Apple's Unix-based operating system, Mac OS X, was architected to
have great international support; one example is the choice of
Unicode as the native character set. The latest version of Mac OS X,
Panther, features many improvements in this area, including improved
support for existing languages, support for new languages, better
input methods, and more locale data, among others. Come find out
about the latest international news from Apple!

Deborah Goldsmith has worked at Apple since 1986 on object-oriented
application frameworks and operating systems, the Mac toolbox, and
international support, and has 13 United States patents. She is
currently manager of the Font group inside the International & Text
department at Apple, and is Apple's liaison to the Unicode Consortium
and the Unicode Technical Committee.

Lee Collins has been working in the area of software
internationalization since before it had a name. He started at Xerox
in the early 80s and has been at Apple off and on since 1988, with
side trips to Taligent and Ariba. He is one of the co-founders of
Unicode. His current position at Apple is manager of OS Engineering
Asia.
