this energy exists there is no-time, there is
no-space, there is no-distance? Just a thought.

Onward.

"A Quickie Method Of Mental Housecleaning!"

With these drills most people need some form of Mental Housecleaning.
They usually bad-mouth themselves in being not able to do it. This
problem is easily solved by asking themselves the following question,
"If I could do it, how would I?" Then just have them do the drill. Like
I tell a lot of people, "Talking don't cook the rice." Some of them
don't get it, and that's okay.

Both of the above energy drills work much better when the unsuspecting
target's conscious mind is relaxed and they are in a semi-doze staring
into la-la land. I've found that if the target is consciously focused
strongly on any thing, then no one except a highly trained sensitive
with exceptional communication between their conscious mind and their
unconscious mind will be aware consciously of any energy field
manipulation.

Okay. Here I am able to see energy, feel energy and use energy to help
myself and others, but I still have no clue on how-to-do "psychic"
psychotherapy as done by the guru in Portland.

"Here's What Max Freedom Long Said!"

So I did my relaxation drill, followed by my deepening exercises,
followed by my going to the laboratory of my mind where I consciously
communicate with my Aumakua. This time the answer came back, "Go back
and read Max's book, "The Secret Science At Work," especially the parts
about the solar plexus." I asked, "Why solar plexus?" The answer came
back, "Remember where the guru looked when he did his therapy. Remember
how he breathed. Remember how he used his right hand." Then the High
Self went on to say, "You won't be able to do it until you have some
valid explanation of why it works. Find the 'why' and the 'how' will be
simple for you."

And so back to Max's book I went. The strangest thing is, while I was
doing my search it seemed like the big guy was standing behind me at my
left shoulder giving me encouragement and telling me where to find the
answers I sought. Within about fifteen minutes I'd collected the
following concepts:

1 -- "Once such a contact has been made and an invisible aka thread has
been established one with something, this thread is more or less
permanent, and is attached to the aka body at the region of the SOLAR
PLEXUS."

2 -- "From THIS POINT they may run in any direction. . .this cord is the
natural link of connection between the low self and the High self."

3 -- "The SOLAR PLEXUS is the same spot or part in the body, we are told
by Kahunas, is the center of the low self mental-memory-mana
activities."

4 -- "The low self is affected by only two things:
      a. what it senses at the moment with the five senses, as what it
sees, hears, feels—painful, fearful, good, bad, or pleasant
impressions. 			     b. What it remembers of the times or events in the
past when it has registered Events or happenings-has remembered or
registered by making thought form clusters with which to record and
remember. . ."

5 -- "The Kahunas used the symbol of the Spider's web with flies caught
in it. Each fly was a memory, and all the flies were connected by the
strands of the web with all other flies. In the center lay the spider. .
. the thin strands of the web stood for the aka thread, and the normal
memory was one tied to all other memories in a rationalization process
as it was made, thought over and considered."
6 -- "And a low self which harbors a sense of guilt because of bad deeds
done by the low and Middle selves will not face the High Self across the
aka cord."

"Here's What Neuro-Linguistics (NLP) Says!"

Wow. That was a lot to think about. I knew from studying sub-modalities
and doing Time line Therapy in NLP that when people access certain
memories, those memories are accessed visually. It's as if their
eye-ball locations and focal points are the keyboard to their thoughts
and their emotions, and these locations where their eyes went were
outside of their body!

Their eyes would focus outside of themselves at a certain distance,
location, size, and color. Good beliefs are usually stored higher and
nearer than are things they don't believe in.

Bad feelings are usually stored down low, at the bottom part of the
solar plexus. Good feelings are usually stored much higher. In fact, in
NLP, bad thoughts like guilt, fear, anger, and sadness are normally
stored outside the body in the area just outside and in front of the
solar plexus area (see John LaValle's and Richard Bandler's book on
Persuasion Engineering).

"Here's What Healers With
Second Sight Say!"

This is the area that psychic healers who can see the primary seven
chakras call the "Front Solar Plexus Chakra." The best of these healers
state, "The solar plexus chakra is the center of lower emotions, such as
anger, hate, irritation, resentment, worry, anxiety, tension, fear,
selfishness, aggressiveness, and physical violence...by normalizing this
energy field, violent people can be calmed down quickly. In healing
psychological ailments, this chakra is almost always treated."

I was still a tad bit confused. The above healer, Choa Kok Sui, said
that healing of any emotional problem took time and many energy
repetitions, up to six months and sometimes even longer. But the Huna
guru was able to do it in two seconds. What was the difference?

"So back to Max's book I went. Maybe
I'd find a clue there."

Max said:

1 -- ". . .Kahunas helped the patients get rid of feelings of guilt,
requiring them to make amends. How they helped to remove the things that
were 'blocking the path' and 'eating inside (complexes), and then, if
present, any spirits who had attached themselves, or were periodically
doing things to cause him trouble."

