Hi Nico,
are there any additional API for n341i / n400i from NEC to DoJa 1.5? Or did you meant only DoJa 1.5?

If you plan to port for european i-mode phone, then I think you'll have too much trouble with perfs. I tried a 3D engine some monthes ago .. and Nec perfs are really far from Nokia handsets.
Hi John,
Would you please tell me the website that you post
your series?
I have some experience on wireless: WAP, I-mode, J2ME

Yahoo! Messenger has been available for a while using i-appli in Japan. You would have to be fast on the keitai keyboard to keep up with people on a full sized keyboard though!

As far as I know you can setup your own certifikate
with
the apache Server. The cert. is not confirmed but it's
ok for testing.
note that some handsets (like Nec 21i) do not support

i-mode is still in an introductory phase, but the main carrier is
doing a great publicitary effort for the christmas campaign, so I
guess i-mode will start to be popular next year.
One pioneer site is http://wireless.lasindias.com/ and
http://asiatech.lasindias.com/ the first weblog to be included in the
official menu.
See you

That is certainly correct. However, the "official menu" payment
system, is only one out of many different business models on i-mode,
and only suitable for certain types of businesses.
For many businesses the "official menu" is not suitable, and at least
in Japan many successful i-mode sites are not on the official menu.
So: "how can I get onto the official i-mode menu?" should not be your
first question! Your first question should be: which business model do
I chose for my i-mode business?

I'm new to the group. I'm a freelance developer, and, since now in my country (Spain) i-mode is having strong support by the public and the main phone company, I'm starting to get interested in this technology.
My question is: Is there any book or website where the basics of i-mode are explained? I mean, business models, how payment systems work, how get listed in the "official menu", etc.

Hello Antonio,
You can finde i-mode Basics on google with strings like
"i-mode tutorial"
An overview over i-mode Books/publications is listed on
http://www.i-mode-emulator.com/en/books/
As far as I know the implementation of the payment process
and the way how to get listed in the official Menu is
different in every country and depending of the telefon
company wich supports i-mode. In Germany it is eplus.
The different Companys are listed here

Take care: i-mode is base on a lot of technology, however it's
mainly a brand and an elaborate business model. i-mode
can use many different types of technology - it's not a single
technology.
> My question is: Is there any book or website where the basics of
> i-mode are explained? I mean, business models, how payment systems

For a start you should read the DoCoMo websites:
http://www.nttdocomo.com/
Then we have an i-mode-FAQ which explains a lot of the basics of
imode business, and how i-mode appears to users in Japan:
http://www.eurotechnology.com/imode/faq.html
We have developed and maintained our imode-faq since the start
of imode in 1999 - and even people at DoCoMo use our information!
For example, and American who joined DoCoMo here in Japan said
that he used our information and our reports to get up to
speed when he joined DoCoMo in Tokyo!
And then over 2-3 years we have developed our i-mode report, which
in about 200 pages explains a lot of the business details of i-mode,
revenue models, usage statistics in Japan, the difference
between i-mode on 2G and 3G, the evolution of i-mode over time,
page access numbers etc. This report is mainly focused on Japan,
where i-mode has 40 million users - but:
(a) looking at i-mode in Japan give you a good idea where i-mode
might develop in Europe or Spain, and
(b) if your site is really good, there is no reason why you cannot
make business with 40 million affluent Japanese consumers on i-mode
from Spain! All you need to do is to have somebody translate your
i-mode site to Japanese, which is not a big problem.
You can download our i-mode report here in pdf-format:
http://www.eurotechnology.com/store/imode/
and I have made a 33% discount coupon for all members of this list
(and your friends). When you check out, you enter the discount
coupon: IMODEGROUPDECMB
and you get 33% off the i-mode report until end 2003.
Regarding you question about how to become an official site:
there are advantages and disadvantages to being an official site.
You do not need to be an official site: some of the most successful
and most useful sites in Japan are not official sites! To become
an official site, you need to become a partner of the operator,
in Japan DoCoMo, in Holland KPN etc. This is a business partnership -
it is not a public service! Therefore in Japan DoCoMo decides who
they want to partner with, and you need to find out what DoCoMo
(or KPN etc) is interested in, and what their requirements and
business needs are. Even Disney took many months to convince DoCoMo,
and on the other hand, I know some small companies in Japan, who
became official sites within a few weeks. It's a private business
transaction, so it's really between you/your company and the
carrier. It helps if you know some people in the carrier, and
you can discuss with them what they are looking for. In the case
of Japan we can help you and give you advice and help.
Good luck!
Gerhard
