George, As long as you have broken the movie into separate clips. Then select the clips (Shift - Click) you wish to export. From the File menu choose Export....

I am not exactly sure on version 5, but in iMovie 4, you can select idnividual clips and exports those, but you can not directly select a section of movie...

Correct. The original poster asked how to export a "[highlighted] segment" which I assumed meant anywhere within a clip or even overlapping more than one clip....
