Any chance you are in a position to take on an
internship? There may be very little pay, so you delay
the large salary. But you do get started. AND it is a
way to justify working for such a small salary that
some employer will not be able to day no. Just decide
ahead that this will be limited to 6 or 12 months,
whatever. It is a legitimate way to get experience and
get your feet wet -- and a foot in the door.
Look carefully at all of the considerations of
internships. Discuss it with an adviser. Yes, you may
need to find a way to extend your student status.
Perhaps the university will even cooperate; allowing
you to teach while you study with discounted tuition
etc.
