Can you help translate "IMUG"?   Message List
Reply | Forward Message #103 of 211 |
IMUG needs your help. Can you offer a quick answer to the following
question? We think you'll have some fun with this. We are currently
redesigning the IMUG Web site, and plan to show the name of our group
in multiple languages, as is only fitting for one of the first forums
for multilingual and multiscript computing.

What is "International Macintosh Users Group" in the other language(s)
you know? Do existing groups in other countries have a colloquial
usage that is different from a direct translation? For example, most
Chinese MUGs call themselves "Apple User Group" in Chinese, not
"Macintosh User Group", while still translating their names as "MUG"
in English. What about French, German, Spanish, Hindi, Japanese,
Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, and all the rest?

If you can help, please reply to roger.sherman@... with
translation(s), plus any necessary instructions on encoding and
recommended fonts as needed. We cannot promise to include all
languages submitted at the top of the home page, but we _will_ list
every submission somewhere on the site with due respect for the value
of all the world's languages (and all the world's computing platforms,
of course).

We just held our 15th anniversary meeting! Hard to believe, isn't it?
Not if you look at the age of our Web site. What can we say? We've
all been busy. But, with your help, we will soon launch an updated
site worthy of our talented, multifaceted, multilingual membership.
Again, if you can help, please reply with translation(s), plus any
font recommendations and encoding instructions necessary.

Sincerely,
Roger Sherman
on behalf of IMUG
