This Santa Clara University webinar covers:
Energy storage is critical for the successful large-scale integration of renewable energy into the power grid. The technology is emerging, with many possible options. This class give an overview of the energy storage landscape. It presents utility-scale and renewable energy applications. It then describes how batteries work and surveys leading battery technologies, including lithium ion, lead-acid, flow batteries, and other approaches. For perspective, it also surveys other storage technologies such as pumped hydro, compressed air, flywheels, and super-capacitors. It then provides a comparison of these technologies, and closes with a discussion of investing in storage technology development and the economic potential.
