Hello

We have installed the Discussion Thread component and I am having a
problem with it and the Subscription notification.

I have a subscription set to notify me when a Discussion has been
started or updated.

When I receive the subscription email and I click ont the link to
the document I get the following error.

Content Server Request Failed
Unable to retrieve file. The relative URL does not start with the
prefix /VStellent/.

The redirect URL it uses is http://vstellent/vstellent/..../doc.hscp
If I change in manually to http://vstelletn/VStellent/.../doc.hscp
It works fine. I don't have to do this with any other subscriptions,
only with the Discussion Thread items.

Any clue why? or what I need to do to fix this.

I'm not sure Dhruba - i will also need to provide a searchable expired documents
feature. If I cannot learn how to achieve this with Verity/Stellent then I will
end up going direct to the database table Revisions and getting them myself!

Just a suggestion but if you have a need to search for expired
documents on a regular basis then you should redesign your
architecture to use a different metadata field to remove a document
from general availability on a web site but still leave it available
for searching. This is a lot simpler and avoids unintended issues.

Hi ADC
even then (i.e getting dIDs of Expired docs from revision table)..how do
we get more details about them ??

I mean I tried a Search like "dID= <ID of a Expired doc> "...but didn't
get any result...

David's workaround also seems nice..just that I am getting too emotional
with the fact that "WHY IS STELLENT NOT PROVIDING SUCH A FEATURE" !!!

If you went to the database you could get a lot of info with the query..

SELECT *
FROM Revisions r, DocMeta m, Documents d
WHERE (r.dStatus = 'EXPIRED') and r.dID = m.dID and r.dID = d.dID and r.dID =
1234

This gets back pretty much everything I think you would need. Check out the 3
tables above to see the columns you would get.

I do agree that this is not great to have to do though, but nevertheless an
alternative.

You won't get anything in search results just by using the dID of an expired doc
as the expired docs I don't think are indexed anymore.

Allistair is correct, you couldn't get it because it's not there!

To Stellent this is probably not a viable "feature" as to leave it
would result in a performance degradation over time. And more
importantly most customers do not want a search to return old
information, lawsuits are built on that. Plus it's easy to design an
intentional workaround depending on your requirements.

So you have to resort to using the database, and then hoping that
the sysadmin has not set up an archiving policy that removes all
expired documents from the collection, which is a common realworld
requirement at many companies.

So again the best solution may be to not expire but retire.
Alternately if you have a multitiered architecture then you can
expire at the Consumption level but leave available at the
Contribution level. Many other options can be designed including
pushing expired documents out to a LMC collection that is
labeled "expired" so you can still full text search it but not
mingle it with current content.

Version 7 will give you more options in doing a database only search
in Stellent which should be explored.

Guys, in 7.x, there is an option under the Content manager link to search on
Expired content.
I don't know what that provides for jsp stuff, but it is there for people that
can access Content Manager.

Version 7 will give you more options in doing a database only search

Subject: displaying RSS content using Stellent Site Builder
quartetter
Send Email Send Email

We've been giving some thought to incorporating RSS news feeds into our
Stellent-powered site (Content Server 6.2 / Stellent Site Builder 6.2 /
Windows 2000 running IIS ).

Two approaches would be to either:

1) Run a separate news aggregator on the box, output to HTML and then
include that output dynamically in an HCST page.

Advantage: use existing applications that locate, sort, display etc. the
feeds, and easily add feeds.

Disadvantage: One more app to maintain...?

--or--

2) Develop a Site Builder template to parse the XML.

Advantage: You could presumably use Publisher layouts, promotion
schemes, etc. to reuse content in a publication

Disadvantages: need to republish frequently. Need to publish custom
template required for each feed? (Wait... Could you use patterns to pick
up only the tags you want, and ignore everything that's not one of the
patterns? Hmmmmmm....)

Any experience here?

Try the 'GET_EXPIRED' service.

If your version of Stellent is too old, try installing the
'NotificationOfExpiration' component from your 'extras' directory.

I have the following query:

xHidden <Substring> `false` <AND> xCollectionID >= `643` <AND>
xCollectionID <= `643` <AND> xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent(-90)$>'

This query has been working fine until we switched from 2003 to 2004
year.

A sample <$dateCurrent(-90)$> gives: 10/7/03 10:46 AM

Does anyone have any ideas why this doesn't work anymore?