2 -- "One needs to be cleansed of (negative thought forms) before being
fit to face the High Self. These (thought forms) are symbolized as
acting in-clusters, the 'seeds' of the prayer, and forming other
clusters in the unrationalized memories which cut man off from the High
Self."

3 -- "The Kahuna watched for negative complexes, and for roving spirits,
'eating companions', and if found removed them. Both eating companions
and negative complexes robbed a person of his vital force and stopped
his connection with his High Self."

4 -- "The observed technique for the removal of evil spirits was the
accumulation of a VERY HEAVY SHOCK CHARGE OF MANA and the use of it,
coupled with a type of mesmeric suggestion, to dislodge the obsessing
spirit."

5 -- "The complexes and evil spirits, 'things eating one inside,' WERE
LUMPED TOGETHER in the same classification of sin as were deeds of hurt
done others, or mistakes in good conduct."

EUREKA!

I knew I had found the answer I'd been looking for.

I'D FOUND THE "WHAT," THE "WHY," AND THE "HOW." Now all I needed to do
was some real life drills with some volunteers to see if my conclusions
really worked, or not. I knew what my gun was. I knew how to increase
the size of my bullets. I knew where the targets were located.

"All I had to do NOW was isolated the
problem to be cleared."

That was easy to do. I just remembered how guru did it. He just asked
the client to, "Remember a time when you were "X'ed" (negative emotion).
Re-feel it real strong now!" as he visually accessed the client's
physiology. Then, when the client was holding the thought he would
"sweep" the area of the solar plexus with a heavy shock charge of mana.

Now it was my turn.

So I grabbed myself a volunteer who wanted to clean up a negative memory
from his past.

"A SECRET METHOD WORTH
$4,000 BUCKS, OR MORE!"

Without him telling me what his condition was I had him access that
memory. When he had fully associated into the memory, which was easy to
see because of the frown on his face, I visualized protruding in front
of his solar plexus an expanding funnel with a grimy dish on the outside
edge of it. While doing Ha breathing, from the palm of my right hand
chakra I swept all the debris (thought forms) off of his chakra. I
imagined seeing rips in it so I visualized them sealing themselves
together, and then I imagined it shining and healthy.

After about 2 to 3 seconds I felt a dis-connect so I stopped.

Then I asked him, "Okay. What difference do you notice now?"

His eyes were big and round and he was sort of blown away.

"My God. What did you do? I can remember the event, but there just
aren't any emotions left around it. What did you do?"

He'd had an operation where the dentist had performed three root canals
on him, one after the other, until it was all done. For him it used to
be very painful memory and even the thought was to be dreaded. Now, when
he thought about it, all the pain was gone and no matter how hard he
tried, he couldn't bring it back. He could remember every incident of
the operations, but it was if it'd happened to some one else.

"HOW TO REMOVE VIOLENT ENERGY FROM
THE ENERGY FIELD!"

Yes. It had worked. So now I had one more skill to add to my bag of
tools.

The next thing I worked on was removing violent emotion from one of my
client. I told him to get really "pissed off" by remembering something
or someone that had offended him in the past. Then, when he was really
"pissed," to throw a punch at me. He did so which I easily evaded (I
also hold a 10th degree black belt in Kenpo Karate).

I then told him to get "pissed" again, but this time I shot light blue
energy into his solar plexus while he was trying to access the "pissed
off" state. He couldn't get mad! I had him throw a punch at me any way
and it was about 1/3 the power of the first punch. In fact he said he
felt a tad bit tired.

So I re-energized his solar plexus chakra with light-red energy. He felt
much better.

Just a note of caution here. I'm trained in various methods of therapy
and if one method doesn't work, or if I screw something up, I have
enough ammunition in my bag of tricks to fix it.

"THE BASIC HUNA PREMISE!"

The Huna basic premise is, "NEVER HURT ANYONE ELSE INTENTIONALLY." And,
another premise that I strongly believe in is, "ALWAYS LEAVE THEM BETTER
OFF THAN YOU FOUND THEM!"

Actually that's a concept I borrowed from John Grinder when I trained
under him in 1984.

There are many methods that will work as well or better than the one I
outlined in the above report. Time Line Therapy is one of the best of
the best. So is alpha brain wave conditioning. And then there is
hypnosis. Next comes standard Neuro-Linguistics programming. So will the
Ha Breath Rite, when proper kala is done before the prayer.

In fact it was use of the Ha Breath Rite, combined with Alpha Brain Wave
Conditioning, which led me to where I could ask my Aumakua for a method
to give me a solution to the problem I had in mind.

The above is a simplified outline of one particular energy method I've
practiced with during the last ten months. My purpose in writing this
information down is to enable you to bypass spending $26,000 bucks and
17 years of wasted time in an attempt to gather the same methods. The
above materials were learned through hands-on-training with live humans
and, hopefully I was guided by my Higher Intelligence. Whether it is
useful for you, or not, I don't know nor care.

I've done my part. If you want to "really" know, then roll up your
sleeves, get your own live humans, and get to work!

