Some have installed the Microsoft Office System Beta 2 Kit 2003 on
seperate machines, since that was not an option due to space
limitations and budget concerns; I used Plan B.
Plan B was related to me by a compter tech at the computer store,
Omega1 Computers in Silverdale, Washington. The idea was to have a
removable harddrive, and then setup a blank 40gig to fit into that
same space. I now had a blank hard drive, in a good computer (I had
256mb of ram added when they put in the removable drive setup). When
done with Beta testing I shutdown, remove the 40 with the BETA KIT
and replace it with my Win98SE drive, and boot up no problem.
When I ordered the BETA KIT (see above for the long name) from the
Microsoft site at http://www.microsoft.com/office/preview/default.asp
the recommendation was that I also get a copy of XP Professional too,
that made sense at the time so I checked that box and got it too. The
I talked to another friend and commented that since the package came
with Windows Server 2003 RC2 (not a beta) I should install that
instead.
Setup the computer to boot from CD, put the CD for Windows Server
2003 in and follow the prompts, don't start it and walk away (you'll
come back to a prompt with a question waiting for you) My system is
on a hub on a LAN, can't help you with dialup connections, didn't do
that.
If that's what you did too, keep reading since we'll be on the
same "page"
Because I got the package to preview Frontpage 2003 that was the
second CD I installed, FULL install (on all of the software Betas) I
installed. Be sure to pay attention to the CD Keys in the Sofware
Packet.
Next I installed Office 2003 FULL, then Publisher 2003, the Outlook
with Business Contacts (Outlook 2003 was installed in the Office 2003
install, this has extras for managing contacts) I will pause here,
and add more later.
PS I copied this from the post I did at DevelopingWebs.net message
board in the section for Frontpage 2003 that just started there.
