Description

Welcome!

This group is for the discussion of information and process modeling using semantic or fact-based languages, including ORM2 (Object Role Modeling), the Constellation Query Language, FCO-IM and their precursor, NIAM. Discussion covers modeling theory, software tools, and applications of the information models, such as requirements analysis, database design, data warehousing, end-user query, and business process management.

Information modelers should also subscribe to the ORM Foundation to use the resources there.

Existing free tools include Microsoft's (now redundant) InfoModeler, the open-source ActiveFacts implementation of CQL (the Constellation Query Language), and NORMA, a free ORM2 plugin for Visual Studio (pro, not Express). All three tools are capable of automatically producing high-quality normalized relational database designs from your semantic models.

You can also read and post to this group via USENET (NNTP) newsreaders through the Gmane.org gateway - add news.gmane.org as a news server and subscribe to gmane.comp.programming.modeling.information. You'll need to verify your email address before posting.

Anyone may join the list, but to avoid spam, your first posting must be approved by a moderator. After you have been approved, you have free access to post messages. Links and calendar entries may only be published by moderators (email the owners), but any member may post relevant files or diagrams - consider creating a folder to help keep things organized. Spammers and vexatious folk will be mercilessly expelled - keep it polite, please.

Re: ORM Metamodel
What about using "GeneralConcept" instead of "Concept" for better matching with SBVR? It could also be used "FactTypeForm" instead of "Reading". I prefer to

Re: ORM Metamodel
... For a concept to have "the same meaning", it must play exactly the same set of roles. Please re-read my definition of "meaning" from my previous message.

Re: ORM Metamodel
Thanks Clifford, Therefore, the word "Concept" has the same meaning as ORM2 ObjectType, and it doesn't denote the same thing as SBVR "Concept" term at all. I
