I'll thank everyone here for the replies.

Media-convert.com is a nice site, but I only have POTS.

I'm down loading MEnencoder, and if that doesn't work, I'll try ffmpeg.

<time passes>

Mencoder doesn't seem to include a file encoder.

ffmpeg + gui does encode files, but is not writing a valid avi. Under OS4
MPlayer produces Grim Reaper alerts. Ubuntu does not see the avis at all.

More later.

if/when Cloanto (or other Amiga variant) puts Amiga Forever or other
emulation version on an iPhone or Palm Pre or, more likely?, an Android
phone, will we be able to make meaningful use of Amiga apps like Image
FX on such a tiny screen?

I've seen demos of digital paintings being done on iPhone but they were
done in apps written for the iPhone.

I'd like to think I could really build a little animation on my phone,
but I kinda think it would be tough.

Excellent! Thank You Thank You Thank You!

ImageFX is now running on my SAM without Grim Reapers for the first time!

However, there is one significant problem so far: The "Open" button doesn't
work at all. I can drag files onto the drop icon on Workbench as a
workaround, so the software still functions.

Some other small problems:
1. "JPEG" is listed as a save format twice when saving. If I go into
Modules/Savers there is a "JPEG" file and a "JPEG.000". The first is
version 2.6.33 from 1996, the latter is version 3.1.35 from 1998, but
appears (from the name) to be the 68000 version. I'm not sure if I should
delete one of these, and which one it should be.
2. No icon was created for the ImageFX drawer.
3. I didn't elect to install the PNG icons, so I selected only to install
the anim brushes from the extras the first time around. I ran the
installer again and chose to install "extras", and went through all the
remaining selections except the PNG icons. Then I tried to Exit and it
wouldn't. It just keeps bringing the same selection up again over and
over. I had to select the console window and type CTRL-D and then hit
"exit" and then it stopped.

One other thing I noticed about this new install versus my previous attempts
is that there are fewer screen modes to choose from when it initially runs.
This might actually be a good thing because there's really only one or two
that I'll ever choose, and those are both on the list. :-) (I don't
remember exactly, but I think my old install listed the "fake native"
modes, and this install doesn't.)

Anyway, THANK YOU!

Kind regards,

This OS4 installer is hosted on OS4 depot, I noticed. Perhaps it would also be
helpful to put in in the files are of this Yahoo Group.

Good day Hrothgar,

Thanks for catching some problems. I'd like to know more about the "Open"
problem as the button works fine on my own system. Does the button not work at
all (as you have described)? Are you trying to open a specific thing? What are
your requester preferences (IFX thumbnail, ASL)? If ASL works, but the IFX
thumbnail requester does not, check your "libs" drawer for the thumbnail
library.

I'll adjust the install script to deal with the double JPEG savers. I guess
doing LHA d...(FP|00|30|40|60), RENAME...(FP|00|30|40|60), and
DELETE...(FP|00|30|40|60) does not catch everything.

I have been told about the drawer icon. I have been toying with providing a
custom icon for the drawer. I will stop fiddling and put a regular drawer icon
in the archive for installation.

My LAB SKIP looping must be "loopy" to have caused you such trouble. I did not
make a complex loop with error catching methods to speed the installer to the
public. I will have a look at the loop.

I have FakeNativeModes selected. My IFX only displays four or five modes from
which to choose. It is also a limitation I can live with considering my IFX was
not working at all before I made the install script. It may be an issue with
the Windowed CyberGraphics, or Windowed module. Again, play with some prefs.

Again, thanks for catching some problems,

-Royce

That was it! The preferences were set to "Thumbnail". ("When Loading Use:
Thumbnail")

The files dctv.library and thumbnail.library were found inside directory
Sys:Libs/Libs, not in Sys:Libs. It looks like Libs.lha includes the path,
and then it is extracted to Libs:, preserving the path.

I'll do that, but it seems to be where I want it for now. :-) Thank you

Yowza, yet another thing to be fixed for the next version 8^) I had been using
"LHA x" to extract with directories in most cases. I guess in the case of the
LIBS, its not necessary.

Good day,

I have been wanting to create the effect of light shining through a stained
glass window or even shining through a regular window (without resorting to
purchasing a 3D modeling program). I have seen tutorials for Photoshop on how
to create light shining from a window onto a wall, but not shining through the
window itself. Using ImageFX, how would I create the effect of light shining
through the window itself?

Been away from Amiga use tooooo long and consequently have SEVERE memory holes

What I would like to do is to use PaintFX to run thru a Drawer of brushes and
paint them on a picture. I know it can paint a SINGLE brush down all over, but
is there a method to select a batch of brushes?

basically make a LAYER for each color of "light".

make the shape of the 'light' in the alpha channel.

monkey with the blend modes (try ADD) and the percentage to get the effect that
looks the best.

and blur the alpha channel - yup, I do mean guassian!