Thanks,

Yes, please examine the query closer. The query is supposed to show any articles
with a date greater than 10/7/03 10:46 AM. (90 days ago) There are several in
December and November that should be returning that aren't.

Thanks.

Not an answer but ... have you tried all possibilities with the various
conditions that make up the whole. That is, replace the condition with smaller
chunks to see which part exactly is failing. You include some stuff with
xCollectionID for example - have you tested that this is not the problem.

Have you tried the following condition on its own?

xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent(-90)$>'

Yes, I have tried just as you suggested. The only way it will work now, it to
remove the xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent(-90)$>'. Then it works.

Yes, please examine the query closer. The query is supposed to show any articles
with a date greater than 10/7/03 10:46 AM. (90 days ago) There are several in
December and November that should be returning that aren't.

Thanks.

that IS 90 days ago... 10/7/03 means October 7 (not July 10th) 2003 in

If you want to use a different date format, that's a seperate issue.

PS. I think it's a bug with the dateCurrent function because if I manually
change the server's date/time back to something like December 7, 2003 the query
begins working again.

change the server's date/time back to something like December 7, 2003 the query
begins working again.

Yes, I have tried just as you suggested. The only way it will work now, it to
remove the xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent(-90)$>'. Then it works.

Yes, please examine the query closer. The query is supposed to show any articles
with a date greater than 10/7/03 10:46 AM. (90 days ago) There are several in
December and November that should be returning that aren't.

Thanks.

that IS 90 days ago... 10/7/03 means October 7 (not July 10th) 2003 in

If you want to use a different date format, that's a seperate issue.

Well, strangely enough, I was just doing a test. I changed one of our articles
to have a xPressDate of 01/04/04 12:00AM. Just so that I know we'd have at least
one article for this new year. Even doing this, did not change the outcome.
Still this article doesn't return.

does xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent(-90)$>' capture nothing at all? Have you got
content put in for 2004? Does it fail in that case with

xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent$>'

PS. I think it's a bug with the dateCurrent function because if I manually
change the server's date/time back to something like December 7, 2003 the query
begins working again.

Not an answer but ... have you tried all possibilities with the various
conditions that make up the whole. That is, replace the condition with smaller
chunks to see which part exactly is failing. You include some stuff with
xCollectionID for example - have you tested that this is not the problem.

Hi everybody,

Every now and then I need to use HTML/JSP as a source document instead
of the usual Word docs. Problem is, during the translation stage,
<html> and <body> tags aren't stripped from the code so I end up with
all the code from my custom layout as I would expect along with
redundant <html> and <body> tags, and usually any <script> items I have
in the <head> of the source HTML get stripped and never put into the
<head> of the layout. I usually have to resort to placing <script>s in
the body, even though I know they shouldn't really go there. And, the
biggest pain in the butt, is that the onLoad events for the <body> tag
end up being placed as content in the translated page, not in the <body>
tag where they belong.

Does anyone have any best practices for dealing with HTML source docs
they'd like to share? I've done just about everything I can do to keep
my code clean, but it usually gets mangled during the translation and I
end up with some pretty rough code. Not a lot to go on in any of the
developer docs.

Thanks and best regards,
Chris

Well, strangely enough, I was just doing a test. I changed one of our articles
to have a xPressDate of 01/04/04 12:00AM. Just so that I know we'd have at least
one article for this new year. Even doing this, did not change the outcome.
Still this article doesn't return.

I changed one of the documents to have a date of 01/05/04. Then changed my query
to be <$dateCurrent(-3)$> so that it doesn't go back into the 2003 year.

It works that way. This has got to be a bug with the function

Thanks for your help.

Not sure if it is the function. You will only know if you try substituting a
2003 date as a string into the single quotes rather than using the dateCurrent
function. I think you already said that dateCurrent(-90) does return the right
value and I have tried it here and it works. Try

xPressDate > '10/7/03 10:46'

If this does not work then it is not the function probably but rather something
to do with the comparison?

I changed one of the documents to have a date of 01/05/04. Then changed my query
to be (as current list) so that it doesn't go back into the 2003 year.

