Hi All,

I want to build a simple robotic crane with 3 stepper motors. one each for
lifting, swiveling, and moving. I basically dont have much idea as to what
control hardware to use. I have just done a crane with 3 simple motors and
electrical switch circuit. I want to implement the same using digital logic
and programming.
Could you pls suggest the muP I could use to achive the same and he
associated hardware and software code/build/flash tools?
Would a PIC16F84 suffice the requirement? pls advice.

Thanks & Regards,
-Rajesh TN

The DOS program is executing software interrupt to exit out but GUI does not
recognize it, DOS is gone but the window is hanging around. I wonder if CTL+C
works.

Subject: [interfacing] PortTalk and DOS App Exiting

I was trying to figure out how to get an ancient DOS-based app (AGTEK
EDGE) to read a hardware dongle on the printer port (iButton.com), to
no avail. Then I eventually stumbled upon PortTalk and - surprise
surprise, it worked like a charm! :)

I only have one followup question and I'm hopeful someone might have
run into this already and it's an easy fix.

If I use allowio in the PIF (and only allow LPT1) the app works fine.

However, _after_ quitting the app, instead of the window closing
automatically (again, set in the PIF) I get a blank screen and can
move the mouse around with a block cursor.

I have to give the ol' three fingered salute to get back to Task
Manager, the desktop and then force quit the app. No fun. :)

Anyone run into this before? Clues welcome!

- Joe

There used to be a 'close window on exit' option, but it appears to have
gone away with W2K/XP. Might want to do a litle research on that one.

Hi,

I encounter a problem with Trust-No-exe 3.0.4 with a program using
FrameWork Net 2.0 with Windows 2000 Server.

Sometimes, when I launch the program, Windows reboot automatically (blue
screen).

If I stop trust-no-exe, the program works correctly.

The analysis of the Memory.dmp file indicates that the problem comes
from bltrust.sys.

Is trust-No-exe incompatible with the applications generated with
FrameWork DotNet 2.0?

Or is it a bug of trust-No-exe?

Thanks !

Hi Tony,

I had a quick look at both specs, and it seems to me that it would be
slightly more complex than making a cable. Most signals are pretty
obvious, as you probably figured out, but it seems to me the biggest
issue would be with color management. The camera does this by requiring
that you digitize three times, one for each (rgb) color. The frame
grabber doesn't seem to have such a feature by default, althought there
are general purpose I/Os that probably could be used for such a purpose.
Note that they are TTL levels and the camera needs LVDS (low voltage and
differential) so this would probably need some electronics to convert.
This would also involve appropriate support on the sofware side also.

Hope this helps a bit,

Cheers

Christophe Mariac.

We are replacing our old lab PC. There is an RS232 connection between
the lab PC and our target computer that is intermittent.
Most of the time the connection doesn't work. Connection using the
old lab PC works fine. The replacement lab PC as well as the old lab
PCs run Win98. The connection is through Com1. We put a diagnostic
tool (an array of LEDs that shows bus activity) on the bus. When
using the new PC we see that two data packets were sent (TX LED blinks
twice) however transmission dies after that. There are no loose pins
or loose wiring. (I've used Hyper Terminal and have seen the same
results. Only transmits sucessfully when it wants to). Do I need to
put a scope on the lines and measure waveform voltage? Perhaps its
marginal?

it was called:

in the example above (dutch), it seems that the dongle is recogniced
but stil no comm.

I would appreciate suggestions or clues to control doorbell (24V AC

class of triac or solid-state relay (SSR) directed at this
application, or is it best left to electromechanical relays?

The answer is actually in your own question! Stripping
off the 0x part of the C means that the data
are no longer three hex characters, but six text
characters.

You could just use the WriteFile on hexbuff[] to start
with, and forget about the sprintf(), or if,
for some reason you have to use sprintf(), then
try something like

sprintf(buffer, "%c%c%c", hexbuff[0], hexbuff[1],
hexbuff[2]);

Hello,

I am sure this has been covered, but I am unable to find it:

I wish to send a hex byte to the serial port and have it show up in
hex on the other end.

For example, I create the following:

char hexbuff[] = {0xFF 0x4A 0x17};
then I use a sprintf to save it to a buffer ( stripping off all of the
0x portions)

but when I use WriteFile to push it out the serial port, the receiving
terminal gets the ascii equiv of the buffer. So the receiving device
sees soemthing like "46 46 34 41 31 37" (the ascii equiv).

What I WANT it to see is the "FF 4A 17". Can anyone shed some light
on this?

Thank you,
-Ben

Hi Tony

   send me the manuals.
I think it must be easy to find out the correct connection.

I have an Amtel (French) CCD camera and a DATA Translation DT3157
frame grabber PCI board. The problem I have is that I can not get a
ready made cable to connect them. Atmel says talk to DT and DT says
we can not tell you what pin connects to what pin BUT they can make
me one for about $900.

I have the manuals and pin out lists for both the camera and the card
but with my VERY limited knowledge of these things have only managed
to work out a few of the more obvious connections like data, ground
and power.

What I need is someone to be able to work out a pin x to pin x type
list so I can then make up the cable.

Any help would earn my unending gratitude as I have been trying for
months to get this information.

Hi Tony,

If you send me both documentations, I'll have a look at them.

Hi;
Well you can use MATLAB to use your sound card as Analog data logger. But it's
bandwidth is not so much.

According to my knowlage you can not measure DC levels with mic or line in ports
because there are ac bypass caps at the inputs.

Hi! I know alot of you shop online. just a heads up when shopping
online. shop from a trusted site or from a site that is recommended by
people.

I have a friend he ordered a notebook for use in college and when he
got the unit a wrong model was shipped but he was offered a few
dollars back to pay for the inconvinience it did to him, and later
the correct one was shipped. At least the online store admitted their
mistake. And another friend of mine brought an ipod and he got
confused with the options, he ordered a used one, he thought he just
got a big big savings but it was a refurbished one that he got.

So when I brought my macbook pro last week he gave me this site.
http://www.macpromos.com. <http://www.macpromos.com./> He said that
it's ok to buy from them as
they are directly connected with Apple. So I ordered and receive my
macbook pro the other day... well to be honest it was a bit pricy for
me but atleast i'm enjoying it. so far so good. If you plan to get a
mac, you can browse through http://www.macpromos.com.
<http://www.macpromos.com./> when you click
on the product you'll be guided to apples site. alot of great deals
are also posted and they have apple protection plan so dont worry.

Greetings. Newbie here.

I've a project in mind that would be sending a max of 200 pulses per
second to the ACK pin on a parallel port, IRQ enabled on ACK. I want
to accmumulate the interrupt count, to be read/logged/reset by another
process (via and IPC message buffer). Is 200 interrupts/sec going to
render the computer (Pentium-3 laptop) useless for other tasks?

Agree with that, but if you need to go audio you must modulate, get a
VCO (voltage controlled oscilator) to get into a tone you can hear. Of
course this means recovering and processing data is going to be a pain.
What about USB? Initially a little harder but its going to have a lot
better resolution. Actually you can use a fixed tone and do amplitude
modulation, still going to loose some resolution. Maybe both FM and AM
but then you will have to calibrate for different response on different
sound cards.

Plenty of ccts for PIC chips doing A/D and serial around (or USB) some
parralel ports (esp. laptops) can have very weak pull ups, sit at
different addresses etc.