Hi all

I know several of you run our beloved ImageFX in "emulation" environments.

I have been using it on an Amithlon box for a few years now but recently have
become concerned that I might be headed for problems and am trying to set up
an alternative.

I have installed Amikit (on a windoze box) which installs WinUAE and a "you
beaut" AmigaOS environment.

I am able to get ImageFX running OK but it's the screenmode that's my problem.
Other applications I can get to run at 1680 x 1050 (that's selecting
UAE:1680x1050 32bit BGRA in the dropdown menu) but with ImageFX the best I can
get is 1600 x 900. I have set in MUI prefs ImageFX to run on its own public
screen with the aforementioned display mode.

In ImageFX prefs I have under Modules > Preview > WindowedCGX
Modules > Render > CyberGraphX
Settings > Preview Options > Open Screen? checked and selecting from the menu
window that appears after clicking on "Select Custom Screen Mode And Depth"
the best on offer is as stated 1600 x 900 32 bit BGRA

Any help to get ImageFX running at 1680 x 1050 would be appreciated.

Ken

Excuse my senior moment, MUI, is that Magical User Interface? Is it in
WBstartup?

Trying to remember, but is that not for desktop only? If so, maybe removing
Magic at startup, would allow what you need. Hope you have a nice big
monitor to use this resolution.

If always removed Magic from startup, until in IFX and wanting to work on a
Magic.PIC, then startup Magic within IFX.

HTH.... I still use the Original AmigaForever, with WinUAE configuration

Hi Kilo ... I suspect there's more than a few of us on this list who are
subject to those senior moments (I'll be 65 next month)

Anyway MUI is MagicUserInterface by Stefan Stuntz but I'm not sure where it
fits into the system.

> Trying to remember, but is that not for desktop only? If so, maybe removing

I think Magic is something else. I do remember not installing it during the
process of installing ImageFX. I think I recall it asking if you wanted to
install it and I said no. I can't really remember what it was for now ... been
too long.
Anyway you got me thinking ... ImageFX doesn't need a MUI screen, it doesn't
hook into that system.

However in the screen modes which appear in the list in ImageFX > Prefs >
Settings > Preview Options .. the last in the list is
UAE:1600x900 32bit BGRA (depth 8)

whereas in other applications and even in Workbench > Screenmode there are
three more modes
UAE:1680x1050 8bit or 16bit PC or 32bit BGRA

Maybe there's a limit as to how many entries can show.

Thanks for responding. All suggestions are welcome.

OK, though I use imfx frequently, there's one thing I ain't done in ages
and I seem to have forgotten how.

That "rename one for sequence.ifx" script? Used to use it to take a
single frame and clone it however many times I needed it.

Thought I could use autoFX and just add it as a command--but somehow I
can't get it to work. I give it the basename of the frame I want to
make copies of and tell it how many copies I need--and when I click OK
something does seem to happen but then there are no frames anywhere.
Shouldn't it prompt me for a location to save the replicated frames? It
doesn't, so I just assume it's gonna create them in the same folder
where the original frame lies--but it doesn't.

What am I missing?

Thanx y'all for the width,
m

Lost me. What is "reSaveAs?" (Don't see that in any of my .ifx
scripts, neither in the open rexx directory nor in autoFX).

Perhaps it's some amigaForever thing, which case I wouldn't have it as
all I've ever used to emulate ImageFX is winUAE.

Not sure if we're reading each other loud and clear.

What I need to do is take a single bitmap frame, let's say kilo0001, and
create 320 frames just like it. RenameOneForSequence.ifx used to do
this for me--and would save them with sequential names, kilo0001-kilo0320.

Perhaps it's the naming of that rexx script that's confusing you? The
fact that it has the word "rename" in it is misleading, since it doesn't
rename anything; it clones a single given frame a given number of times
and saves them sequentially.

(Bogus Blaupunkt used to do this all the time in his ImageFX tutorial vids).

LOL, utoh! You could still use LayerManager, but need to clone 320 times!
AutoFX should do this, but I no longer have a manual.

I haven't ever used this for myself but you got me curious. I do use the
hook/autofx function for other things though so try this

Start ImageFX, select "hook", choose "autofx"
then in the popup window: left side select your image file (navigate to) and
click "add" in the centre column, then under operations .. add command and
choose the script "renameoneforsequence" (load.ifx should already be there)
then hit begin and follow the prompts ... to set basename and destination etc

How does that work for you??

Yeah that's exactly how I've been trying to invoke it so perhaps this
speaks to an underlying squirreliness with imageFX running in
emulation: sometimes it works fine, sometimes it's buggy.

Like, I can get autoFX to work in imageFX2, but it crashes in 4.1. Weird.

Tried running winUAE from a new install on another hard drive and I got
RenameOneForSequence.ifx to work like it's s'posed to. Go figure.

Thanx Ken for helping me with this.

Best,
m