It works that way. This has got to be a bug with the function

Thanks for your help.

but have you tried

xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent$>'

have you tried substituting a date string into the single quotes rather than
using dateCurrent to confirm it is a dateCurrent problem?

xPressDate > '01/04/04 12:00'

Well, strangely enough, I was just doing a test. I changed one of our articles
to have a xPressDate of 01/04/04 12:00AM. Just so that I know we'd have at least
one article for this new year. Even doing this, did not change the outcome.
Still this article doesn't return.

does xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent(-90)$>' capture nothing at all? Have you got
content put in for 2004? Does it fail in that case with

xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent$>'

xPressDate is a custom field set as type "Date".

is xPressDate a date column or a string column?

10/30/03 12:00 AM
11/10/03 12:00 AM

PS. I think it's a bug with the dateCurrent function because if I manually
change the server's date/time back to something like December 7, 2003 the query
begins working again.

Yes, I have tried just as you suggested. The only way it will work now, it to
remove the xPressDate > '<$dateCurrent(-90)$>'. Then it works.

Yes, please examine the query closer. The query is supposed to show any articles
with a date greater than 10/7/03 10:46 AM. (90 days ago) There are several in
December and November that should be returning that aren't.

Thanks.

that IS 90 days ago... 10/7/03 means October 7 (not July 10th) 2003 in
the default date format.

If you want to use a different date format, that's a seperate issue.

#5262 From: "Christopher Owens" <ChristopherOwens@...>

Subject: JSPs and redirects
chris_in_mad...
Send Email Send Email

Hello all,

As long as I'm on a development kick today, I thought I'd complement my
previous question with another about redirects in JSPs. I usually
develop JSPs on my Tomcat development box and things go pretty well.
However, the functions I seem to have the most trouble with is when I
need to do redirects.

For example, after I send an email with a JSP, I need to redirect to
another page. Using response.sendRedirect always returns a nullPointer
error of some sort on SCS, but doesn't on my development machine. So I
thought I'd try <jsp:forward>. Well, it would appear that I can only
forward to another JSP, which works fine. But if I try to forward to an
HCSP, then I get a Tomcat error that says the page can't be found (which
kinda makes sense since it's not on the Java server). So how do you get
around these issues? I've used client-side redirects with JavaScript
which works, but that's not ideal... just a hokey workaround.

Any thoughts?

Best regards,
Chris

Ok. Just tried it that way, by putting in '10/7/03 10:46' as the actual date.
Unfortunately it still doesn't work.

Thanks again.

Yes, please examine the query closer. The query is supposed to show any articles
with a date greater than 10/7/03 10:46 AM. (90 days ago) There are several in
December and November that should be returning that aren't.

Thanks.

that IS 90 days ago... 10/7/03 means October 7 (not July 10th) 2003 in
the default date format.

If you want to use a different date format, that's a seperate issue.

I addressed this issue recently on here for someone else as I ran into something
similar. It has to do with the Verity search engine's use of date strings in
the query. Passing in a 2-digit month is causing Verity to assume the year is
the first two digits of your date, while a 1-digit month is obviously a month.
That's why the query worked up until 90 days back was in October - a 2-digit
month.

You need to force the year to be 4 digits by calling one of the date formatting
routines as you build the query string. Here's how I would change your code
using the formatDateOnlyFull function I'm using in my query:

xHidden <Substring> `false` <AND> xCollectionID >= `643` <AND>
xCollectionID <= `643` <AND> xPressDate > '<$
formatDateOnlyFull(dateCurrent(-90))$>'

Ok. Just tried it that way, by putting in '10/7/03 10:46' as the actual date.
Unfortunately it still doesn't work.

   Thanks again.

If this does not work then it is not the function probably but rather
something to do with the comparison?

It works that way. This has got to be a bug with the function

Well, strangely enough, I was just doing a test. I changed one of our articles
to have a xPressDate of 01/04/04 12:00AM. Just so that I know we'd have at least
one article for this new year. Even doing this, did not change the outcome.
Still this article doesn't return.

OK... the problem lies in the fundamental fact that Stellent supports
more date formats than Verity does...

if you use single quotes (') around a date, it will be passed DIRECTLY
to Verity

However, if you use back-tics around a date (`), Stellent will parse it
first, and then send a value to Verity that we know it will understand.

Generally, its always advisable to use back-tics... out JavaScript code
does exactly this to build up query strings on the Search page.

hope this helps...
