Depends on where you have your users and what kind of hosting you have
Typical plaxo or cpanel shop? Stick to their solution, unless you are
separating mail into its own cluster

I am not much an postfix expert , but from my point of view,

I am not much fond of cpanels not worked much.

But with regard to user's , i would have postfix server (or multiple postfix
server if cluster suite
is used, if so then we need a shared storage, so a SAN with GFS file system
having my /var/spool/postfix, /var/spool/mail on my shared storage and
Directory server for users (FDS) for that matter.

Niranjan

That's fine - but 500 odd domains and assuming the average webhosting
customer 15 to 50 accounts - is peanuts. And the question is especially
relevant because if he is already using cpanel / plesk there is a lot of
work done in provisioning users that needs to be taken into account (and
that will be the hardest part - managing users and ensuring single signon
for all services - webhosting and email, not just configuring postfix and
other stuff on a separate set of servers)

What does pop3 have to do with postfix?

>i don't have Maildir format for my mailboxes , the format is as follow
>vi /home/vmail/usera1@.../cur

cur/new/tmp formats ARE part of a maildir. And the maildir in your case is
/home/vmail/usera1@...

Especially if - as it appears - you're using plesk, cpanel type hosting
software, it should be idiot proof. As long as you dont go and tinker with
the settings yourself and try to fix things that already work correctly..

Please stop ccing so many lists, especially totally unrelated lists that
have no relevance to your problem.. why are you asking about pop3 / imap
server config problems in a postfix group?

Courier doesn't believe in mboxes .. it will do maildir by default

Check that you told postfix to deliver to a maildir not a mbox ..
home_mailbox and other parameters there

Read it again. Or better still read the postfix faq first.

if i change in the /usr/local/courier-imap/etc/pop3d i changed the
MAILDIRPATH back to original

##NAME: MAILDIRPATH:0
#
# MAILDIRPATH - directory name of the maildir directory.

then i telnet 110

i get ----

Configure the maildir paths etc properly. Read the documentation properly

Another howto is at
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PostfixVirtualMailBoxClamSmtpHowto

But if you blindly follow howtos and don't read documentation you will still
be going around in circles.

Here is a message a friend asked me to forward to the list:
----
[COMMERCIAL] Chennai opportunity

For the jobs described below, GNU/Linux is a key minimum requirement.
If you're qualified and strongly interested, please email me your resume
at
        caiqs.jobs@...

If you use a subject line of the following form, it would help to
simplify my life, and would be greatly appreciated :-)

    "ILUGHYD - $(grep ^`whoami`: | tr : \\n | head -5 | tail -1)"

Also, if you're really bright but your academic background does'nt show
it, you could be considered as well. And now please read on:

One of the world's largest financial organisations has constituted a
highly-focussed internal business group which seeks to exploit advanced
technologies in computation, data and finance for the purpose of
out-performing in the global securities marketplace. The group is
envisioned to be small and closely-knit with 2 main centers of
operation, New York and Chennai, along with additional operational
footprint in Europe and Far East.

For the nascent Chennai center, we are seeking smart people with very
strong pragmatic computing skills and a solid engineering/science
academic background.

For computational requirements, candidates would have demonstrable
experience on GNU/Linux, on which platform they would have written
significant Python/Perl code with database interaction, or they would
have coded multithreaded C/C++.

The selected candidates would be extremely hard-working and driven to
excel. They would be able to work well with other (including
geographically remote) team members. All hires will gain expertise in
understanding and manipulating data. They will also be ensuring the
optimal and highly-performant operation of a multitude of interdependent
streams of data manipulation and processing - activities that are
deployed within the group's execution/data centers which are colocated
at the world's major securities trading hubs.

All hires, regardless of background or focus will directly integrate and
report into this global team. Due to the group's points of trading
presence in different time-zones, work at international hours will often
be required. Work will be challenging and individuals will be
encouraged and mentored to grow in related subject areas that will have
long-term benefit to the group.

Compensation will be superior, will recognize individual contributions
and commitment, and will reflect the group's success.

hindi characters in this post appear as unicodeDecimals .. " & # 2 3 5 7" etc
even when encoding set to UTF-8

but in the 'other' copy of the same post the hindi characters look okay..

any pointers about what needs to be done ?

+1, I think he mean to say use any of the keyword in the message part
as a subject line, discarding the top 5 lines and bottom line.

I guess it hung because it is waiting for input for the grep :-)

There is a typo in it. It should be

"ILUGHYD - $(grep ^`whoami`: /etc/passwd| tr : \\n | head -5 | tail -1)"

Expects an output like

ILUGHYD - Thejaswi Puthraya

And for those don't use /etc/passwd (like LDAP users)? Maybe:

$(getent passwd `whoami` | cut -d: -f5)

Binand
