Virgil,

There are different types of video:
- Video telephony via digital 32kbps or 64kbps circuit switched
    channel
all 3G phones by DoCoMo and Vodafone
      not AU phones
- download of mpeg movie/video/music/music-video clips:
      all 3G phones

You can also check out on the websites for the various mobile
phones on the carriers homepages, and you'll find this information
easily.

If you need to know more, then we have a report about 3G in Japan,
which also includes a lot about video:
http://www.eurotechnology.com/store/3G/

Hope this helps,

Gerhard

Hi,

As there is no client-side scripting language on i-mode, you are forced to do a lot of work on the server side.

No problem with input field validation, but as you mention, you cannot use several dynamic combo box on a same page as you may be used to with javascript.

Knowing this, you can stop trying to achieve this and rather modify the specifications and navigation to attain the same goal with a different ergonomy.

I had some hard time with complex data input myself ... If you wish to send me your storyboard, I'll be glad to help.

Cheers,
Nico.

i-mode content uses i-html which can be viewed using Pocket IE if you have the URL of the site/page you want to view. Many official sites will only let you access the content on i-mode phones though, presumably mainly for billing reasons.

Do you mean server-side or client-side scripting?

As far as I know there are no i-mode devices which support client-side
scripting. For server-side scripting I don't think it matters much,
CHTML is quite simple to produce so this should work with all kinds of
scripting languages.

Kind regards,

Hans

All i-mode handsets in Europe support tables, although support for
them can be turned off in the handset by the user. This is part of the
i-HTML specification, it has no relation to WML.

This is a problem with tables, and also the reason that tables are not
really supported on the Japanese i-mode handsets. The solution is
simple: make sure your table is not wider than the page. Using less
columns and not including fixed-width images can be a solution.

Kind regards,

Hans

Tom: i-mode phones in use in Japan now use different browsers
and different version of the same browser. Some phones like the
SH900i also have the Pixel browser which can display pdf-files
and Excel files. All browsers in i-Mode phones comply with
DoCoMo's i-mode standards. However, if you use features outside
DoCoMo's i-mode specifications:
(a) there is no guarantee that all phones will display your
      pages correctly
(b) there is no guarantee that future phones will display your
      pages

So it depends what you want. There are more than 100 different
i-mode phones on the market. Do you want your pages to display
correctly on all of them? Do you want your pages only to display
on 900i series FOMA phones? For example, there are some games
which only work on 900i series phones.
it really depends what you want, and on your business model.

A lot of this information is in our i-mode-FAQ:
http://www.eurotechnology.com/imode/faq.html

                 Hi Noriyasu,

No, afaik, there are no specific API with DoJa 1.5.

I think N400 will be the first european handset with DoJa
                 2.5.

                 Regards,
                 Nico.

Hi Nico,

are there any additional API for n341i / n400i from NEC to DoJa 1.5?
Or did you meant only DoJa 1.5?

Regards,
Noriyasu

Hi Philippe,

Couldn't test your i-mode version. Which DoJa version is it ?  I use DoJa 1.5 (overseas edition). But maybe you were targeting japan..

If you plan to port for european i-mode phone, then I think you'll  have too much trouble with perfs. I tried a 3D engine some monthes ago .. and Nec perfs are really far from Nokia handsets.

Good luck.

Cheers,

Nico.
