December data

Hi Enrico,

thanks for your December data. On December 7 you made a minor mistake: You
restarted the camera during the observation, which created a new logfile.
Later you postprocessed only the first logfile, so the meteors from the
second part got lost (at least in the logfile). They were only left in the
PosDat file.

In case you have to restart an observation, please, use the following
procedure next time:

1.) start the first observation
2.) quit the first observation
3.) delete the PosDat header file (to prevent two entries from one night)
4.) start the second observation
5.) quit the second observation
6.) copy the logfile from the data directory into your working directory.
Whereas in the working directory the logfile is either overwritten or
renamed (then you have two logfiles yyyymmdd.000 and yyyymmdd.log), the data
are appended in the data directory logfile.
7.) edit the logfile: copy the start time from the first observation to the
end of the second observation and add the effective observing time of the
first observation to the second. Then, delete everything between
hh:mm:ss End of recognition request!
from the first observation and
hh:mm:ss Start recognition
from the second observation. Insert two lines
hh:mm:ss Suspend recognition
hh:mm:ss Restart recognition
instead.
8.) postprocess the logfile as usual - the meteor statistics at the end of
the logfile will be corrected automatically
9.) delete yyyymmdd.000 (if it exists) and copy the postprocessed files as
usual into the data directory

It sounds a bit difficult, but it's quite a simple procedure once you have
done it once.

Best wishes,
Sirko

PS: As we have a number of new observers in the network, I post this message
also to the mailing list, because it will be of interest to the other
observers, too.