I do have one more thing I want to cover a tad bit. James, my client,
asked me who the guru was, and why I didn't like him. I really don't
feel it's necessary to mention his name, but I actually I do like him.
He and his instructors taught me much more wisdom than I ever
anticipated. . .but it wasn't the skill that I went there to learn. The
next time I train with him I'll just be damn sure I'm getting what I'm
paying for, before I go. He has much to share and it dovetails nicely
into what Max Freedom Long re-discovered of the Ancient Wisdom of the
Kahuna.

      It's Vince, I'm just now "recovering from the Seminar! I can now
get back to posting on The Huna List.

      The Seminar popped paradigms, moved meta-programs, and flushed out
false thought-forms. For my own part there was so much Secret Knowledge
presented by so many Huna "Kumu" Masters that there was no way I could
absorb even 3% of what the world's best had to offer.

     I got a lot more information (wonderful information) than I was
prepared for at the time. It was great. The seminar was sooo powerful
for me. I was thrilled. I personally have spent over 26 years acquiring
Huna Wisdom. Even so, the knowledge presented here from each "Kumu"
Master astounded me.

video tapes, I actually fell into a TIME WARP OF STUDY. When I once
again popped up my head out of the water for a clean breath of air, I

"Symptoms Of Inner Peace"

Be on the lookout for symptoms of inner peace.
The hearts of a  great many have already been
exposed to inner peace and it is possible that
people everywhere could come down with it in
epidemic proportions. This could pose a serious
threat to what has, up to now, been a fairly stable
condition of conflict in the world.

Some signs to look for:

* A tendency to think and act spontaneously rather
than on fears based on past experiences.

* An unmistakable ability to enjoy each moment.

* A loss of interest in judging other people.

* A loss of interest in interpreting the actions of others.

* A loss of interest in conflict.

* A loss of the ability to worry. (This is a very serious
symptom.)

* Frequent, overwhelming episodes of appreciation.

* Contented feelings of connectedness with others
and nature.

* Frequent attacks of smiling.

* An increasing tendency to let things happen rather
than make them happen.

* An increased susceptibility to the love offered by
others as well as the uncontrollable urge to extend it.

First American 'from Polynesia'!

      Los Angeles: Thigh bones found on a California island (Channel
Islands) could be from North America's oldest skeleton, according to
scientists challenging American Indians' most cherished beliefs  about
the continent's population (Giles Whittell writes). The bones, stored
since being found in 1959, are now said to be from a woman who died
about 13,000 years ago - 1,400 years earlier than first told. The
difference is crucial, suggesting the New World's first human beings may
have come not by foot from Siberia, but by boat, possibly from
Polynesia.

       "She may be the earliest inhabitant we have discovered," John
Johnson  of Santa Barbara Museum said after a paper was presented on
Arlington Springs Woman, outlining retesting
using new DNA and radiocarbon dating methods. If the date is correct,
she would have lived when the mainland was roamed by woolly mammoths and
covered largely by glaciers

attention. Breath is the most important of all the bodily functions, in
fact all the other bodily functions
depend on breath.

      As much as we are dependent on breath for life, so are we largely
dependent on correct, healthy
breathing habits for continued vitality and freedom from disease.

      One of the first things we learn in Huna is that by controlling our
breathing we can increase energy
and vitality. On the other hand, incorrect, careless breathing leads to
decreased vitality and opens us
up to disease.

      Civilization has changed our manner of breathing. Very few people
breath correctly in today’s
world. The results can be seen in poor posture, contracted chests,
stooped shoulders, and the large
amount of respiratory disease.

      The foundation of health is a healthy bloodstream. Breathing is the
way you fully oxygenate the
body and thereby stimulate the electrical process of every cell in the
body.

      Breathing also stimulates the flow of the lymph fluid which
contains white blood cells. The lymph
system is the body’s sewage system. Every cell is surrounded by lymph.
We have four times as much
lymph fluid than blood! The blood carries oxygen and nutrients to the
capillaries which diffuse them
into the lymph fluid around each cell. The cells take only what they
need and excrete toxins. Dead
cells and other toxins must be eliminated by the lymph system, and the
lymph system is activated by
deep breathing!.

      Whereas the blood system has a pump called the heart, the lymph
system moves only through
deep breathing and muscular movement.

      Not only does physical health depend on correct breathing, our
mental power, happiness,
self-control, clear-sightedness, morals, and spiritual growth are
dependent upon breath. Entire
schools of Oriental Philosophy have been founded upon the “Science of
Breath.”

      In Huna we practice breathing exercises which allow us to gain
control of our bodies and our
selves, enabling us to send mana to any organ or area of thought
(thought-form) to energize it and
thereby strengthen ourselves and others. By controlled breathing we can
not only cure disease, but
also practically do away with fear, worry, and the baser emotions.

      Although breathing is something we do naturally and automatically
it is important to examine just
how breath functions.
